Interesting article on some potential college UDFAs coming available after the Frozen Four.

Hawks could easily dangle a cup of coffee in the NHL for each that signs a deal. #suckforbedard

Except you have to leave contract slots open to sign your own draftees, especially since we had so many last year and will in the upcoming 3 years at least.

There were many good parts in his game and other things - like using his stick and ways he battles against a larger forward when they are stationed near the net and the puck play is being rotated closer to our net. But the accomplishments have been at the AHL level. On ice and in the locker room the coaches and KD have to assess whether Mitchell can improve through strength training workouts so that his all around game can improve at the NHL level

We had Boqvist who had similar strength issues. He has improved his strength but to what degree is he now strong enough to effectively neutralize and defend against larger size forwards Boqvist has great ability which has not shown up enough apparently now with him in Columbus.

Is Mitchell potentially a Boqvist lesser light. Sometimes a smaller frame lightweight defenseman breaks through and is able to carve out an NHL playing career

With Mitchell remember he was Bowman and Kelly’s draft. Obviously KD knows Mitchell is very good at the AHL level.

The logical outcome for Mitchell would be his being dealt for a forward prospect who is a greenhorn or has a developmental shortcoming which may not be overcome. Such as the strength issue. We do not know how hard and how much Mitchell might improve. I have to believe his tentativeness is related to strength issue

However if I take the time to review old posts someone on this blog pointed out Mitchell poor decisions on ice - how to defend, turning puck over in defensive and offensive situations

So in the final analysis KD will make a call on Mitchell…….when….I’d say he has one year remaining to show noticeable improvement- if they like him and his contract is re Up for one year

I like Crevier skill set and see him as someone overcoming the tall skinny frame. He improves much next season in the AHL then he could move ahead of Mitchell

Kaiser probably needs to gain strength too as the NHL is a man’s league and teenagers are transitioning with their body at different stages as they grow into (or not) a man’s body

I believe in KD so I believe he will put much review into his decisions. You know Roos is sort of in the same situation. I like his ability and he needs most likely better strength and playing time. I wonder how Roos and Mitchell were able to produce decent statistical numbers against Tampa as they were a pairing. Now Regula might just not have the feet but if he can improve enough he could have a great offensive game one day as a third pair

So we just wait and see how all these prospects turn out. And Mr Richochet this includes your favorite, Phillips, ascending piecemeal step to regular NHL employment

And based on a podcast i listened to it sounds like Kaiser is the best dman we have right now without the puck on his stick? I think he's a lefty to, but to me Mitchell seems timid along the boards, i see smaller guys like Guttman who seem to compete harder for pucks.

You listened to Roumeliotis too, huh? I thought it was just me.

Honestly, I think del Mastro is probably the best/closest overall prospect the Hawks have at the moment.

I hope so. I imagine he'd go to the AHL, or maybe KD says I'll keep you up with the big club to finish out the season?

I notice that, i know many don't care for football talk, both the Blackhawks and Bears are looking for guys who want to compete, love the game. Even though we have a bunch of misfit hockey players, they compete their ass off to go along with a nice solid system, it works well in the NHL.

It's almost like all that stuff that Domi said about really wanting to play for Richardson was all true.

It wasn't just Domi, all the defenseman that played for the Canadiens when they went to the finals loved playing for him.

To me (especially since Kane left, and like it or not the Hawks are now Seth Jones team), Jones is playing like a $9 mil. defenseman. Like it or not, with all the warts that C. Jones has, he has held up pretty well as a #1 pairing with his brother (he too looks more confident and is asserting himself more).

It probably is as much Dean as it is Richardson, but whatever they are doing with the defense, just imagine if they had talent that was slotted properly.

Guttman apparently injured (no indication, but not on the ice), so the Hawks call up Hardman and Buddy Robinson.

KD: "Good luck Luke. Let's see if they can score a goal now..."

I've not been able to watch full games, but from what I've seen of Seth, it seems like he just said "there is no one left to lead these guys, so it may as well be me".

To be honest, This team probably hasn't had a real (active) leader for the past two years or so. Toews was out, or non-effective for a while. Kane worked with some of the skill guys, but one could understand that he knew the team wasn't built to win and that had to grate on him.

The nice thing about all of the old guard being gone is that players are all trying to make their mark instead of trying to fit on a line with Kane and deferring too much. I'm sure they are all looking at this like they have a true shot to make an impression on the league. I'm sure it is frustrating for Seth, but I'm guessing there is a part of him that is kind of excited to play with all the hungry young players.

THIS sounds very truthful

Other: on BleecherNation they have a Twitter video of Kaiser scoring a goal. He looks impressive. Now I read where he has added strength

The Blackhawks defense season after next includes Korchinski, Kaiser,, DeMaestro, S Jones

I don’t think Allen is NHL ready; he has to improve on his weaknesses. At least one more veteran after those four. Surprise pick if he keeps developing is Crevier gets a look. I say the jury
Is still out on Phillips but either Phillips or Vlasic should be here too. With the youngsters as the four I choose above, I don’t think experience is as big a factor as it might normally be. The team system they play and the coaching is huge look at L A Kings went with last season with Tr Yawney coaching

What do you say, LA HAWK?

And btw how far could Toronto and Edm go in playoffs? Improved but in the end both teams must be much better on defense and in goal than last playoffs.

Watch Carolina fizzle again? Boston is mighty good and Tampa built for playoff success. Now enter the NJ Devils. Maybe NJ falls but they will be tougher to beat next season. I am really going to enjoy if Dallas goes against Colorado again

Two teams that have playoff failure have to be Carolina, Minnesota, probably NYR. Good coaching might help them but I don’t see those last three advancing

As strange as it sounds for a team this low in the standings, but maybe Hockey Ops and the coaching staff have a firm development plan in place and they are willing to work with the players on continuous improvement.

And why wouldn't the players like LR - he played 1500 games in the league and went thru hard times as a player and he doesn't come across as some egomaniac like Mike Babcock or Tortorella or somebody inflexible like Darryl Sutter or Claude Jilian.

Hawks need to get worse goaltending down the stretch here if they wan to secure last place. That has been a big difference when they win games, the goalies keeping them in games they shouldn't be in.

Luke Richardson on Cole Guttman: “He’s going to be shut down for the year. He’s going to have a shoulder procedure that he hurt back in November but he played through it.” #Blackhawks

So that's why they didn't paper him to Rockford to make him eligible for the playoffs, they knew they were going to shut him down.

Here was Wiz's report on Rolston his draft year

An elite skater Is too much of a perimeter player for a prospect with high caliber abilities. Waste time and effort in his possession unnecessarily playing laterally when more straight line approach would serve the offensive attack. Is a goal scorer with a fast stick and uses his wide base to grab loose pucks. Needs to keep his head up and work to help push pace more fully. Committed to Notre Dame university. His father is Brian Rolston fomer NHLer.

Production really jumped the last 2 years since they got him from Colorado for Soderberg. Good time to sign him, he has a little window to show something before the horde of younger prospects comes in.
