Well there are 4 teams within 3 points of us for the final playoff spot. The absolute worst thing that could happen for the Pens is just squeaking in and playing Boston in the first round.

To that same effect, we are only 6 point ahead of Detroit to get a lottery pick ball that could get us Bedard. I'd rather lose 18 of our next 20, get a good draft pick this year and ensure there is no chance Hextall stays than us finishing 8th in the east.

- MacPatty

I honestly think Sullivan kicks the can rather than Hextall if that downfall happened. Drafting Bedard would be an absolute miracle, but his wingers are Carter and Granlund next year? Poor guy…

Kulikov can be Sulivan's Swiss army knife for the defense. Unless Dumoulin or Pettersson has a nagging injury that needs some rest. I sit POJ for the next game, CBJ, and slot Kulikov with Rutta. Just for one game.

He was definitely the most exciting pick up this deadline for me. I liked him in Minnesota and I feel he brings a Friedman type of element to the lineup without being too over the top. Plus I was happy to get rid of that McGinn contract for the next few years.

Starting in 2022, a team can move up a maximum of 10 spots, making only 11 of the 16 teams who miss the playoffs eligible for the first overall pick

Ew… I had him at 4. I can’t see how he gets 6 with the string of injuries. Didn’t they learn from Matt Murray?
- drummer829

I'd be surprised if Jarry got less than 5. Might even get 6. I'm not sure who the Pens other options are. Though I'd have the same misgivings about his injuries, I think that's where you upgrade the backup.

I think Jarry has a lot of leverage with hte Pens. Pay me 5-6 or go find someone else. Not sure what would be available.

Yeah, thats why I said I hope we finish off bad enough that we have the 11th worst record (worse than Detroit). Hell though, I'd take a top 10 pick over 1st round humiliation.

I have been a really big Sullivan supporter. His biggest problem is that he absolutely refuses to help young guys develop. If he had been the Pens coach while he was coming up through the minors we would have never seen him.

Teams that are successful have young guys coming out of nowhere and being impact players. When's the last time the Pens have done that? His downfall will come when the Pens start to retool with younger players.

I feel like Marino before the extension, Guentzel, and Rust were players that we had which made us better as a team. Now they are trying to bury the players like this it is more evident at the deadline. POJ, Friedman, Smith, Nylander, Puustinen, and Hallander these players are all getting held back. I'm not suggesting top roles for the players in the lineup, but you are gonna tell me they aren't better than what we had on the 3rd line?

I feel it all started getting botched with Carter being signed! We had Rodriguez who would have been at least a younger center on the 3rd line. I honestly don't get it.

Yea Carter definitely should have not been Hextended. But idk if we even have young guys to play the bottom 6. I like DOC when he plays confident, and I'd like to see Puustinen. We gotta get lucky with a guy this draft, because we haven't hit anything in like 6 years.

I've been saying this for a couple of years. The formula that got Sullivan his two cups was abandoned for some reason. Could have signed an impact player and relied on a cheap contract or two from the minors to fill out the roster.

Both of my pugs are so low maintenance lol even when I was in an apartment, walking Hektor was a breeze. Didn’t have to be a long walk at all. Other than that he just sleeps all day haha

Yes. He had back to back games with a goal followed by a hat trick earlier this season.

Why do you ask?

DOC recalled.

Too much complaining about the future going on... When the future is not guaranteed in any shape or form. In the present? They're back to playing solid hockey and have slightly upgraded the team this season. I'm going to try and enjoy that and not worry about next season
... that could include a swavy GM for all we know today.

Once again, no, I don't think they're contenders... But as I have said all season I think they're a good team.

- MattStrat

They're a decent team that can contend for a wild card. The window is officially closed, sadly. It would take some crazy luck to advance past the first round.

Yeah the top two teams are insanely good. Bruins are playing in an alternate dimension or some sh!t, could break the record for best regular season ever..nuts...Pens schedule is pretty good from here on, there's a lot of games but the competition isn't too crazy. They also have 3 games left vs the Rangers, who they have a game in hand on, who've now lost 4 or 5 in a row and they trail them by 8 points. Small chance they could pass them in standings for 3rd....then play the Devils...the 3rd overall team in the league behind the Canes and Bruins hahaha...so yeah, any way you slice it the 1st round for the Pens would be extremely hard.

An in-sync gelling team working really hard with some puck luck can take anyone out. I wouldnt bet on the Pens though hahaha

I could see them beating the Rangers. I remember when the Rangers tried to load with Lindros, Fleury, Bure, and Holik, and failed to even make the playoffs. I have a feeling something similar awaits them this year.

And hey the Pens won a Cup while using Ron Hainsey as their #1 defenseman so...anything is possible, I guess.
