Briere has been the Interim-GM for 48 hours, what do you expect him to say exactly? He is not going to throw Fletcher or the old guard under the bus, and he was certainly not going to start calling out players.
- jd250

He absolutely could've been far more forthcoming about change and been honest with the fans. The way that the coach has been. He had no issue right away letting us know things were screwed up. Instead, Briere is talking about working with people in place. Not what I want to hear. It's time for a scorched earth policy. Like Flyers 01 said earlier. Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining. Nobody has to be called out specifically to convey that message.

The very first thing that has to truly change if real actual change is to occur. Is for the people who are making the decisions to truly change. Just changing the person who is making the decisions is not going to enact real change if the mindset of the organization doesn't change drastically. Much of what Briere said is very concerning. The tone of the press conference as a whole, was not what I wanted to hear.

The only tone that meant something to me was the energy and excitement. I don’t expect the real change to have happened in 48 hours, much less be able to hear it from the newly-minted interim GM. By the time training camp rolls around in the fall, we should have a better understanding of the changes in front office structure and start seeing whatever strategy they have chosen unfolding.

Here’s an idea. Find a better way to spend your time. Go learn a second or third language or something. Where does complaining every second of everyday about this organization get you? The team is bad. Most teams reach this point at some point in their history, I’m not gonna allow it to ruin my days, weeks, months or years. Turning on Danny Briere two minutes after accepting a job as interm because he says “the team harder to play against” isn’t rational thinking. What is he suppose to say? It’s all GM talk. Nobody is saying how they really feel when the cameras are on except maybe John Tortorella and you don’t like what he has to say either.

amen. my father has worked in the NHL for 25+ years. we laugh at folks like this - it's just not that serious

Do you believe that I'm suggesting that real change to happen in that time frame? I'm talking about the message that was sent. Like I said, if you believe Briere was being honest, then a lot of his comments warrant concern. Like I've also said previously, actions mean more than words.

agree, he needed to say it is a rebuild, all that mattered, the rest GM blah blah blah. All about the actions

Noteworthy is the news that Carter Hart is available..tied in with the contract length and "rebuild" time projection situation...

Who will be hiring the next President, Scott or someone above him at comcast? I am still very skeptical about this whole process. I don't know the timeline of Scott's retirement but I hope its very soon. I don't think he is qualified to hire a qualified Prez.
- Flybynight88

What does the President do vs the GM? I would have thought the President would be the one to hire the GM.

He should be made available, one of the assets we still hold. Him TK and Provy should all be discussed as a trade this off season

He has to be. The Flyers are in a position where the only way out of this is to draft their way out of it. For that you need draft capital. They only have so many chips to trade that could get them the high level assets they need. It's a case where they need to decide who to trade not based on who they want to keep. But on who can get them the best offers and the best future assets. That puts every player on the table.

Yes there is not much in the cupboard like that to deal with.

That willingness to deal towards a better future shows a bit of the depth/seriousness of their " plan". The chief cook and his recipes for the team are TBD

Need good people drafting also. Hextall tried to draft his way, and we still are lacking top line players with all his 1st round draft picks

i am sure they will be discussed, however i think there will only be two or three trades this summer. briere talking about the long term and the amount of younger guys here. we all think hayes is out. and probably Provie or Sanhiem. just guessing an overpayment tk. or really anyone with an overpayment. remember...not a fire sale.

TK, provorov, hart.

These are the 3 they need to move this summer to change course here.

A fanbase does not make a franchise marquee. The Flyers are no longer a marquee franchise and hasn't been for a while. They're currently an embarrassment to the city and their fanbase.
- MJL

So what is the definition of marquee franchise? You can't ask people for it then poop on their definition without offering up your own.

Know when "scorched earth" became popular? When Shanahan said it in Toronto. Not the GM. The bigger boss. Dont expect those types of words from an interim GM. The presser was just to placate media and because it had to be done. Don't for one second think that his statement wasn't likely prepared by PR people.

That makes sense. Usually GMs make a few trades and then make some more as the season goes on. It'll take two solid off seasons to gut it.

They need to come up with two more picks in the first two rounds of this draft. Hopefully another 1st rounder

I agree. Two off seasons

So then you agree with me that the Flyers are not a hard team to play against. We've cleared that up.
- MJL

Compared to the top half of the league .. absolutely, I never stated I disagreed. What I said was compared to last year, I agree with Briere that this team has taken a small step forward.

He did not look to be that size on the ice to me. His skating is fine but he is not a speedster.
- MJL

Foester will never be a speedster, but he has shown in the last two games to be able to keep up with the game and get to the right spots on the ice in time to actually contribute to plays. Last year, he was behind the play a lot and didn't know how to create space for his shot. He will never be a speedster, but will be an adequate skater for his size. I can see his ceiling as maybe a 2nd line player and with that shot will be a weapon on the PP.
