Hexy wasn't given the leeway to bottom out.

Remains to be seen if Danny will be allowed to or not.

His commentary seems to point to it, wait and see if it happens

this. in two years depending on who/what the return on in any trades are, the future can look bright real quick. just remember the praise our farm and prospect pool had for the longest time. two first round picks next year, if danny can get some more the future looks different.

I'm sure he'd like to. We'll see how steadfast his new bosses are.

New Chairman is from Blue Cross. Perfect background for a team with Coots, Cam, & the corpse of Ryan Ellis.

How many times have we heard the "x year plan" jokes about Hextall? How the team became "boring" without drama and splashes to keep the knuckleheads entertained?

If we're really looking at a 7-10 year process the fans will turn on Danny by season 3-4. If the pres/ownership aren't there to tell the fans (and media) to (frank) off then the plan will get scrapped.

- Tomahawk

I think if we are a solid team in 3-4 years and 2nd round of the playoffs, the fans will be ok with that progression. The cup should always be the goal, but having a good team capable of going deep into the playoffs should would be entertaining and also a success.

I dont think hextall wanted to bottom out, he always talked about staying competitive and building through the draft. Trades like Hartnell for Umberger was more or less bottoming out, trading better talent for sub talent

Torts has not sounded this season like his mindset is stuck in the 70s. He has mentioned many times for the need of the team to be more aggressive on the PK for example versus sitting back and just blocking shots. He has also stated how important it is for his defenseman to not only stop plays but to transition the puck up ice. He has pushed Sanheim to be more aggressive offensively, pushed Risto to be less aggressive and for York to roam a lot more. There are some things that will never change in hockey in order to be a successful team, for example the ability to effectively fore check, keep your feet moving when you engage the puck carrier and to have an active stick.
- jd250

Torts also spoke of Sanheim playing well, but he knows there is more talent there and his job was to get all of it from Sanheim, not that he wasnt currently playing well, just he had higher ceiling.

I do, our cap space shouldnt be an issue then. just can't whiff on some of our high picks. Time will tell. Guessing at least Provy will be gone this summer, just need to figure out how to get us some top 10 picks this year

eh, not sure we know that, he was one trade from doing it right in my opinion, he had to dump Jake or Simmer with Schenn.

IMO Danny has already made it clear that the Flyers are not bottoming out when he stated they are not stripping the team down to the studs nor are they having a fire sale. This means no bottoming out. The way the team is playing right now and the players that are coming back and up in the system, I think this will be as low as this team gets in quite a while.

HIPPA be damned, I want the x-ray "fillums" & MRIs of Ryan Ellis multi layered injury to be taken to an independent 3rd party forensic investigator and have a PI report on his activities....

Sure, why not? If Tippet and Foerster continue to progress both can be 30+ goal scorers. TK is already a 30+ goal scorer and Couturier should be back in full swing next season. Guathier is coming in 2 years as well as whoever the Flyers draft in the 1st round this year. Plus the Flyers are losing dead weight like Hayes and JVR in the off season, DeAngelo next trade deadline. Hart is one of the best goalies in the league and Ersson will continue to develop as a good backup. And Torts will be getting the most out of this group you can bet on that. All in all, its not all doom and gloom around here.

You need to be able to interpret what people are saying. They are already a bottom team in the league, he doesn’t need to sell every player. IMO he means he’s going to look at all the pieces and see what fits moving forward, it’s not a tag sale. Maybe he just moves Provy this summer, that could be all he does roster wise. Just selling everything just to strip it down would be idiotic

They'd have to be drafting some amazing turnkey talent for that to happen.

Unless you're talking about a circa 2007 Homer style retool?

Right, the Flyers are already a bottom team in the league but far from the worst team in the league, and will have only a small chance of getting Bedard. What I am saying is I don't see this team getting any worse or lower in the league. They have too much talent and good players coming back.

The Flyers have a good core under 25 in the NHL, even better bottom 9 when you include some of the vets (assume Coots is healthy). They have a really good bottom 4. They have 8 potential NHLers in LHV, Foerster, Desnoyers, Lycksell, Brink on the O side. On the D side they have Attard, Zamula and Andrae and in goal they have Errson. Then of course you have Cutter in college and a top 10 pick this draft.

Last 2 years most all were hurt, roll forward and this season has re-established the value of most players. Point being, this is not a complete reset, they do have assets and potential, they have a good bit to work with, just needs to be done right and they can be relevant by 2026

I think we are about as low as we are going to get. There are too many long term contracts that are either untradeable or worse will get back unequal value in a trade. Retaining salary kind of also defeats the purpose.

The bottom line is this team is going to have to have a stellar three or four drafts in a row drafting in the 5-10 range. Ride out some of these deals until they DO become tradeable.

I can deal with the Couturier deal. It's the Sanheim and Ristolainen deals that are going to be the albatrosses in the room. Two deals that never should have been signed.

Also two deals that ASF said some in the franchise were secretly texting around the league saying, Hey, we were not involved in doing this, please don't hold it against us when we are out there looking for other jobs....

A lot of questions will be answered in the off season if Briere deals Konecny and or Hart and or Provorov. (for a good return)

We shall see. Lets hope there are interesting times ahead.
