I thought he would have started him tonight so maybe. He looked sharp on Saturday.

Anderson was good enough to win most nights tonight, McDavid doing McDavid things sucks when its against your team. The oilers are surely nothing special

Sabres could be a much more desirable destination for a goalie this offseason.

Well hello Mrs. Bryson. Not sure how anybody can be an apologist for him?
- turbo044

Not a apologist for him, but when I see someone getting left out to dry by his teammates I am not gonna say it was all him.

Since you wanted to go here. Bryson might not be good but went back and watched every goal. Yeah maybe 1 is on him cause he fell at the beginning but Olofsson blew that play.
1st Goal- McDavid comes around the net, Bryson is actually covering a guy in front as Dahlin is caught below the dot to the side of the net. Bryson breaks off his guy to try and stop McDavid from coming around which he does and as McDavid throws it out front it goes of Anderson's stick and into the net.
2nd Goal- Bryson fell, but Krebs had a chance along the boards and missed. Then Olofsson goes to stick check the D just above the faceoff Circle and misses and the pass goes right between his legs and bounces of Girgensons who is laying on the ice after being tripped and goes to Draistal who proceeds to shot and hits Bryson's skate who again is taking a man in front. Bounces of Bryson's skate right to Hyman wide open in the slot because Girgensons is still laying on the ice and Olofsson is still standing at the Blueline.
3rd Goal- Horrible play by Dahlin along the Boards allowing that chip past him and Skinner's poke check to McDavid allowing him to fly into the zone, maybe Bryson could have came over harder with his stick, but Anderson can't let that go in either.
Bryson might not be good, but he was hung out to dry on a couple of those goals.

To me there's just no use complaining about Bryson. I think every poster on this board recognizes he is a 8/9 defender. Depth for a long playoffs where you're guranteed to lose at least one defender because they're blocking shots constantly and getting staph infections.
He's a fast skater. He's is well below average everywhere else. Is he, literally, the smallest defenseman in the NHL? It is so noticeable how undersized he is every game.

You don't ever want him in the lineup for more than one game at a time.

1) Sign Johnson,
2) Trade for a 2RhD for Power

Only confusing thing to me now is where then does Stillman slot?
I could see Adam's holding off on that trade to see what Johnson brings first. Try him at 3LhD (Stillman replacement) or at 2RhD (Joker replacement)
They could rotate him at each for awhile.

ESPN is total bullpoop. Never show games on their “network” flagship station. Total bullpoop the League allows them to blackout local broadcasts, for a game only available streaming. At least it should be on cable broadcast ESPN (uno or dos) if they’re gonna block local broadcasts. It’s bullpoop, imo

The exclusive ESPN+ games, or the ones ESPN produces themselves, are not blacked out locally. Only the games where they pick up the local feeds. This was no different than Center Ice.

When the Panthers have been on Hulu/ESPN+ this season it’s been a local broadcast black out here. Idk, Panthers local showed every game in the past, except for when NBCsports (rarely) had them on national broadcast. At least the Panthers’ radio guy is pretty damn good...

To further expand the ESPN/ESPN+ thing.

ESPN pays the NFL $2.7 billion per year for its TV package. https://www.sportingnews....z4rlycwog3jz1f6pqdqoegbxf

It pays $1.4 billion per year for the NBA. https://www.sportsmediawa...-2025-24-billion-lockout/

It pays $560 million/year for Major League Baseball, but only shows roughly 30-40 games per year. https://www.sportsmediawa...games-expanded-wild-card/

It pays the NHL roughly $400 million per year. And that includes essentially being "NHL Center Ice" as well. https://www.nytimes.com/2...ckey-nhl-espn-disney.html

So if I'm ESPN, knowing there's only so much airtime on ESPN and ESPN2, which product am I going to bump to the streaming platform? Considering that the NHL lags far behind the other 3 in viewership in the first place, the answer is ridiculously easy. This is not ESPN's problem. It's the NHL's problem for not making a product people want to watch.

There are games where local networks pick up the feed despite them being picked up by a national broadcast partner, either Turner or ESPN. That's been the case since the 1980's. However, if the local network isn't picking it up, it's not blacked out.

Why would ESPN even want to be involved if they’re not even going to try and improve those viewership numbers by better promoting the product they’ve now invested in?

Both ESPN and the NHL went into that deal knowing that it had a massive emphasis on streaming, more than any sports TV deal in history. ESPN didn't sign it to try to increase viewership on the main channels. They signed it to attempt to get more subscribers to ESPN+, hence the deal to essentially become NHL Center Ice. Hockey fans are a cult, and the entire sports world knows it. They're going to go to whatever platform gets them their fix. The running joke is that there are 18,000 hockey fans in every city, and they're all season ticket holders.

Michael Kay was on First Take yesterday with Stephen A. Smith and Molly Querim. He was asked, "which New York sports team is going to win a championship next". When Michael Kay responded "The Rangers", the other two responded "they don't count". That's what ESPN still thinks of hockey. They look at that deal like picking up irrelevant college sports championships on ESPNU, not a major sport TV people want to watch.

Why would they use their resources to boost someone else's product? They give an outlet for those who want to watch and we cant ask for anything more than that.

Without ESPN + id never get to see my college play any sports, but with espn+ I can watch every single game of any sport.

If anything ID like to see them but more networks. It was nice they have hockey east so I can watch Levi but Id also have liked to watch more Michigan games the last few years.

I would actually say their nhl broadcast team does better pregame and intermission than most nights

I agree. I found it odd that there was no pre-game show last night, though.

Also, I know Sean McDonaugh is the main play-by-play guy with Ray Ferraro, and I don't particularly mind him, but Steve Levy and John Buccigross need to switch roles. I love Buccigross's enthusiasm for the game, but it does not translate well for play-by-play.

I know I wasn't saying this in the Fall, but Mitts has turned into an excellent NHL player. Thought he had one of his best games of the year tonight and got robbed by Skinner at least twice. Casey might be one of the best guys on the team on the wall with the puck or cycling in the corners. Hope he ends up sticking around and I can't believe he'll put up 50 points this season. Perfect 3rd liner that can play up in a pinch and contribute on PP 2.

I'm a hard critic but he's fine as a 3rd line guy. I'll keep him over VO

I was in the minority when I said I didn't want Greenway here.

But give the kid a (frank)ing chance. 20 games with this team should give you an idea of what he can actually provide.

For all the new Casey lovers, how long did he take. 30 games?
