OK I was not paying enough attention. But did Marner not have time to get off the ice 1 min into that penalty kill when the Leafs cleared the puck all the way down.

Almost seems to me he wanted to stay out because of the empty net.

Not the smartest move by Willie in OT, but Tavares taking the man out on the boards in the neutral zone and turing the 3-2 into a 2-1 was kind (frank)ing dumb

Lol no, because as much attention as the leafs get they also get equal criticism.

There is no chance matthews wins the selke. Marner has a better chance than him because he plays pk. All leaf fans know that Matthews is a defensive stud and is the better player.

Well that’s how players win the Selke. The PK isn’t an easy task.

Brutal game by marner, even with the assist. Lots of juicy turnovers and a weak attempt to get the puck out leading to the Gio penalty. His situational awareness continues to bite this team.

Matthews can play pk.

Marner is shiftier and is less likely to get injured. Matthews uses more of the body and gets in the lanes and blocks shots.

He also scores a lot.

I was in the same boat, and wondering the same thing. Talking heads saying he 'got caught out there on a 2 minute shift' and 'didn't get a chance to change' but I'm not sure. He has shown at times he doesn't change when he should and it bites him - specifically early in the year in a few OT games he and Matthews seemed to suffer from that but got it under control.

He was pretty ticked off on the bench, I would assume at himself so it's a bit of a nothing burger I guess but to your point it was a bit of a WTF happened moment.

Can isn’t doing it though.

I’ll play a lil homer also & say Pettersson is a Selke candidate also. PK’s has 4 shorties & 8pts leading the league & he also scores a lot.

Mathews was killing it on the PK two pre seasons ago and took a clapper off the foot and that was the end of that. He would be a beast on the PK but not worth the injury risk conducive to his style.

That a good take 👍

So the Av’s D with Makar Byram Girard & Toews isn’t that a crazy good fun bunch?

After McDavid I’m not anointing anyone as the next best.

There is a long list of elite players. It’s great for the NHL & the fans.
