Yeah but he was never a Flyer. Clarke, Holmgren, Hextall and now Briere were all Flyers.

I believe they will go an- ex player route (not necessarily former Flyer) for President assuming Briere is permanent hire for GM. Just a hunch, nothing I have read.
-Trox88

I would think they would look for someone with strong GM experience and/or executive experience, preferably from a more recent championship franchise.

Kind of felt that way, but it was not portrayed that way. I thought it was reported by almost all the media that Scott would stay on as governor of the Flyers and the new guy was only brought in for the business side of things? It was like they all said it wasn’t even a story that Hilferty was brought in. Wrong they were.
Good news is that it actually looks like results do matter over at Comcast!!

Ticket Sales matter for sure. When I ever saw the increase in Comp tickets this year, I had a feeling there would be a house cleaning.

Its the mindset -- get the puck in deep chip it off the glass block shots etc
- corduroy

Torts has not sounded this season like his mindset is stuck in the 70s. He has mentioned many times for the need of the team to be more aggressive on the PK for example versus sitting back and just blocking shots. He has also stated how important it is for his defenseman to not only stop plays but to transition the puck up ice. He has pushed Sanheim to be more aggressive offensively, pushed Risto to be less aggressive and for York to roam a lot more. There are some things that will never change in hockey in order to be a successful team, for example the ability to effectively fore check, keep your feet moving when you engage the puck carrier and to have an active stick.

So, he wants Sanheim to be aggressive. Ristolainen to not be aggressive and he wants York to "roam". Three defenseman and he wants all three to play differently. Got it!

I pay little attention to what Tortorella says. He's a complete BS artist and pay more attention to what happens on the ice.

Look at what he did with Laine. Look at his comments about Zegras lacross goal. His mindset is not suited for how the game of hockey is not played - he would rather stifle offensive flair for a well rounded 200 ft game and someone who will lay it on the line blocking shots

So pay attention to what has happned on the ice this season. York was sent down to play big minutes in the AHL because he was not ready to take risks offensively. He was called up around the mid point of this season and has played very well, one of the best Flyers defenseman.Risto was benched early in the season and since he returned has been one of the more steady defenseman on the team. Risto is no longer taking himself out of position and is much better 5 on 5 and on the PK compared to last year. Also Risto is starting to see PP time. Sanheim by your own admission has had a horrible season. He got benched and since he has returned you can see his offensive game coming back. He is driving more plays, taking more risks and generating more offense. These are facts, not opinions!

Maybe there’s something actually going on here. Will be interesting to see what Hilferty does once he takes the reins (although perhaps he’s already calling the shots). One would assume he makes the official call on Briere as GM, and hires the President of Hockey Operations, and hires a couple “advisors” (to replace the trinity) all with enough time for them to prepare for the draft/free agency and other off-season movement. The saga of the front office will dominate and soon we should have a pretty good idea of it’s the same ‘ol same ‘ol or a new dawn for the Flyers.

What does it matter if you score 4 goals in a game or score a high light reel goal if you are a -30 for the season? Laine was so good Winnipeg couldn't wait to get rid of him and how has the Blue Jackets team been since Laine has been part of it? How is Anaheim doing this year or last year? You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't play the game the right way it means nothing. Hockey is still a team game and always will be. Its not the NBA and thank Goodness for that.

You should see what Adam Oates, the consultant for a ton of high end players in the league, thinks of the lacrosse goal

All necessary steps towards finally turning the page.

Now we just have to wait and see who they hire as Pres. If he/she's strong enough to stand up to corporate then the Flyers might have an actual shot at this rebuild. If not, Danny will have his knees taken out the minute the city starts to lose patience.

At least among the fans I know. This was a miscalculation by the Franchise. I don't think the city was losing patience with Hextall for example. I think the franchise was. I believe the fans knew what needed to be done but the franchise didn't have the stomach for it. Granted Hextall's performance played a big part, but his idea was the right one. Good idea, poor execution.

This time, the good thing is that the fans wont stand for another half assed retool. And even if a vocal minority gets loud ( the SHOOOOT crowd ) there are enough knowledgeable fans here that they will endure a true rebuild as long as it looks like it is being done the right way.

At least I hope so.

How many times have we heard the "x year plan" jokes about Hextall? How the team became "boring" without drama and splashes to keep the knuckleheads entertained?

If we're really looking at a 7-10 year process the fans will turn on Danny by season 3-4. If the pres/ownership aren't there to tell the fans (and media) to (frank) off then the plan will get scrapped.

Tda and jvr signings made no sense.
- Peter Richards

The JvR signing made sense. We were very thin on left wing. So much so G was moved to the left side from center and beyond that we had Michael Raffl and Oskar Lindblom.

I liked Myers…but his over all play fell off a cliff. Risto has had his ups and Downs, but has played with more consistency this year…I’m fine with him in his current state. Ghost had some bad luck with injuries and his play dropped, but I still think the proper coaching and some patience and Ghost could still be here…truth was they were looking for answers and Ghost was perceived as part of the problem. In the end his career probably needed a change but as we see now his play is much better then it was when we shipped him away while having to add pieces. I never understood the TDA signing…not for where this team is.
It’s an opinion board…speak freely.

- landros 2

In my opinion, if Ghost doesnt generate offense every game, he’s useless. Once he was moved, don’t bring in another guy like him. I actually wanted to see York take PP responsibilities on the top unit.

That’s not a comparable in the slightest bit man, come on. Hextall didn’t Make a choice, being a bubble team and picking 18th overall isn’t a plan. He should have went forward with a rebuild or went for it. You can’t just stick your feet in the mud for 4 years and wait for something to happen. Danny is starting at the bottom.

That's why I've been saying I feel bad for whomever the next GM is. Their is a less than 1% chance of this getting turned around quickly.

more looking at it as we cleared the cap space to sign someone towards the end of their career. IMO JVR is a signing you make at that point to start making playoff runs. there were cheap lw's on the market at the time.

instead of having the cap flexibility, we signed a 5 year 7 mil dollar deal for what. 5 years plug, maybe to help some of the kids along. going through a "retool" no imo it wasn;t the right time to make a signing like that.

Hexy wasn't given the leeway to bottom out.

Remains to be seen if Danny will be allowed to or not.
