Yeah. We were the team in the field that could turn a bunt into a home run by overthrowing the ball and then overthrowing it again and again - despite there being 0% chance of getting the runner even if the throw was perfect.

I was the captain, and I'd be yelling something like, "Just eat it . . .awww, don't, just . . awwwww, hold it . . .awwww. FUUUUUU----"

Being fair, that team was founded in a bar because we already drank together on Thursday and Friday nights and were looking for an excuse to add Wednesday to the list. Being able to play softball was such a low priority it wasn't even tertiary.

Ya my team use to play in two different leagues, Sun, tues and Thursdays. The post game parking lot analysis use to take its toll on the liver and my sleep. Now i just stick to once a week...although i do miss playing more

When my son was about 5ish, he started on blastball, which is precursor to tee ball. It's tee ball, but first base has a horn in it so when the kids step on it, it "meeps" at them. A lot of the other rules were simplified, and I think you could only throw to first . . .very basic stuff.

But I remember the first time my son took the infield, just starts shuffling his feet in the gravel, "Look, Daddy! I'm making steam!"

Oh. God. Coaching that age is impossible!

Two wonderful parents in our neighbourhood "organized" a summer baseball drop-in thingy a few years ago for really little kids. It was just to introduce kids to baseball.

Kids got to pick if they wanted to play by rules, or if the rules were loose. You then wore a piece of colour-coded tape on your shirt, so everybody knew what "rules" you were playing by.

So little kids who chose to not play by strict rules got to hit a home run every time (more accurately run around the bases every time) - even if they got tagged out six times.

It was amazing to watch (my kids were too old, but often volunteered to help out). The kids had fun, but they also sorta kinda learned baseball rules and practiced the basics.

WE’RE RAISING A GENERATION OF LOSERS! EVERYBODY DOESN’T GET TO HIT A HOME RUN IN REAL LIFE. EVERYBODY DOESN’T GET TO BE HAPPY IN LIFE AND HAVE FRIENDS AND PEOPLE TO BE WITH. OR SO I’VE HEARD.

Somebody needs to sit him down and tell him to quit worrying so much about the defensive side of the game.

He needs to take more chances.

Quit being stapled to the blue line when we have the puck in the opposition's end.

Not be afraid of making high-risk passes when he's the last guy back.

- Atomic Wedgie

The sarcasm is on point.

The (frank)ing guy couldn't find his position if you had a shock collar on him.

He's already a defensive liability every time he jumps over the boards, absolutely no one needs him sewering the team even more for the minimal plus that may arise out of the added weak generic offence he brings.

This team is not built in a fashion that it's supposed to need additional offence to be successful, pretty (frank)in sure the team had 4 other goals in both games he scored.

He needs to be told that if he can't stop abandoning his post he will have his ass stapled to the bench permanently until they find him a seat in the pressbox.

this is wild, the leafs get all the calls...or something

I also saw that the Leafs are the only team in the league without a 5 on 3 PP....every other team has at least 3.

anyways, the leafs have the refs in thier pockets

So I'm screwing around on the NHL's stats page, and it tells a slightly different tale, at least for this year:

Leafs are 23rd in penalties drawn.

20th in penalties taken.

A net penalty of 2 - 17th in the league.

Which sounds pretty fair - they're a skills team (meaning not particularly physical) so I'd imagine penalty calls would be lower for both teams during the game.

Although they are a puck possession team, so you could probably make the case that opposition teams should have higher penalty counts - especially since we are 4th in the league in standings.

Childbirth is definitely a crazy time and very mentally draining. Hockey aside, here's to a healthy newborn and Mother. 🍻

Big Floyd fan BTW.

It's always disappointing and so Leafy when they get blown out like last night. Especially against a team like the Islanders. Clutterbuck with 2 goals and an assist for crying out loud.

And just when I'm about to jump off the cliff.... Again!, we'll see them spank both Florida and Carolina the next 2 games.

They'll look like world beaters once again.

I do like the trades they made and the additions seem to be exactly what most thought they were missing.

I have to say though that their record and play since the deadline hasn't inspired much confidence except that Tampa seems to be crapping the bed.

But isn't this exactly how it's supposed to go?

Leafs will start to pick up the pace and solidify home ice for the first round while Tampa scuffles along. Both goalies will be on a great run. Top 3 lines scoring at will while the 4th line looks like Gainey x3.

Then the Leafs lose in game 7 after being up 3-2 in games and in that third period too, giving up the tying goal in the last minute after a crappy penalty call. The winner is a real heartbreaker that should have been stopped by a Peewee goalie.

And the Bruins get mauled by the Panthers who go to the finals.... Lol

I think it really stands out when playing a chippy, dirty...aka gritty team.
Penalties tend to even out...cuz refs...but should be super lopsided

extreme example, but

team A does 15 things that could be called a penalty and gets called for 3
Team B does 5 things that could be called a penalty and gets called for 3

just to add to this

and when the Leafs try to step up the physical play, and do the 15 bad things...they end up getting 6 penalties and player C gets tossed out...

Only thing tedious for me has been Matthews having a mediocre year for him.
