So bill stated yesterday Philly would be very active in the ufa market because 8 mil in cap space. Why? Just spit balling here wouldnt it be better to rid team of players that don’t fit a rebuild timeline. And just maybe play some of the plenty of eligible young players. Bank the cap space and maybe use that at the trade deadline as major asset to acquire picks/players that is the trend with under cap teams recently.

Because the rebuild talk is misdirection. An admission to appease the angry fan base.

What it really means is moving on from Kevin Hayes, and then spending to the cap and maximizing resources.

You could be right. We definitely will know basically by the end of the draft.

So bill doesn’t buy the rebuild narrative? As flyers insider wouldn’t he have some pulse to this?

There will be discussion but this is one where Torts will likely have to cede. They aren't going to be aggressive in the UFA market this summer.

We shouldn’t be involved in UFA. Not because we’re in a rebuild but most of the names I’m reading are well past their collective prime. Most of these names may help a team ready to contend with their experience but nothing like a Johnny Gaudreau from last summer. I hate to admit it and I think we all knew the right play was not to sign Johnny Hockey, I’m still a little torn on whether this was a good idea or not.

I could see them making some RFA offer sheets if nothing else to appease the fans ,with some sexy names ,that they are trying

I don’t think points are the issue. It’s the turnovers. High risk plays. The trying to do too much. It’s the having one really nice game and barely noticeable the following game.

Owen Tippett turns the puck over just as frequently (especially at the bluelines) and his 5v5 defensive stats all look pretty much the same as Frost's, except that he's been on the ice for 46 goals against to Frost's 40.

Yet one player gets rewarded with 25 mins of ice time while the other is constantly called out and is now on a line w/ Brendan Lemieux.

Only justification in UFA signings would be maybe to fill a couple spots with cheap but respected veterans to help the younger guys develop. IE a solid veteran presence for York, Zemula, Attard etc if this is a true rebuild. Also having someone (and I’m not advocating signing him) like Lucic on the roster to teach any young “power forward” like Gauthier etc. but they have to be cheap, short term, and there has to be a good reason for it and not for the purpose of keeping the Flyers competitive.

Why did I assume that you guys would know which stats were the relevant ones lol...

Goals against per 60:
Tipp 3.17
Frost 2.72

Expected goals against per 60:
Tipp 2.64
Frost 2.6

Scoring chances against per 60:
Tipp 29.13
Frost 29.06

Giveaways per 60
Tipp 0.96
Frost 1.02

Not a big difference at all.

In no way shape or form should they be involved in UFA.

I don't think Gaudreau would have been the right thing to do either. He wouldn't have moved the needle all that much (look at Columbus) and would have hamstrung this franchise even more from a contract and cap standpoint.

As for UFA, this team shouldn't be signing ANY UFA's. All roster spots should be taken by prospects where possible. They have enough vets in Laughton, Coots, Atkinson, Hayes, (if not dealt) Provorov, (if not dealt).

Lets see what Briere does. We know if Fletch and the "old head three" were still in charge, signings would be the way.

I meant offensive, don’t really care if a winger is splitting hairs with someone on give aways per 60 lol

If they think giving up MORE draft picks would be appeasing the fans then they are more out of touch than we thought.

Plus I don't think they have the picks or cap space to be making offer sheets anyway.

TDA got worked in OT but Provy deserves to get sat for what he did on the tying goal.

To Oilers: Hart, Provy, Laughton, Seeler + pick(s), or bottom 6 type player/prospect

To Flyers: Draisaitl, Campbell

If Oilers say that's not enough, then swap TK for Laughts. I was just thinking that Laughts would better address a team need for them if they should get put out of the playoffs again this year. Flyers could also add one of our middle/bottom 6 type forwards or a B level prospect. Draisaitl turns 28 in October, which on the surface doesn't seem to ideally fit the Flyers' rebuilding timeline. But with his playing style, I think he'll be a very productive player well into his 30s. I'm not a big Campbell fan, but Flyers take him to help the money work. And he can be the guy through the rebuild years.

- Big_E_88

Why do the Flyers want to trade for Draisaitl? He's what 28 now? How do they
build the rest of the team around him?

I agree. I’m proud of the Flyers for resisting temptation when it comes to Gaudreau. He’s a really good player. How they couldn’t resist ND is a different story completely.

Yeah I am all for sitting "vets" for younger players the rest of the way. Does not matter to me which vet sits.

Doesn't seem like the Phantoms are playing well.
