Has the Q ever been sued/held financially responsible for a fight? Slowly but surely we’re going to turn into womens hockey with no hitting etc. It’s part of the game, stop changing the game
- nyrangers9479

They hit in male high school, college, WJC, and Olympic hockey. Guess what they don't do. Fight.

Do I want to see a full end to fighting, no. Is it a good idea to stop letting children punch each other in the face? Maybe. Gonna need to see your data that says otherwise.

I mean as much of wiener I am, certain people I want to not suffer. Very few.

I had a cornea transplant last April. They need to see me monthly to remove sutures strategically and make sure I'm not rejecting. Going well so far.

I don't care if there is a women ref. If you're a good referee and earned your stripes, good for you. But you run the risk that every other ref runs, which is getting caught with a hook breaking up a fight. You don't change the game because of the refs.
- NYR11

I could care less if a women that is qualified/good is a ref either. But for this particular sport, I don’t see it as a good fit.

Meh, I will worry about it when it gets to the NHL. As for the refs I wish there were women refs in that Minny/Blues game the other night. Would have had an awesome goalie fight
- mdw7413

And once it’s at the NHL, it’s to late to stop it. Min/STL was a huge disappointment when they wouldn’t let MAF and Binnington go.

I'm torn about it too. Part of me feels it is a foundational aspect of the game. The other part thinks some (a lot) of the fighting is dumb, especially being forced to fight after a clean hit. If they keep calling the instigator and maybe go further with suspensions, it will help curb some of the "dumb" fights.

The refs decided to maintain some sense of order and sanity. It is disappointing in some ways but I get it.

I rarely, if at all watch the games too. However, I think it goes a bit further than that. It could have a ripple effect if other leagues follow suit. If all major junior leagues ban fighting, it will absolutely have an effect on the game. It may not be next season, but it will be sooner than later unfortunately.
- NYR11

Technically, fighting isn’t “allowed” at the NHL level. It’s a bit of an assumption to think that the Q, a league that isn’t really a fighting league anyway, is going to have a ripple effect to the NHL. The NCAA continues to be my example.

I think Tom is right on this one. It’s about paying kids (16 & 17 year olds) and not allowing them to fight.

I’m completely indifferent on the point. I don’t want them to get rid of fighting at any level, but also don’t give a rats ass if it’s banned. The players will figure out a way to police the game differently if fighting is gone.

They hit much less in all those leagues than they do in the NHL. The NHL is slowly trying to ban fighting, within 5-10 years I’d say there’s a proposal from the league to do it.

Which is why the league needs to start calling the instigator more. It's right there. The penalty for the instigator also needs to be more severe.

I just don't see it happening. They would lose viewership, etc. They would basically kill the sport, they aren't that dumb

A match penalty and a game might get some people thinking if it's worth it.

I’m fine with the instigator, but be consistent in calling it. I actually feel this year they’ve been pretty good about it with a lot of Trouba’s hits/fights

So the game still has physicality just not fighting? Guess what some of the most watched hockey games have been, across the world? Olympic hockey games.

It's not the big C or something terrible but it (frank)ing sucked.

Cut the damn middle of my eye out and sewed a dead person's part back into the hole.

That’s bc they happen once every 4 years. I don’t watch soccer but I watch the World Cup. Terrible example. You know what else I’ve never watched outside of the Olympics and never would even if it was on daily? Curling. You can’t compare Olympic Hockey to everyday hockey. Many more ppl watch just simply bc it’s the Olympics.

I think they worried about the other guys going at it and it escalating into a bench clearing.

The league has for the past 10+ year tried slowly to get fighting out of the game. Why? I don’t know. But the visors, the instigator etc etc, it’s a push and they’re not going to stop until it’s eventually gone.
