Welcome. I don't recall you saying that to anyone in the canucks thread. Just general poop talking about the leafs. You're welcome here though.

But here's the warning to everyone migrating over. If you "talk hockey" here and talk poop in the canucks thread about this blog or the posters here it ain't cool. It just looks like trolling.

You can hate the leafs in the canucks thread. You can hope they lose in the first round and pretend to not care if they win a round or two, you can say Matthews is trash or the goalies are a joke, but talking poop about this blog, the blogger, it's posters or it's moderators won't be tolerated.

I've been arguing about how good Matthews is for years. Actually, I loved Nylander when most here wanted him out.

I don't always bring popular opinions but that's the way hockey talk goes.

Didn’t know that. Phil is a bit different of a cat lol

Don't think Seguin and Hamilton would have made too much of a difference imo

That's fine. Unpopular opinions won't get a ban. They may piss people off, like a lot of people, but aslong as people don't cross the CoC nobody should get banned.

The warning wasn't just for you

So why ask a question that can't be answered then? Just even more of a troll then.

If "playoffs are a different beast" and "all about results" how can we know what this years team does there without being in the playoffs? It's a question with zero answers.

- Aaron_85

Just stating the obvious. That goes for the Bruins as well. All stats go out the window.

It’s all about projections. I tend to go with teams with top goalies & good D to support them have the best chances to move on. Now if lacking scoring I think they don’t go far. Teams like that are Minny & the Canes. Better rounded teams that have depth I like more. There is always the new surprise team & I pick NJD. As for the Leafs I think Dubas has done well getting more pieces & added dimensions for the PO’s. It’ll come down to the D pairings getting sorted & the depth to go deep. A conference final should be in the cards. A cup well idk who & won’t bet on any team.

That's what I keep trying to tell everyone, the Leafs are all about defence and goaltending this year.

They're different. Pretty much why everyone can almost taste the champagne. I mean Matthews isn't even carrying them, it's a total team effort.

As an aside, I wouldn't worry about him trolling. He's likely just jealous about how good the Leafs are.

At no point have I ever said I hate the Leafs. Find it. I'm here to see what the opinion is on the D corps and participate in civil discussions. I watched them live a couple of weeks ago and am sharing an observation. Any problem from here on out is yours.
- Load Management

Yeah I refuted your observation with metrics. They are a top defensive team. One game is a small sample size to take anything out of it.

You can join any discussion you like. I'm suspicious considering you were egging Nighthawk to come here and see if he can get away with something tonight or if he would be banned or not. I take it you made your post to attempt to follow the leader and join in the fun.

Wait stats go out the window but now you want projections. How do you get the projections? You use current stats to project them. You can't project something without having something to base it off of.

Nothing you said about "better rounded teams" means anything because they are based off stats and you said stats don't mean anything in the post season. It's a moot conversation you're trying to have by your own words.

I enjoy talking with Nighty. The discussion is something I felt I could further with a different observation because it gets pretty stale in here sometimes. You said we were welcome to come and talk hockey here. We're here talking hockey. It's as simple as that.

We'll know nighthawk feels welcome when he starts posting lineups and trade proposals.

He got someone to post some D pairings. I'd say he isn't far off.

So what's going on with Matthews this year? Is he injured more than he's letting on?

Any chance he's back to normal for the playoffs?

I believe some have said he's injured or has something nagging him. He still has 30 goals on the season "in a down year" so I think it's funny that everyone, media and leaf fans alike, consider him "off".

My personal take is he's improved in other areas of his game, like defensively, so I think that coupled with being banged up. Hope ROR comes back healthy and Marner keeps it up so all the pressure isn't on Matthews.

Nylander relieves a lot of pressure. 10G and 19P in his last 19 playoff games.

30 goals is great, unless you scored 60 the year before? No matter which way you slice it that's quite the dip.

The nice thing about playing for a powerhouse like the Leafs is you can refine your game during the regular season. Hopefully, we're back to seeing the same old Matthews during the playoffs.

I have no clue how to get or if you even can get back old posts you make - but I remember about a month ago I posted a crazy stat line/article Sportsnet had on Matthews and it should how he is a distant first ahead of Bergeron in a number of defensive cats for a forward. Blocked shots, take aways, d zone take aways, etc. the whole article was about how he may end up “only” (ha) 80 or so pts and 30-40 goals but his stats on the other side of the puck are super selke worthy.
If I’m a Leafs fan - I would be happier seeing him with a 40/40 season playing as good as he’s been 5v5 as a centre over a 60+ season where he is just avg defensively.

Naw man, 60 is so rare, anything was going to be a big dip. The guy can still hit 40 in an "off year".

Yzerman was a goal scorer like Matthews at the start of his career. He turned into less of a goal scorer and a better center to become a cup champion. I'd rather have "quite a dip" in goals and a better centerman and I think he's become that.
