It would be great if the teams and leagues were sincere about them and other themes they spousal support and did not use them as political ploys and pure marketing.

Someone brought up National anthems. I have read for example, that the NFL, aka by some as the no fun league, did not originally play the national anthem before its games. The teams therein only started to do so after they were paid to by the recruitment arms of the armed forces to play the anthem. That is patriotism for you! Honor only after honorariums. In my opinion, the owners and administrators of any of the major leagues (for the most part; there are always exceptions) don’t care about anything other than money and winning, and as long as they are taking your money, winning doesn’t really ultimately matter either. Especially in these tax-free, “non-profit” leagues what else is there be to be concerned about.

By "theme nights", I mean all the human interest ones. As Ray said, they tend to get political in nature, and you can't make everyone (read anyone) happy. 99.9% of it is all grandstanding anyway. Take the jersey auctions, for example. The majority of the donated funds don't come from the team, who in most cases is in the best financial position. They come from the ticket holders/fans who buy them.

is it just me? The other night watching McDavids goals ..... they just were not what I call Spectacular goals. In fact I felt that both goals were very stoppable if Andersen was on the ball.... Any thoughts?

The second goal for sure but I do think that there are few players who could have delivered that shot in what I think was the elusive way that McDavid handles the puck. I don’t understand why goaltenders do not slide their sticks actually upon the ice between their legs as they move from side to side. Probably would have kept that goal from going in. McDavid just slid the pick where the stick should have been. Easy goal for a smart player.

The first one, to me, was more of the defense not playing good defense together with the quick thinking and speed of McDavid to make that move around the net.

UPL outplayed their goaltender last night... For Gods sake they had 50 shots on him... The sabres allowed the Islanders to stand around his net all game...
