I can see a potential Flyers' forward line-up in 2024 being:

TK - Couts - Tippet
Atkinson - Laughton - Farabee
Cates - Frost - Foerster
Deslauriers - Desnoyers - Allison

extras: Lycksell, Laczynski

First call-up: Bobby Brink

Which I can live with for now. This presumes the following:

1. The above players are still on the team next season
2. Hayes is traded
3. Gauthier stays at BC for one more season
4. Whomever the Flyers pick in 2023 is not ready to make the team
5. Brandon Lemieux and Bellows are not resigned

The fun will start with Gauthier and the Flyers 2023 top pick are ready the following season.

I won’t pretend to know what a line up might look like next year simply because this summer could see some guys moved out beyond what we are thinking. I really think a healthy Bobby Brink along with Attard and Zamula may press for greater roles. I still haven’t heard anything on Gauthier if indeed the decision has been made. It’s nice to see Foerster playing like he belongs as well. One of the keys next year will be having a healthy Coots…with a back who knows? I’m not a doctor. I won’t give odds about something I know nothing about. But if they are able to get this guy back, he is a Torts type player who really can lead this young group.

I thought about that but I went with Laughton because he is I believe the Flyer's top faceoff center this season. Cates is having a good rookie season but until he improves his faceoffs I think Laughton has to play center. The Flyers are getting killed possession-wise because they can't win a face-off, especially on the PP.

Hayes is this year, not Laughton but in your scenario. Hayes is moved.

I think Provy is a solid D man who really needs a change of scenery. Sanheim’s contract is not a very good one, but if the cap takes a couple of big jumps it may not look as bad by year 3 or 4. With Sanheim it seems like a guy that you are always left wanting more. I guess we’ll see what Briere is as a GM if indeed that’s the way they go…like every guy they bring in I always hope he can do a good job and am willing to take a wait and see approach. Unlike when Fletcher arrived we are starting pretty close to rock bottom.
- landros 2

Yes, rock bottom and no cash to spend. I like what I have heard from Briere and I certainly like that he was a good player and seems to still have a strong competitive streak. He just needs to surround himself with good people, pay attention to the right KPIs, start to free up cap space and be patient until the right moment comes.

Cap really doesn’t matter if they are going to suck anyways…hopefully Briere bides his time and is able to get out from under some of Fletchers biggest gaffe’s. My calling for Fletchers head over the summer had more to do with damage control. The longer he stayed in the GM chair the harder it was going to be for his successor. If they are indeed trying to get younger then there shouldn’t be anyUFA’s on their radar anyways for the next couple of summers.

I know Gauthier wants to go pro after this season, at least that is what I am hearing around the rink. I spoke with a northeast NHL scout last week at the BC/Merrimack game and he thought the Flyers were going to push for Gauthier to play another season at BC. Take that for what its worth, he is not a Flyers scout but talks to many scouts in the area. I watched Zamula the other night when the Phantoms game was broadcast on the NHL network, he looked bad. I am not sure if it was just a bad game or that is how he has looked down there this year. I'm not sure he will make the Flyers next season. Attard I think has a chance.

How much time have you spent at the rink with BC to hear what is being said around the rink?

I’d be fine with Gauthier turning pro. The worst outcome is he learns the pro game in Lehigh. I’m sure the Flyers want to do it right by the kid and there is no rush. Chances are he will dominate at BC for another year….but what if he doesn’t like school? What if he wants to challenge the pro game….he’s excelled at everything he’s tried, so I could see him telling the Flyers he’s ready to take another step.

I think Cap does matter even if the team stinks. Right now the Flyers are projected to have $8M in cap space next season, but this does not take into account a potential bump in the cap next season. Let's say the cap goes up $2M next season. Now the Flyers have $10M in cap space. I have maintained all along that the Flyers do not have to dip into free agency at all next season, that instead it should be another season of evaluating and developing the young players they have and getting players like Couts back on track. So that means all the Flyers have to do is extend Frost, Cates and York. Ellis will be on LTIR again and his cap hit is $6.25M, so it would be nice if the Flyers can have more cap space than Ellis' cap hit so they can actually start accumulating cap space throughout the season for the first time in a while. This of course presumes the Flyers free up space by trading Hayes.

The cap is either going to go up 1M or 4M+ depending on whether escrow is paid in full. Depending on who is traded this off season. The Flyers may very well dip into low term free agency for some stopgap players.

If they trade Provorov, who plays on the top pairing?

Certainly not a low-term free agent. The answer is they have no one to replace Provey and since Torts really seems to like him, I don't see Provey getting moved.

I think if you look at Allison, Lyzynski, Deslaurier, Cates, the Flyers have enough 10-12 goal scorers. I’d rather see those guys play key roles in the bottom six then bring in stop gaps to appease the coach….lol. Hopefully this where Danny boy tells Torts to deal with the guys I’m giving you.

Why not, they've done that before. That they don't have anyone to replace Provorov if he is traded. Is why they may dip into a free agency for a short term player.

If they are going young and want to build it right why are we worried about our #1 d man who clearly wouldn’t be that on any good team? Hell, Risto was a top pairing guy in Buffalo for 4 years.
Give the minutes to guys like Sanheim and York.
How do guys like Provy and TK fit the timeline for being a decent team again? Consider how much is left on the contracts and what their status is at the end.

Went to the Phantoms game Sunday. Gruden from the penguins took out a phantom, the phantom laid on the ice while bleeding. The refs were blind to the call, pure stupidity.

No phantom challenged Gruden. No phantom went after him during the remainder of the game. Gruden even scored a goal.

The phantoms looked spineless and pathetic. Did the AHL ban fighting or is it the philosophy of the coaches to look pathetic?

They definitely don’t need any free agent forwards this offseason. They need to develop what they have. Only caveat is if Coots and Atkinson both can’t play, and they don’t move anyone, maybe one. I still wouldn’t. Give Frost a longer look at PK.

Gostisbehere will probably be out of their price range. I'd take him over Angelo. Fletcher should've.

I sure would have taken him over Risto and Angelo and also kept 73 draft picks they gave up to for those two clowns.
