retaining is not putting themselves in a bad position to me. They are not contending in the next 3 years in any way. Hayes at 50% should get a good return. Should the key word with this GM doubtful. a 40-50 point complimentary player for 3.5 is very good value. - hello it's me 2050
That's what I'm hoping. I just can't stand to see him in a flyers uniform. I felt the same way about JvR. But Hayes puts up enough points offensively to potentially interest another team.
There's some point in having veteran leadership or even mediocre players who play their hearts out, but soft older players with huge contracts who don't bother to play much defense, and are soft on the forcheck, I mean I'd rather just watch a waiver wire player fight for a contract instead, or some call ups getting time to learn the big game.
Geez I sound like Torts. Got to say that while the games are almost unwatchable these days, I'm really enjoying Torts so much more than I ever expected. |

With his play this year, I would expect that there would be some interest around the league in Hayes as a player, but gotta think that most GMs are still wary of 3 more years at $7.1M. Sure the Flyers could retain some salary to make it happen, or get a slightly better return. But Chuck will have to decide at what cost point does carrying dead salary for 3 years just become not worth it?
And did I see on here yesterday that Hayes now has a 12 team NTC? That could further complicate things. I would have to wonder if he would be okay with going to Columbus, another rebuilding team. Ultimately, I think Hayes gets moved but it seems it will be tricky. And unless the Flyers decide to retain a significant chunk of salary, I think the return would be underwhelming at best. - Big_E_88
Makes zero sense to trade Hayes and retain 3M+ and get little or nothing in exchange which is what will happen if they force a trade. Dont like Hayes, never had he has always been a lazy player and goof ball but giving him away , which is what Flyers will have to do, for nothing and salary retention is dumb. Keep him 2 more yrs then trade him at tdl and get a solid draft pick. Not like this team is going anywhere next 2 yrs. Who cares if Tort doesnt like him Torts will be gone in 2 yrs also |

So will we blaming the coach or GM when you all complain when a young Dman comes plays like crap and doesn’t make the team and Seeler is the 6th? - ClaudeFather
If the young Dman is playing like crap should he be on the team?

So to use your words Hayes is a soft older player who doesnt bother to play defense and is soft on forecheck with 3 yrs left on his contract is going to garner interest from other GMs??????..... |

That would be an utter disaster. Better off just letting him play it out. - MJL
Exactly and trade him at tdl and you will get a decent draft pick. Buyout makes absolutely zero sense. Let it ride 2 more yrs |

If they are deadset on moving him I am fine with it. Just do not add picks for someone to take him. Eat some salary and get an asset. Bring up a young kid to play his wing position.
If he is unhappy here maybe it's the best thing for the player and the team. Honestly, he will not be missed by me.

Just my opinion on trading Hayes. Even if the Flyers retain half of his salary the most you'll get back is a 3rd round pick. I'll take it.
Chuck has put the team in a position of weakness with anyone he tries to trade that isn't named Hart or TK.

maybe one day we can get to the point where teams give us picks to eat salary for another team |

I know at this point its meaningless, but what is the point of keeping Bellows if you aren't even going to field 4 full lines? Waive him to the AHL, as at least he can help the Phantoms. If he gets claimed, so what, and you freed up a contract. It's not just that the Flyers suck, this is just another example of their complete lack of a coherent plan. |

I don't think Torts will allow that. - Tomahawk
Nobody would have interest on him with retained salary? I have a hard time believing that. Even if peanuts come back. Hayes is certainly worth 3.6 a year for a couple more years to someone |

Buyout, salary-retained trade, bad contract in return... the Flyers put themselves at a disadvantage in every one of those scenarios -- compounding the mistake of signing Hayes in the first place.
And, like you said... they don't have the C depth to not replace him.
All just to make Torts happy.
-Tomahawk
So now you are a Kevin Hayes fan?? Give me a break already! Kevin Hayes off this club is truly addition by subtraction. He is slow, lazy and does not buy into what Torts wants. You can't win with players like Kevin Hayes playing significant minutes on your team. You are dammed right its about making Torts happy. Before Torts came here, Scott, Fletcher and their stooges were making stupid trades to try to band-aid a lineup together that could make the playoffs. Torts has turned the ship around and got everyone, including Scott, on the same page as the the course of action that should be taken to rebuild this franchise. Its the first time in over a decade everyone within the Flyers organization is on the same page.
Give Torts credit for this!! |

I think you retain $3M per season for the remaining 3 years and you ask for a 2023 2nd round pick and a 2024 3rd or 4th round pick. I think that would be a fair return for Hayes. |

That's exactly why Seeler is a good player to have around. If a young player falters. You can plug Seeler into the 6 spot. Low cap hit, play hard and is reliable as a 6/7. Perfect player for that spot.

You clearly did not comprehend his post. Turning the ship around must be very different in your eyes than it is in mine. Seems as though words are enough to convince you. The Flyers have been on the same page many times. Just the wrong pages with a short time exception. The Flyers being on Tortorella's "page". Is not a good thing for this team's future.
If you can't win with players like Kevin Hayes on your team. Then why have you made numerous statements that a contending team would trade for Hayes? Such as Boston? Is this a newly formed opinion? Do you retract that Boston is going to trade for Hayes? |

Depends on the circumstances. In the Hayes situation, they should have an issue unless it's a very good return. |

I think you are dreaming with that return..somebody takes Hayes at 4.1M for 3 yrs isn't giving you squat in return. |

Ageed. Seeler has good value because if his salary alone and the fact that you don't have to sit a young D at the 7th spot. Glad they didn't trade him. |

forget the salary for a minute, Hayes is an NHL player who can put up points, the issue is fit, he is not the go to guy and needs the right linemates.
