I’m not sure I’ve been this excited since ‘94 (at their chances of getting the cup)
I’ll be “that guy”… I think this may be the best team we’ve ever had. And some jackass from NJ isn’t changing my mind - Slimtj100

Those 5 games were the best 5 games the Rangers ever played in my lifetime. Games 5-7 vs Pit and games 1&2 vs MTL. |

Reading is hard? - tomburton99
It’s the second half of the sentence that irks some, but do you brotha.
That K’andre chart from last night is amazing. Is it rare that a player grades as high as him? |

And here we finally have the proof that could, hopefully, blessedly, finally put this debate to rest...
Tom is right that what occurred in the game AND CAN ACTUALLY BE CAPTURED BY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS points to the Pens having a strong showing. And, EVERYONE is correct that this displays the limits of statistical analysis, because to say that Pitt deserved to win at all is ludicrous.
A tool, not THE tool. |

Best individual Game score for any player this year.
Edit: About the 2nd part of the sentence, I only have the publicly published tools to use. They both align. So it's hard for me to be like "Nope don't care 66.6% is wrong." That doesn't mean it was a bad game to watch. It was very. They were a little lax defensively. But Saturday game was a vintage game of their from last year. |

Like most statistical models, these should evolve. They need to better capture game flow. Obviously the Pens/Preds we’re going to press being down as much as they were. The models should capture the “bend don’t break” from the rangers. |

I mean they kinda do. How different does that game look if Igor gives up the 3 goals he's expected to? Probably a lot. How different is the game if Jarry makes the save on Zibanejad? Different.
Edit: The Nashville game is a different game. The Rangers were clearly the better team for 50 out of 60 minute's |

We’ve (you and I) discussed this in the past. They don’t capture the error term, which is exactly what you’re talking about. In sound statistical modeling, the error term explains the variance of outcomes associated with the model (I.e. Igor playing better than his avg this year)
And that error term is exactly why you can’t solely rely on statistics. Not just in hockey, but in any application.
I know, nerdy math poop. |

You did, to the extent that someone, like myself, who doesn't dismiss analytics out of hand understood the nuance. I just tried to put it in slightly more elementary terms. Sort of an olive branch, bridge building sort of thing. |

I mean that's so hard to because the human element of the sport. I wish it could follow that path of eliminating error, but it's almost impossible. |

I hate to base my opinions on a game to game basis but this team is looking good. I said I want better D and Igor looking more like last year and man o man have they the last few games. Tempered expectations still but the excite o meter is rising!!! - Brukie
Since Boston game…6-0-1

Read this tweet from Herman who love analytics and it makes sense based on the models:
When you score a goal, offensive-zone play ends. No rebounds. No continued cycle. No offensive zone faceoff. Score 30 seconds into a PP? That's 90 seconds "lost" of high-danger shooting opportunities. It's counterintuitive but scoring a lot like this actually *hurts* your xG numbers. It's an outlier situation.
I could care less what the charts say after those games |
