Game of the night NYR @ NJ followed by EDM @ LA..... Interested to see Dman TOI tonight for the Hawks vs STL. Last game Vlasic lead all Dmen in TOI followed by my guy Kaiser. .. Keep giving those kids minutes until they show they can't handle them.

Watching that NJ/Rangers game, man the Devils have a lot of speed. I’m with you on TOI for the young D Rico, that’s what keeps me tuning in.

Yes. You and Mr Ricochet: play the kids

So BTW noticed Hardman demoted and A Wagner recalled

So Wagner was acquired in the flurry of deadline trades. Good skating speed. Showed speed in period one with good scoring opportunity with his speed a key. What else is there to him - I don’t think he is a top prospect, right?

No doubt NJ is the fastest team in the NHL. They counter in a blink, hound pucks and relentlessly take away time and space. Hair on fire hockey.

Been thinking, hoping, wondering if this is the kind of hockey KD wants to play? What little we know of KD so far is he drafts speed and compete. Could the Hawks look ,like NJ in 5 yrs?

CLB takes BOS to OT!! Bruins take it but CLB gets a point and is at 54 with the Hawks.

Down 3-1. Hawks are a well rounded team. 15 of the 18 skaters are all a minus 1. lol

So I had to different devices on so I could watch Columbus tie in regulation against the Bruins. Pasta won it for them in OT.
I was very excited that now the Hawks and Columbus were tied with equal points (54) but then saw that Stalock beat the Bluejackets in their only game against each other.
(the were 1-1 vs. San Jose, btw.)

Rule change idea, when a goalie gets called for a penalty the opposing team gets to choose, from the players in the ice, who serves it. Rather than the offending team.

I noticed that too when checking to see how the kids were doing as far as plus minus and TOI.

So an interesting nugget heard in the radio broadcast which I will share

Athansiou played in Los Angeles with A Wagner as a teammate. Wideman asked, who is faster skater. AA said Wagner was and added that he is the fastest skater in the league. Faster than McKinnon and McDavid. Yes Athansiou replied.

But can AA or Wagner play at that speed, sadly we know the answer to that.

SJ with another win. If the Hawks get Bedard thanks to a worse record than San Jose, Reimer should sign a one day contract with the Hawks and have his jersey lifted to the rafters.

Tonight A DeBrincat had an opportunity to record a Gordie Howe hat trick

There won’t be but a few times DeBrincat fights. He needed an assist to have pulled off the feat. He had # 25 was the game winning goal

Who would have guessed that Hagel (28 goals) would have more goals than DeBrincat?

With the 5th pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks select Ryan Leonard.

I have no reasoning behind this. Just tired and bored on a Friday afternoon. Cheers everyone!

Wiz, have you ever thought of ranking players in tiers as well as numerically? ... As I've told you before I don't have the breadth of seeing players that you have so for me after USHL kids, who I see a good bit of, seeing players ranked in tiers/clumps is helpful.

For instance, I knew Scott Morrow was a player, same with Biuum and Kniess for instance, and many Steel players like Coronato and Farrell cuz I see them, but don't know if they're late 1st or 2nd rounders, or a 3rd or 4th rounder, cuz I don't see enough Major Junior/Europe to compare THAT particular draft class.

You follow me? Bedard a tier of his own, maybe Michkov, Fantilli, Carlsson in a tier followed by Benson and x amount of players, then Riechenbacher and 7 other players and so on? ....... You know, 10 players kinda similar clumped into a tier?

As far as Button he's respected for sure. I think I'm jaded by his color work in the booth. He's states the obvious like he's unearthed nuggets of knowledge. It wears thin for me.

Interesting, this is exactly how Poles described it when asked a question of rounds. He said they don't look at players in rounds, only in tiers.

There's 7 rounds in NHL and NFL drafts, be interesting to see how many tiers there in each for the average team.

Tier seven starts for me at about pick 100, where the the talent becomes taking Europeanss with no freshness date (who need the to attempt to ripen...),Russians fro much later, and junior player planning to attend college and play until they get better, smaller players, etc.
By the 5th round this season you see plenty of names of prospects who have "some" of the attributes, but also need to play and play and add more skills to improve.
Even the 6th round have some interesting options but after that top 100, you are in an entire typical late 4th through 7th pickings, where you dig and dig fro the kid that is gonna make your scouts look good. Most teams fine one or a few every couple years.

And there are several league sons and grandsons that didn't make my top seven rounds...kids who been around the NHl seem to adjust/improve and "get it" and their skills will sometimes take jumps in quality.

So if Rogie Vachon's grandson gets drafted by the Kings, it's because they think he can play goal, not because he lives lives in Redondo Beach, Ca. looking out at Catalina Island.

I simply am greedy and I like of these guys in what I called my Tier five:
5Will Smith all around centre
5Zach Benson undersized
5Eduard Sale a dark horse with incredible creativity and abilities offensively
5Colby Barlow a big wing
5Nate Danielson he is #9 on my list, nobody else's, based on he is a hockey player like we are used to for decades, one who projects as an effective future NHL centre who can score, and fly...((I STAND corrected, as my girlfriend Corey Pronman HAS HIM AT SLOT FIVE ahead of Will Smith. Davidson is the epitome of the description keeps saying he wants in his forward group, fast and able to make plays, and is a very under-rated stick-handler. He plays tough, 200 feet and maybe the best skater in the class. Is he the hawks pick if they draft 5 ?

5Brayden Yager ---I love that he didn't have super star production this season, and he got spanked down to slot ten...wow...Blues are picking ten...

5Ryan Leonard with Will Smith he formed the USA top line with Chicago area Gabriel Perreault (who some think is the true engine of the line, now all three are committed to Boston U. for next year.
Now my list becomes more of my own but it still passes slot #20 and includes a huge tier.
Tier 5 continues
5Andrew Cristall and undersized elusive attacker and another of my "reaches"

5Calum Ritchie. <---was in my top ten forever and some have him around in the SECOND!

5Matthew Wood worried about his foot speed? His hands and quickness will win you over...

5Oliver Moore - the USA development teams next first line centre.

5Ethan Gauthier - to think that 5 Dalibor Dvorsky has been unworthy to be taken until slot #17 but despite the fact that Gauthier isn't a burner, he sure is scrappy, and has good skills and wears his heart on his sleeve. To think he is before Dvorsky is behind him is more about the strength of this draft in the teens and past.

5-6Axel Sandin Pelikka Defense

I want one the top five names on this list if seven enough to run to the table of each team before they select to try and make a deal.

If danielsson or someone the Blackhawks have a chubby about who has size and "it", would you trade the Lightning pick and earliest second rounder to move up above 20+. TB slot) to (for argument sake slot#14-17 ?

Or would you trade the Lightning #20+ and the Ottawa #44 for a shot at #14-17 ?

Or if the Rangers do not win crap and we get their second THIS year at #60 with that Lightning Bagel first rounder?

How about #53 plus the TB first rounder (trading BOTH Tampa picks THIS draft) for that 14-17 ?

How about #60 and #20 plus?

I am not even sure if a team can plan until after the lottery.

So obviously you slightly overplay to jump up in hockey (not craziness like NFL QBs, BUT...just like at the deadline many GMs get in a new planning phase, and there will be some who suddenly WANT?NEED?DESIRE more picks now and will trade at the expense of quantity....like when the Hawks made Dallas a contender after the Stars draft Miro Heiskanen, trading the picks the allowed the Blackhawks to select Henri Jokiharju andAndrei Altybarmakyan (as Entwhistle was taken right before!) the hawks sent the goalie gift Jake Oettinger and then they draft Jason Robertson nine picks after Joke.

Could this happen?
Doubtful.
The HAWKS WANT
the early pick. 1, 2, 3 ,4
the second First. 20, 21, -----#32 if Tampa wins, early if the flop.
the first second. 33-34 35
the second Ottawa second 44 the
Tampa bay THIRD second 53, 54------#64
The New York FOURTH second rounder at #60 but....The second-round pick going to Chicago will become a first-round selection in either 2024 or 2025 if the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference Final this season. It's top-10 protected in 2024.

So for all intents and purposes the GM has 6 high end chances at players.

Will they want all of them to restock the farm?
Will they go home run reach on a kid who is basically a potential NHLer like last years Samuel Rinzel?

I think I see what the #44 and the Lightning second can get me into the area of the 20's and then if not, try dealing the Lightning first rounder and with the the #44 Ottawa.

What the heck am I getting at? It is my team I am Gm and I want:

A perfect hawk draft for me would be

Connor Bedard
Nate Danielson
Quentin Musty
Charle Stramel
Kasper Haltunnen
Jakub Stancl
goalie prospect

A writer, eh?

if you are ready to proof the first three rounds of profiles, I am ready to hand you the keys to the car....

it is my fingers they are dyslexic.

I think I fixed them before I read your cautionary note.Tehy fixed?????

And do I re-read my words, hardly ever.

Did not mean to offend. The work you do is fabulous and I look forward to reading your posts. I politely refuse the offer of the keys to the car. Thank you for what you do. I was also a union electrician for thirty-four years. I only mention that because it seems being a writer left a bad taste in your mouth. I will teh no more!
