Except the debate in the US is focused on putting some modest controls on the sale and ownership of guns. For the right, background checks and red flag laws are considered an absolute infringement on a constitutional right enshrined when muskets were in use. States like Tennessee are passing “Constitutional Carry” laws that allow for purchase of guns to anyone over the age of 18 without any background check or training.

The only discussion of banning is over AR15s, the gun that so frightened cops in Texas they refused to go after the shooter in the school.

If you want to change the goalposts to those fighting to put "modest" controls on guns, that's your prerogative, but that ain't the extent of the Second Amendment debate.

More than 2/3ds of all gun related homicides are handguns. AR15s amount to an exceedingly small amount of those homicides (less than 20/year).

And sure, the Uvalde cops were (frank)ing cowards (a Mom ran into the school to save her kids while those (frank)s twiddled their thumbs outside) but it would seem the Nashville cops bravely performed their duty.

The "muskets" argument is so patently absurd it's not even worth debating.

Having said all of that, I'm all for stricter gun licensing and having mandatory training required before purchasing. Hell, I'm all for having gun owners renewing their training after a certain amount of years. Cops especially - their required training is lacking to an outrageous degree (they should have many, many hours of gun training each year).

But to pretend this is a black and white topic is profoundly wrong. And, if I may use an on-the-nose pun, there is no silver bullet solution that will reduce mass shootings per gun control unless you go after all of them.

Breaking away from #gunbuzz for a moment I'm not a big fan of Burger's Priest, I found it way overpriced for what it was. I'll take a good old mom and pop shop burger or a hole in the wall but been serving burgers forever over almost every new hip burger place I've tried.

Dangerous Dan's at Broadview and Queen is a great example of the type of burger joint on my go to list in the Tdot.

I decided to go old school sub for lunch, The BellyBuster on King West - never dissapoints.

My office is in Nepean (aka Mississauga of Ottawa), so I don't have much choice other than world burger...and I can't walk to it.

Leafs’ D at practice today:

McCabe — Brodie
Giordano — Holl
Rielly — Schenn
Timmins — Liljegren

Probably what we see in playoffs.

Unless the Leafs sweep and play a perfect series I do think we see Liljregren though.

Yep, no background checks needed to buy a gun in Tennessee and no Red Flag laws that would allow a judge to order the confiscation of guns from people deemed to be a danger to themselves or others. That’s quite the dream.

I live in California, waiting period and background check for my guns.

And, I have guns ONLY because I worry about the other bumholes with guns. I hate them. Like the gadgetry of them... like playing Call of Duty and getting the cool HamR gun with 500 rounds, cool only because its fake really.

Gun range can be fun-ish but scary at the same time with the people in there that have all kinds of overkill type weapons and I always think its going to turn in to an all out shout out. But I have no choice but to go so I can learn how to use them properly if I'm going to have them. Such a butt puckering conundrum.

They just scare the poop out of me and I hate having to have them at all.

That is exactly the 2nd Amendment debate and the things you are for put you squarely into the liberal camp.

Have never been but have heard great things. I wasn't aiming for an exhaustive list because there are just way too many amazing burgers in the GTA.

Love you too, Aeth, but you can't compare other nations with the US - there are just too many cultural, historical, and population differences (immigrants, rural vs. urban, etc.) to account for.

It's satisfying to say, "guns are the problem", but that's way too broad a statement. Which problem? All of them? Mass shootings? Inner city gun violence? Suicides?

How would you enforce strict gun laws? And which weapons do you propose banning? Just AR15s? All semi-automatic rifles? Handguns?

How would you propose enforcing that?

There is nothing "simple" about the topic of gun control and America. And my position ain't BS.
