To be fair I think the Leafs have a enough high end talent and were looking for depth. The ROR trade was good imo. With that said here’s hoping it was all for naught.

Should we even play out the rest of the season or should Bettman just hand the SC to Bergeron now?

Tampa is about to have a Blackhawks level or heavier downfall in a couple years having no youth in the system

As a fan who hasn't ever seen my favorite team win the Cup, I'll gladly trade 10 years of futility for back-to-back Cups and back-to-back-to-back SCFs.

Pittsburgh will be way worse than that. At least if FSG keep Hextard in charge.

Things are bad for the Hawks now, but the future is bright. Some decent prospects and loads of picks the next 3 years. If Bedard is drafted that'll lightspeed the rebuild... My guess is 2-3 years out until back into a playoff spot.

Just wish Stan wasn't a bum and entered the rebuild phase in 2018+

I’d agree with many on this post, and say the Leafs. But, with a twist.

They made lots of moves. However, I think where they dropped the ball was trying to do too much in too short of a span. The Sandin for Gustafsson + 1st did not make them better, nor did they do it for the pick. That was a setup to have a (very late) 1st for another trade they were unable to pull off. Both received pieces were likely supposed to be flipped for a bigger fish as part of a larger package. If I had to guess based on Dubas’ history, likely gunning for MORE offence with a 75% retained Erik Karlsson. He may have even put the right package together and EK could have refused to waive (taxes, winter, etc). Too many moving parts, and ran out of time to finish what he planned. In the end, the Leafs failed for what they didn’t do rather than all the other stuff they did pull off. There was a plan in motion that fell short.

My crazy prediction: Dubas is not extended after leafs lose in round 1. He takes a job as GM in Arizona (before the draft), knowing Matthews will come there the following year if a winner is being built. Tons of young talent, picks, and prospects to manufacture a competitive team in short order with an aggressive GM. Working towards selling out season tickets at the new arena when it’s ready to take the desert dogs out of mullet arena, Dubas is given the green light to do what it takes to make the Coyotes a bubble playoff team NEXT SEASON to show AM34 that the ‘yotes are ready. Hometown boy returns to play saviour. Arizona becomes relevant.

I'm no Leafs fan, but I have no idea why there's this "Dubas get's fired if they don't win the Cup" sentiment. By all accounts he's done an amazing job in Toronto. They have one of the strongest lineups in the league and their core is young. The moves he made at this deadline essentially addressed every small concern that they might have had, except maybe goaltending.

I understand that something needs to happen if they get bounced in the 1st round, but at some point this needs to be on the players and/or coach - not to mention, what other team would be in trouble for losing a 7 game series to Tampa? Dubas has given the Leafs more ammo to win than 95% of the teams in the league have. He's easily a Top 10 GM in the league (IMO) and probably Top 5. Again, I'm not a Leafs fan, but if I'm running the Leafs I'm extending Dubas regardless without a second thought.

Famous undefeated Ranger goaltending legend Mackenzie Skapski was born the day after you guys won your last cup. Next year he'll be thirty.

Glass houses, dude. Whether it's them, you or us - put down the (frank)ing stones.
