If sports leagues abandoned "theme" nights altogether, I wouldn't shed a tear, and that includes the "easy" ones like Military Appreciation and Hockey Fights Cancer.
- buffalofan19

I agree and go one further.

Abandon national anthems too.

Couldn't agree more... Many of these Theme Nights are political in nature and have no place in sports..

I am still po'd about the wining goal last night. How in the fook that is not a distinct kicking motion is beyond me.

He lifted u is leg off the ice moved it forward (ie kicking) and the puck went in direct as a result of that motion,

Someone please tell me Im not crazy.

Welcome to buffalo sports where every questionable call goes against.

Both the nfl and nhl are blatantly against buffalo. Many wont accept it because it'll ruin their imaginary belief that sports aren't rigged.

It's the buisness side of sports that most seem to be unaware of or ignore.

By "theme nights", I mean all the human interest ones. As Ray said, they tend to get political in nature, and you can't make everyone (read anyone) happy. 99.9% of it is all grandstanding anyway. Take the jersey auctions, for example. The majority of the donated funds don't come from the team, who in most cases is in the best financial position. They come from the ticket holders/fans who buy them.

is it just me? The other night watching McDavids goals ..... they just were not what I call Spectacular goals. In fact I felt that both goals were very stoppable if Andersen was on the ball.... Any thoughts?

Military appreciation has become just as political as any other human interest "theme" out there. It shouldn't be, but it has. The bigger problem is that there's no clear line to be drawn. You can't get rid of one without seeming like a hypocrite for keeping another. I've always had an issue with the "shaming" of people who don't participate in a certain cause. The problem with the Ivan Provorov thing wasn't so much his religious freedom, though that is a big part of it. It's the fact that society feels the right to demand that a certain person take part in a cause that isn't important to him, let alone one he opposes. And that goes for anything: LGBT, cancer, or saving the whales.

Quite frankly... All of them... Just go out there and play hockey... No pink skates, no special mentions... Get out there and play...

At the very least, ban the visiting team's anthem.

I'm not going to be offended if they don't play O' Canada when the Leafs visit Dallas.

Rule 49.2: A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who uses a distinct kicking motion to propel the puck into the net with his skate/foot. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks a puck that deflects into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official.

Off the shinpad, no?

is it political for the Sabres to recognize a member of the military and have the crowd stand and cheer for that person?

These men and woman deserve all the respect and gratitude from all of us, they are the ones risking their lives every day fighting for our futures and to be able to attend a stupid sporting event. the least we can do is celebrate them.

Good lord.

Yes, it’s very political.

If you don’t think for a second that if the Sabres knew that military appreciation nights were hurting their bottom line that they wouldn’t cut them, you are sadly mistaken.

It’s all fake.

No.

You realize that if it was “fixed” you’d have lawsuits left and right?

If it was fixed don’t you think each league would have “given” Buffalo a championship by now.

Yelling sports are fixed is no different than yelling the earth is flat.
