Disgusting nhl teams are promoting groomers and pedophiles. - Newgod77
And this is the reason they are trying to educate people. Takes like this.
Did the NHL consult with the players before they made these plans?
It sure doesn't seem so? Really irresponsible of them if they didn't. |

Nope
Can you document that
I don’t believe it.
I believe you are extrapolating something that is a reach and is not true. I know of a political party that historically does this itinerary more than any other political party …. So go ahead and enlighten me because I don’t get it |

Never said anything related to who should participate in what sports.
I'm sure you were very vocal about the Women's World Cup being sponsored by Visit Saudi with your obvious passion for women's competitive events.
The only thing I've said is that being gay isn't a choice. Being transgender is not a choice either, for that matter. Clearly there needs to be further discussion and education related to these topics since there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding/ignorance about them.
And pride nights and things like that help to facilitate those discussions which are important to move forward with empathy and understanding. - fattybeef
"T" has been a very visible portion of American sports of late. Women's NCAA swimming has been ruined by two men, obvious men, who claim to be women. Now, a national women's cycling title has been awarded to a man.
The NHL has no business sponsoring anything with a trans w/e attached to it. And, again, every player opting to wear that misogynistic jersey needs to answer why that think men should dominate women's sports.
You can call yourself whatever you like in America, that is your right. I, nor anyone else, should ever be forced into your mental illness.
XX ≠ XY this is not debatable. |

Not a choice.
Which is why these nights exist. There is a fair amount of ignorance and assumptions that people choose to have a sexual orientation which couldn't be further from the truth.
Clearly these nights are necessary and the conversations surrounding them need to take place because there is a rather large and kind of alarming misunderstanding as far as sexual orientation (and gender for that matter) goes. - fattybeef
Whether it is a choice or not, the argument remains the same. If one doesn’t like, agree with, find attractive, etc what someone else does (choice or not), why should they be made to highlight, promote, whatever said thing? You can be tolerant of something and still not want to be involved with it. And the fact that the workplace is at the head of this makes it that much more complicated.
I guess I’ll restate my earlier point. What do these nights accomplish? It’s no secret that LGBT people exist. I’ll say again, if someone from any of those descriptors scored like Ovi, no one would care and everyone would want them on their team |

If you cannot handle it, then ask out of playing in the game and even participating in any way with the game that particular day. I may not agree with your stance but I will respect your freedom of choice |

Imagine winning the lottery and begin to start dreaming of Bedard tearing it up for the Hawks….
However, right before the draft , Bedard comes out as gay…
Me personally I do not care, having many friends and a few family members out in the open.
I’m still dreaming…
But for some, that would be a nightmare, having to cheer for him…
Social issues like this sort themselves out over time…
Even though there are still and will be racist / homophobic people until the end of days, society is more accepting than it was 5/10/15/20/25/30+ years ago…
Heck, I grew up in the 80’s and it was brutal to be a gay man then. 30 years later with education and tolerance life is a bit easier…
See what it’s like in another 30 years…
No exhale today….
Just tolerance and love to all….

So you’re saying the military shouldn’t have a “day”?
And of course it doesn’t give people equal rights. It creates an awareness for people who don’t seem to believe certain people deserve equal rights. Do you believe certain people shouldn’t have the same rights as you? - paulr
You comparing the Military to these FREAKS is exaclty what is wrong with you people.
We give our Veterans a DAY & BLM gets a month, their own websites, own bars, own TV channels so on & so on.....DISGUTING!!!
Great job Hawks!!!

What city is it hard to be a gay man in America in? Honestly? Where is all this oppression I've missed for the last 30 years? Maybe there are some tough spots in rural Mississippi (and that's kind of prejudicial to assume) but it's pretty normal to be gay in any American metro area. |

It's got nothing to do with handling anything. I don't believe these displays accomplish a thing outside of maybe selling some different sweaters. If anyone can explain otherwise and show a benefit, I'm happy to change my stance.
As a hockey player, I am being paid to perform on the ice (and maybe speak to the media?). Outside of that I should be able to go about my way quietly and without any directives from my employer. (No I don't actually play hockey).
I'll add this caveat, since the league has the stance that players can wear different uniforms for warmups for this reason, they should not prohibit players from doing so the entire year. If a player wants to wear the rainbow colors (or any other color) for warm ups every game, they should certainly be allowed to do so. |

The NHL and individual teams should specify that they are not taking sides about the men in woman sports - the NHL OBVIOUSLY is merely supporting the LGBT existence is the sport of hockey by purposely trying to be respectful and non judgemental. Sadly perhaps the NHL stops publicly supporting a game day etc Al because some people feel like the NHL by silence on the men in women competition .,,,could be interpreted as supporting it. Geese i feel most do not want to even look at or think about the aspect you raise, but I guess because it exists the NHL will need to take a position or just stop supporting this theme of respect by having a game Dayi |

Chunk, you seem like an honest broker on this subject. The way I see it is these nights are meant to let a kid, maybe closeted, who's parents don't aqree with being gay, his/her church doesn't agree with being gay and preaches against it with God's wrath to visit them, many peers don't agree or who see gunmen shooting up gay clubs know they are ok and accepted.
The reason for such a high suicide rate among gay kids is they can't find acceptance. Unfortunately too many of them have to look outside their circle to feel they are not a monster and maybe, just maybe, seeing their favorite hockey player skate around with a jersey will say to them no, you are not a monster and are ok.
Unfortunately, it might just take this simple gesture to save a kid's life. |

Well said. This *is* a real issue. The NHL needs to address it. The first reporter with the "balls" to ask a player or GM specifically on this issue will become famous. |

I will not get in a discussion about Democrats or Republicans due solely to the rules of hockeybuzz being too political. Beside, people have views and they MAY get all crazy arguing on the board. |

Good then. Answer me why you think men should participate in and dominate women's sports? Why shouldn't i label you a misogynist? - lacaprup
If there were more men in women’s sports then they might get more attention. |

To try and talk some hockey:
1:00 PM CT — Boston University vs Western Michigan (ESPN2)
4:00 PM CT — St. Cloud State vs Minnesota State (ESPNU)
4:30 PM CT — Denver vs Cornell (ESPN News)
6:00 PM CT — Blackhawks at Capitals (NBCSN)
The Blackhawks have four prospects playing in the NCAA tournament this afternoon, starting with Drew Commesso and Ryan Greene at Boston University. Then Dominic Basse and St. Cloud State take on Minnesota State while Aidan Thompson and Denver face Cornell |

Chunk, do you know, and IIRC the Supreme Court ruled this way, that if an employer directs an employee to make campaign calls for a candidate on company time he must do so and can be fired for refusing a work assignment if he doesn't/won't!
So,. by our laws I can be fired for refusing to make campaign calls for Trump or Biden and a hockey player can be fired for refusing to wear the company uniform.

Yes the parties just go about things differently……everyone is bought or controlled by the ultra wealthy in the world. At minimum to some extent this is a truism in American politics. There is always a subversive party or group too- look at the Bush family in the 1930’s just to go way back in historical context. Try to fight against the powers that be and look at Trump..,.but he is more stupid and a few other things than he is smart. Usually the powers that be do win out even when a maverick is elected President |
