Come on 89.... you better then that. Even though the Islanders were the better team yesterday you hate to lose on a goal that IMO should not have counted.

Plus goals are always at a premium when you play a trap team. hell The islanders are tied for 6th GA.

If he turned his skate yes not a goal but he turned his leg from what I seen and it went off his leg.

This is the most invested I have been in sabres hockey in like 10 years, that play you are talking about I wanted to throw my phone at the TV.

wide open for a shot and passes to literally NOBODY. I would of stapled his ass to the bench right then and there.

- hehateme

And then hes back out on the ice on the top line next shift.

Donnie does some great things and some utterly stoopid things.

78.5, states a goal should be disallowed "when the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick. When this occurs, if it is deemed to be done deliberately, then the decision shall be NO GOAL.

Now if he just tuns his leg and it "Deflects" into the net, Good Goal. But he clear lifts leg, Turns leg and sticks leg out to Direct the puck into he net. should of been no goal IMO.

If he clearly just turns his leg the puck would of never hit his shin pad he had to kick his leg out in order for that to happen.

If you score goals and stop making mistakes you don't have to blame the refs or rules on not winning.
- SABRES 89

Or get outworked by a trap team in your own zone.

Can't we just watch the game to see who played well and who didn't?
- rapperray

You can. I don’t mind learning more about the game or how to evaluate their players.

He took his hand off his stick turned both his leg and foot and had them off the ice moving towards the net.

he had no intention of even using his stick.

Refs called it a no-goal and rightfully so.

You can't intentionally use any body part to bat the puck in the net.

But thats their game.... Hard nosed grinding offense

Just cause they play a trap D doesn't mean they have nothing to offer on Offense

They play hard and get a ton of greasy goals, we play soft and get "pretty" goals, we need to take a page from the islanders book and start getting some greasy goals.

The metrics that make up the defense numbers for Evolving Hockey are based on the game by game data available to the public by the NHL.

They heavily rely on shot, shot location, and shooter accuracy to make up the numbers you see.

Example: when Dahlin is on the ice, there are less high danger chances and more shots further away from the net then when Power is on the ice.

I don't believe the publicly available game data includes full puck retrieval or outlet passing information.

That's a big hole in the data.

- kingcong39

Thank you. Helpful but does not make me feel more comfortable about the ultimate reliability of those numbers. Still, always good to learn something.

"Or get outworked by a trap team in your own zone"

You said everything about it. Implying the Islanders shouldn't score ever cause they play a trap D.

Their whole game is out working the other team

Exactly Homie... They gave very little effort for most of this game. They played good for maybe 5 minutes
- rapperray

They didn't give little effort. They gave effort to trying to constantly skate through three people...even on Cozens goal.

They refused to dump or chip pucks all night, and, as a result, they turned the puck over to the Islanders constantly at the Islanders blueline...just like Krebs did before the Isles rushed the puck back into our zone, cycled it, caught a weak clearing attempt by Krebs (again), and then deposited it in the net for their 2nd goal. Lots of effort by us, all directed improperly.

Trap or not, islanders are built with nhl veteran players.

Tough to go on the road and win a game when you're the youngest team in the league.

You just cant force guys to get older, it happens naturally.

The trap might be something the coach needs to work on at practice. How to deal with the trap.

Tough having back to backs and no practice time between games....

They’d need to win 6-7 in a row at this point.

It’s about over

Not only did they refuse to dump and chase and pound.

They wouldn't fvcking shoot when they had opportunities.

Beating the trap is not rocket science, especially with speed the players have these days.

Soft chip into the corner and go get it.

Trying to skate through a wall on the blue line is not the way. My 9 year old daughter knows this. Chip it and go get it. This isn't something that needs to be practiced. A simple adjustment on the bench is all that is needed, not a days worth of practice.

Like I said, score goals and win the game. Did we score after that goal ? no we didn't .
