Yup and every other one.

We care NOT in a TIE for last.

Columbus by virtue of their lost to the hawks would get the first pick....

The Blackhawks finish last.
The Calgary Flames win the lottery and move from current 15 #5 knocking Montreal to slot six.
The Blackhawks automatically given the top pick. Then the second drawing happens and the pick Ottawa traded to Arizona wins slot two, the Hawks pick THIRD...done.

If they come in second a TIE with Blue Jackets put them in second, they COULD win the lottery and go first. If another teams wins it they go third.

Sorry, Wiz. This doesnt make sense. You flop back and forth with Hawks finishing last and hawks "losing" the tie-break with CBJ and drafting 2nd. If Hawks get 2nd slot, they through the lottery could get bumped as low as 4th pick.

You are right about one part. If the 1st lottery balls fall to someone like Calgary (no team can move up more than 10 spots) who doesnt move up to 1st, then the 1st pick is locked in. The 2nd lottery balls can not leap the 1st pick.

I find it ironic that yet a another Russian is not going to wear a rainbow jersey for a pre game skate,
but almost all the NHL Russians

wear gold jewelry and carry a man bag.

Not a joke. the new Hawk Russian goalie does....

You are correct unless at team like Detroit wins the lottery where they CAN jump to slot one yes the Hawks would not pick second or if anyone in the 12th or lower spots wins the second lottery.

If anyone finishing 13-16 just enhance their draft position upward but not to the top two...

Two different scenarios happen:
If Hawks get 2nd slot, after the first drawing, they through the first lottery and could get bumped as low as 4th pick if they don't win the second

- wiz1901

The reason i know the Hawks are taking the Russian, is they will get bumped to #4, thus facing that decision.

With all the future picks, the risk that might exist with drafting the 1A player in the draft at the #4 slot, they will figure is worth it.

Wait, the Hawks and Blue Jackets have each beat each other this year. And total goals were the same. 6-6.
So if they do tie, does it come down to total wins?

It is either total wins or goal differential. The rule is confusing but right now Columbus has it in both.

If both teams play the same amount of games, then the tiebreaker is regulation wins. Currently the Jackets have one less RW than the Hawks. By the way, Toews will be in the lineup tomorrow night.
Edit - I see that LA’s link had the Toews news.

Wait until Hughes blows by him and snipes a couple goals….

He’ll do his “goodbye lap” and retire a LEGEND….

Heck, if they lost 10-0 I would give this man a standing ovation!

Malkin didn't seem to mind wearing it. Where's the proof that a Russian player's family would be targeted by the Russian government if the player followed the directive of his U.S. employer? I don't see anything in the law specifying actions outside of Russian borders.

Hey Hoser, I’m a cybernetic hero and tough guy of the first order.

P.K Subban made a great comment today. You can’t mandate people to be activists. I personally like the idea of the Pride pre game warm ups but at the end of the day it’s up to the individual. And I’m sure with the current political climate in Russia it’s best for Russian player to keep their heads down and mouths shut.

Be nice to win the lottery, i do wonder though if the Blackhawks actually have a formula based on production and birthday relationship?

Korchinski was a surprise to me but he and Rinzel have late birthdays and KKs performance this year warrants where KD drafted him.

My son is a math major and he was reading a book about outliers and one of the examples was kids in Canada born between January and March had the best shot of being professional hockey players.

Birth month of Canadian hockey players in the NHL. January and February 9.4%, July 9.3%, March 9.1%.

So 2 out of 3?

Supposedly this book was written late 2000s and Canada has or maybe had a cutoff date Jan 1st?

I agree. Some folks, no matter the reason and they don't have to explain, just don't want to wear the pride jerseys.

As I mentioned to you Paul, maybe there's a work around. Minor league and jrs franchises have cancer nights where the dye the ice pink and green for St Patrick's Day. Why don't NHL franchises just project rainbows on the ice like they do the flag for Pride Night instead of having the players wear pride jerseys? ..... This way no player/individual is forced to "participate" or accept a cause they're only playing the game on the ice provided.

Interesting, this is exactly how Poles described it when asked a question of rounds. He said they don't look at players in rounds, only in tiers.

There's 7 rounds in NHL and NFL drafts, be interesting to see how many tiers there in each for the average team.

- vabeachbear

I think Poles may group players in tiers/clumps for trade purposes among other reasons. Say he has the 9th pick, has 4 players lumped/tiered together and is offered a trade down to the 12th pick.

He knows he can make that deal and get 1 of the 4 players he has rated equally cuz he's only dropping 3 spots. Seems simple enough but you really don't hear of managers tiering players but IMO the probably do.

Like I've told Wiz, following and learning jrs for 15 yrs I have a good idea who will be drafted, even late rd picks, but often I can't pinpoint what exact rd. But again, after watching closely for 15 yrs I can see a kid and be pretty sure he's an x rd talent only cuz I've seen 15 drafts of these kids but at the same time I don't see enough Major Junior and Europe to compare USHL kids to but I've learned what a 1st, 2nd or 3rd rd talent should look like from experience.

Goalies are the hardest. But for me stopping the puck isn't the most important thing for a jr goalie. It's the foundation I look for. 5ish yrs ago the Steel started the owner's, Robbins is worth 2 billion, 19/20 yr old 5ft 8in son in goal 40 of the 60 games. It was his 2nd yr in goal, the yr before he played maybe 20 games.

He was giving up 5-6-7 goals per game but they kept running him out. You could see the kid could skate, IMO the best skater on the team, and see the old man put 10's of thousands into his coaching. ..... I'd post the kid looked fantastic giving up 7 goals.

He did everything but stop the puck. Great skating, excellent balance, square to pucks, technically sound, quick as a cat and he never showed the effects of giving up 6-7 goals. I'd post sooner or later stopping pucks will come cuz he has everything else.

Kid put up an .880 SPG but I'll be damned he started stopping pucks maybe at game 45-50 and in the playoffs the kid took em a couple rds deep with a .930 SPG and got a ride to AZ St.

The yr the Steel won their 1st cup, think it was 2017. The CHL had a ban on import goalies so those kids went to the USHL and it was awesome. Steel's #1 was Dan Vladar a Czech and the team they beat in OT of Game 5, they only play 5 games a rd, was Sioux City and their goalie was a Swiss kid named Akira Schmid.

Loved Schmid. Wonderfully balanced, big kid, 6ft 4ish, who could skate and stop pucks technically and athletically. Didn't think the Steel could beat him. Visually appealing in all respects. I knew he was a player but had no idea where he might get drafted, he went to Jersey in rd 5 and today is their 3rd goalie with a .917 SPG in 17 games.

Vladar, who won the cup for the Steel, went in rd 3 to Boston and today is Calgary's #2. Big kid, 6ft 5in, but visually he was ugly. Much like Crawford he stumbled, stabbed at pucks, was off balance, off his angle but just stopped pucks. Period.

You could see Schmid's foundation and expect improvement up the ladder. Would Vladar continue stopping pucks up the ladder with a sloppy foundation or just at the jr level?..... Well, getting drafted in rd 3 is not a swing. Someone thought he'd stop pucks, probably at the NHL level despite the visuals and sure enough he is.

Schmid who is beautiful to watch went in rd 5, a swing, and he's stropping NHL pucks........ Go figure.

Sportsnet has Brindley at about where Wiz and Ricco project him.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/...s-for-the-2023-nhl-draft/

- paulr

Thanks for posting the link.

I've been sold on Brindley since he was 16 due to his IQ and compete but had no idea at the time if the smallish kid had NHL in the future. Now you can see it. I haven't seen him since the WJC but know he's taken a jump.

I posted his comparable is Point due to his IQ but a much better skater than Point but doesn't have Point's scoring ability, yet. ... Now as a winger, Point is a centerman, I'm wonder if Jasper Bratt is the comparable. Excellent vison, smallish and + speed.

Love how the writer/scout said Fantilli "persevered" the WJC. Indeed, dropped from L1 to L4 and the kid didn't mope. Instead he played hair on fire, hit everything in sight, drive the middle, engage along the walls, win puck battles, play with speed and found a way to make a difference, help his club in anyway he could to the Gold. ... Gimme a bunch of those types at any level.

He has My Guy Hrabal as the first goalie off the board!! Yep, having a poor draft yr on a bad USHL Omaha team but man what a package. 6ft 6in but moves like a 6 footer, super technical, very athletic too, calm/quiet/efficient/quick, excellent balanced skater, tracks and reads really well that along with his skating gets him square to everything. My untrained eye can not see a weakness...... IMO he's the best goalie prospect I've seen play USHL and that's counting all of the NTDP goalies including Spencer Knight.

I'm being redundant but at the start of the season I had 2 big questions and posted so, and that was before any preliminary 2023 draft lists . How far will Michkov fall and where will Hrabal get drafted. Good chance Hrabal is the first goalie off the board and a great chance a team gets incredible value at the 4-5-? draft slot with Michkov.
