driving in Kelowna gotta be worse than TOR - drexel
That's a bold claim because driving in Toronto is just horrific most of the time. I hate it so much.....

I really don't care about results anymore, bring on the playoffs this is getting boring.

Maybe they mean long term as in play another year or 2, then transition into a role with the organization a la Spezza or some type of a coaching gig? - Cush29
When Pronger played in Edmonton even his furniture was rented. |

He (allegedly his wife) couldn't get out of Edmonton fast enough with his one season there but oddly enough this article says they bought a place. Kind of reads like he was of the impression they were staying there for awhile but that sure didn't happen.
https://edmontonjournal.c...-going-to-accept-edmonton
From the article:
In Edmonton, the Prongers bought a 2,000-square-foot house in one of the city’s far-flung southwest suburbs, but it’s not clear if Lauren ever spent much time there. By January 2006, things were falling apart and Pronger’s agent, Pat Morris, communicated to Lowe that there was trouble brewing.

Don't you poop on my parade Dozzer!
And just to be argumentative a pro hockey player doesn't GAS about rental prices, the pain in the ass combined with "capital gains" costs they would pay to buy a home and then sell it a year later makes me believe he bought to stay.
Hell when JVR was a Leaf for some time (dunno' maybe the whole time?) he lived at the Royal York hotel in one of the long term suites they have. I only know this because I ran into him in the lobby when I was waiting for a meeting and asked someone I knew who worked at the hotel why the hell JVR was there at 2pm on a weekday. I actually insinuated it was a booty call but was corrected. lol - Cush29
The capital gain thing flips a tad when he has the money to buy it outright in the bank, maybe he had to shift a little over from his savings to his chequing account so his debit card tap would work just dandy but hey *shrugs*
Remember that Schenn isn’t from Toronto, he’s from Saskatoon, pretty safe bet that the GTA will not be his retirement preference lol
Safe bet is who grants him the best offer will be who lands him. He’s got a couple years left so the question will it be closer to home or for a competitor. We shall see I guess. |

Considering Toronto has a land transfer tax which is graduated but goes to 2.5% for all purchases above $2M, the hit alone on a house in Kaberle's neighbourhood is going to be in the $80K to $100k range (edit - could be much, much higher, depending on what he bought. But let's assume a $5M minimum).
It would make no financial sense to buy a house if your intention was to live there for four months.

Maybe he just bought it knowing full well he could rent it to rentals for the next few decades? |

I wonder why he would rent furniture. The rental company burned it in a huge bonfire. |

Yeah this.
The appeal of having work post retirement is nice too, Luke is a big community guy here.
Lets be real, Schenn only has a good 2-3 years left in this league unless he wants to play for the Marlies. |
