interesting. i look at him as a hard worker. not as much of a lack of iq, but skills all around. he's a really good 3rd line player or a competent 2 line wing depending on his line mates. doesn't overly excel but is average or better in most categories.

myers is an example of a low hockey iq. and if you haven't paid attention risto.

- Peter Richards

I have no issue with Laughton's effort, it's just the dumb penalties.

Yeah, Risto doesn't appear to me as the "Oracle of Hockey"

To me, when a player is described as having a high "Hockey IQ", that is akin to "the girl has a great personality".

funny how a lot of people complained about the trade....a few years later no one involved is playing regularly in the nhl. two of them out indefinately with injuries....the other future elite shut down man that people claimed, has been waived or scratched by two tteams.

Yes. Its truly amazing that some on here, who most likely never picked up a stick on a sheet of ice, have this idea that Torts does not know how to coach a professional hockey team while he approaches 700 NHL wins
- jd250

Coaches have a shelf life, not just with teams but career wise as well. I’ve seen it happen with much better coaches than Torts and if you want a more recent example just look at Ken Hitchcock. Torts had his day, but that day has past. Scratching Sanheim in his hometown with friends and family in the stands was a bush league move and reminiscent of the old school NHL coaches of the 70s and 80s.

Sure, Sanheim had been struggling, but he had been struggling for a couple weeks. To wait til the Calgary game was a no class move on Torts part and worse, it’s the kind of move that can quickly lose a coach the respect of the players.

Tortorella is cooked, he needs to go.

Laughton definitely must be a favorite. I can't tell you how many times he's taken stupid penalties that cost the team this year. I think Laughton puts in a good effort night in and night out, but when people mention "Hockey IQ", I don't think that he's in that conversation.
- RustyPipes
I strongly agree here. Laughts has taken a boat load of dumb penalties lately with the capper being in the Saturday game when he took a neutral zone penalty with 7 seconds left. That game was ova if not for that atrocious penalty by Laughts. All coaches have their favorites in every sport just like managers have their go to people in the corporate world. Not sure why this is such a big deal to some folks, but Torts should be honest about it and for God's sake please stop with the two defenders and one forward in the overtime. He is making himself look like a stubborn old mule.

Sadheim will never look great esthetically hockey wise. He reminds me of Weise, A Mac, and Holl on the Leafs.

Wow, what an insightful response. If you disagree fine, disagree, no need to be insulting.

But I’ll make you a bet, not only will the Flyers never make the playoffs under Torts, he’ll be gone after next season.

The players on the side of the bench who receive back rubs after ever shift I believe are Laughton, Cates, Tippett, DeAngelo and Seeler. Maybe Risto too but not like the 5 I mentioned. Everyone else seems fair game to public criticism.

- SuperSchennBros

I liked DeAngelo's play in his first few flyers games, but at this point I'd give away a 3rd for someone to take him.

With Couturier and Atkinson back, they are going to try. Until they are 10 points behind the last WC spot in February.

That's the limit to the response he can make. He can't make an intelligent rebuttal. Or he can provide inside info that he claims to have. That's about it.

If you follow along, nobody has an issue with a coach having favorites. Every coach does. It's the nonsense he talks about pretending that he doesn't.

I'm pretty sure Nashville won that trade. Dumped a broken Ellis and acquired Cody Glass. He has 27 points in 58 games.

Was it hard for you to see the stick lift, take the puck, shove him away, and then go score a goal from Tkatchuk on Frost there?
