good mistake. i'll take it! i'm still getting used to the new site. if the payout changes while you're making your bet, you have to click the submit button twice on this site. once to accept the changes and one more time to actually submit the bet.

i recently took my talents to draftkings.

as long as you don't start double-betting unintentionally, the same way we sometimes double-post on this website... although I can't imagine betting sites being as janky and poorly maintained as this one lol.

if they could just get this site to at least run consistently it'd be a big step because it really is a good looking, well set up website compared to a lot of other hockey sites. what a waste.

to be honest I can't really tell how good/bad HB is compared to other hockey websites since I haven't really been around other hockey-related forums or group discussions all that much like you have.

Hf boards are okay if you don't enter the NHL sub forum.

r/hockey is a hivemind who use the upvote/downvote function to eliminate any type of discussion or opinions the majority don't like

yeah I wouldn't mind having an ignore option or whatever but a voting system does sound like a horrible idea if you simply want to have regular conversations/sports banter, and not be involved in a lame popularity contest where everyone is trying to get as many upvotes as possible or some poop.

It has caused self-censorship, and basically the opposite of what an internet community should be. It makes posting on there a pointless endeavor, especially considering reddit seems to be a magnet for people who exhibit anti-social behavior irl. The anonymity gives them the ability to be rude to someone with a differing opinion.

For example, a pod I listen was doing something I didn't enjoy, so in the episode talk I commented on it, and explained why. Basically got hit with downvotes and comments "if you fucking hate it stop fucking listening." People don't act like this in person, but their deviant behavior is enabled on reddit

social media is pretty powerful in how it amplifies people's inner garbage, especially for those who are kinda poopty irl to begin with... you could post a picture of a cute puppy and there's bound to be a cunty bastard somewhere out there that will find a way to be offended by it and start throwing you insults in retaliation lol.

Yep. People try to get shock value, because any form of attention is. Being a dingus online is kinda funny when you're a teenager, or young adult, but because there are no real consequences there is no opportunity to realize you gotta grow up and give it up

and since social media isn't a very old concept and has only recently become such an existential part of people's lives, parents are doing a rather poopty job of teaching their kids how to deal with it and act respectfully through their interactions with others (kinda hard to teach your kids about this when you're part of the problem lol).

Yup. Social media has evolved at a pace that kids don't use what their parents did, so parents can't really help except for banning it in the house
