DOC recalled.
Too much complaining about the future going on... When the future is not guaranteed in any shape or form. In the present? They're back to playing solid hockey and have slightly upgraded the team this season. I'm going to try and enjoy that and not worry about next season
... that could include a swavy GM for all we know today.
Once again, no, I don't think they're contenders... But as I have said all season I think they're a good team. - MattStrat
Pretend you're the savvy coach, how would you deploy tonight's line up? |

Probably how I would do it at first. I would also mix and match the bottom six throughout the game. But this would be my go to set.
Who do you dress on defense? The right side is set. Kulikov probably doesn't play today. I give him a practice at home, but I play him in the next game against Columbus. |

That's what I'd do too.
With DOC we are back to 8 under 30, but half those: Heinen, DOC, POJ, and Poehling are bottom of the roster players that get limited ice time. Rackell is 2 months from 30 himself, leaving only Jarry (if he stays), Pettersson, and Guentzel as returning players in significant roles under 30.
So many players that could have a Dumo or Carter decline in a year. |

Hopefully the Fenway group hires Jonah Hill to moneyball the heck out of the Pens. |

I guess there isn't too much to argue about here. The only line I would set in stone is the Crosby line. At this point I would be more inclined to drop Rust than to promote him.
I wouldn't marry a LW to a C, like Sullivan likes to do. Everyone would be fluid. I would keep the LW's at LW, the C's at C and the RW's at RW.
No thoughts on the defense? |

Jesse Marshall on The Fan this morning. While he acknowledged the obvious, these weren't game changing moves, he didn't hate any of the new players. He said Bones is almost the same player that left. A little less jump, but still pretty good at all the things we need out of that role. |

Nick Bonino is a really good 4C for us right now. I like getting out of the McGinn contract a lot. If Granlund were a rental I’d be fine with it but this offseason is going to absolutely suck with that contract in our books. |

Think of Granlund as a 2 year 10 million dollar signing in the offseason
This team doesn't attract premium FA's.... We get the Brock McGinns and the Brandon Tanev's, and we have to overpay to get them here

I was messing around with cap friendly.
Resigned Zucker for 4m, signed Bertuzzi for 5.5m, poehling 2m, then resigned some other RFAs:
Guentzel-Crosby-Rakell
Bertuzzi-Malkin-Rust
Zucker-Granlund-Poehling
DOC-Carter-???
Pettersson-Letang
POJ-Petry
Ruutta-Smith
Ruhwedel
Jarry
Desmith
This leaves 2.7m in cap space, but still needs at least 2 more contracts. Those could probably be filled from guys in the AHL. Probably a little low on Zucker and Bertuzzi. But point is the team has SOME wiggle room next year. Could have more if they’re able to get out of Carters contract and resign Bonino for 2.5ish if he fits well

What did you pay Jarry? Rumored to want 6x6. |

Ew… I had him at 4. I can’t see how he gets 6 with the string of injuries. Didn’t they learn from Matt Murray? |

Pretty high event first so far...if you consider missed passes, fumbled pucks and turnovers events. |
