If it's $5mx7yrs I am out. If it's $4.5x4 I can see it. Frontload the actual dollars so you can get out of it in a couple years by unloading him to "another budget team." Not necessarily because he won't live up to it, moreso in case the plethora of prospects they have come to fruition to replace him and improve.

I’m fine with a 2-3 year deal that takes him right to UFA to be honest

Gives the Sabres time to figure out Savoie/Rosen/Ostlund, none of which will be top 6 NHL regulars before 24-25 season anyways.

Also does Mitts a favor to be able to cash in as a younger UFA

Sabres are above the cap floor for next season with 10F, 7D, 2G.

Unfortunately for the clown, there shouldn't be any more Ben Bishop's.

Yep Greenway pushed us over.

Giving Mitts a 7 year contract based on his half year of good play would be mind numbing.

If he carries this into next season, perhaps he gets a 4x4.5 mid season extension.

- TheSabresTaco

Amen, if adams gives him 7 or 8 years I'll have the stake saturated in gasoline. IMO

What if Adams offered him Samuelsson's contract. And Mitts said yes. Would you do it ?

I would hope not. They did give a guy a 7yr extension with only a few nhl games experience last summer though.

Can't believe Geno got that contract 3yrs 105m. Money is nothing in the NFL

I'm not down with the jets and Rodgers.... any cost

Guy just won the mvp a season ago.

Jets have a legit d, talent on offense.

Anyone wanting this to happen is crazy. Bill's fans anyways.

Me neither, I don't want Lamar going there either. Guy was having a good year last year before the injuries.

I don’t see him getting over 4.5-5 mil, which for this level of play is perfectly fine

If they end up swapping him for a young D, great, that’s fine.

But we’re a cap floor team who just got big bargains on their top 2 C’s and people are so obsessed with his next contract because they made up their minds about him two years ago so any excuse to move him is what they will argue

And I don’t mean to single out 39, because it’s a lot of people

- sbroads24

Flip side is that the front office made a decision that he isn't a long term piece when they drafted 4 1st round F's, then just reaffirmed by telling us they wouldn't consider moving them.

Have to trade an F for a D soon. Just of a matter of who and when. Everything KA has done and said says VO and Mitts are top of their list. Playing well makes that trade a lot easier to make.

Labanc and Pius Suter could be cool ideas for the 4th line next year. Not sure if they're the battlers that we're looking for, but they're highly responsible.

we would have had 6.7 for a forward instead of vinny

or 7.7 for a d man instead of lyubushkin

or 6.8 for a goalie instead of comrie

to be that floor team w/o bishop

and probably safely in the top 8 for the east right now

Imagine trevor Lawrence instead of wilson.....

I really like your thoughts on mitts. I could see a long term lower Avr similar to samuelsson.
Mitts is a core vibes guy...

Tells you what they really expected from this team this year.

We're in the middle of a rebuild of a team who didn't need it, and now they are confused.
