Buffalo, New Jersey, and Carolina rank 32,31, and 30th in hits thrown this year.

Tampa in the last 48 hours have lost by a combined score of 11-3 to two of those teams.

You seem like a smart guy, hard to understand why it is so hard for you to grasp the concept of toughness that people speak of. No one says they win because of high hit count, or whatever you always seem to try and twist it into. They only mean it is a characteristic of a winning team. That’s all, a PART of the makeup of a winning team. Not everything can be laid out and parsed on a spread sheet, but it doesn’t make those aspects irrelevant. TB didn’t win poop til they got some gritty grinding types guys, who could actually play the game well. Remember their third line?

Nuances, dude.

Was never much of a Derek Plante fan, but really liked Brad May. I never looked at him the same after this though.
- SoCalPucks

I saw an interview years later, may apologized right after the game and said something to the degree that plante was one of his best friends and he just overcome with emotions during the game.

Definitely no reason to go after plante though, no excuse.

Some of the pressure might come off because Quinn is secretly Mark Stone lite. It's actually kinda wild how polished he is in the NZ/DZ.

I still think they need one more 200 ft player, but this is a pleasant surprise.

- Michael Ghofrani

Interesting. I am getting Jake Guentzel 2.0 but I'll take Stone for sure.

Boy, slim picks for RD in the UFA pool coming up this summer.
RhD UFA's playing 2nd Line + minutes are:
Severson
Dumba
Holl
Mayfield
Graves
Klinger

I'm not a big fan of high profile players at UFA time as it seems massive overpayment with long terms are the norm, who wants to pay guys un5il they are 35+
Hopefully the FO laid the groundwork for a trade during all the listening Adams did at the TDL.

It was rumored Seattle was dangling Borgan. Wonder if a deal can be made to bring him back.

Dahlin. Samuelsson
Power. Borgen
Stiller. Boosh.

Yeah, if I had a dollar for every time I heard that the Leafs needed to get “tougher” come playoff time only to lose a playoff series because they couldn’t score enough goals I’d be rich.
- Swedish_Jesus

When things aren’t going well, especially in the playoffs, having a line like the Isles 4th line or the bottom 6’s of quite a few cup teams recently that can dictate some physicality and change the pace of the game is important.

It’s not about counting hits

It is never a bad thing to have players that can win battles on the boards and in front of the net. Willingness to outwork opponents is a big part of overall physicality as well

I dont actually think the team is soft, we certainly dont lack size and there is willingness to engage but they are young. Dahlin shouldn't be trying to run a guy on the PP with a chance to bury them

I love the way dahlin plays and think he's the future captain but if Greenway comes in and can help them focus a little less on all of that it can only help

No, they scored franking goals.

They beat Tampa Bay by scoring 5 goals yesterday and 6 in the previous meeting.

The game they lost in OT earlier in the year they choked away a third period lead, if anything, because of over assertiveness and putting quite possibly the worst PK I’ve ever seen on the ice too often in the third period-and the Lightning made them pay.

The “scummy” lightning are on a 4 game losing streak ? Why, you ask ? Because they have been giving up goals left right and Center.

Taco explained why the Lightning are conceding more goals this year, but none of you want to hear it.

The Lightning won Stanley Cups because they have 5 franking Hall of Famers on the ice in their primes.

Colorado was one of the softest teams in the league last year but that didn’t matter much did it ?

You can be good defensively without being physical. I don’t see Bergeron running around throwing hits very often but name me a better 200 foot player this league has ever seen ?

Life is only as hard as you make it out to be.

Girgs, Jost , Rousek would be a great 4th line.

Pretty sure girgs is a lock for a contract extension here. Wow I cant believe he is only 29!! Feels like he is a 20 year vet

Some interesting backreading.

Always funny when a Sabre move or two causes someone to have a break with reality.

In two short weeks, the Leafs and the Sabres went grit, grit, grit at the dealine. The two teams we've been assured by the expected awesome crowd are the best analytics teams in the NHL. And, to make it worse, Tampa saw the Leafs moves and went even grittier if possible.

Pegs may never recover.

Yeah, but what is Borgen paying you for that, and has Joker given his consent? Also, this is a hockey site, not some trashy flop house.

Something to watch in Tampa.

Their top line gets benched against us for the 3rd period. They respond by losing 6 - 0 to Carolina the next day. They recorded 4 shots on goal in the first period and a stunning 0 shots on goal in the 2nd. There's a lot of ego in that room. I wonder if some future HoFer or three have hurt pee pees.

No doubt they figure it out by playoffs, but all good things come to an end at some point.

On March 6th, 1988 the Buffalo Sabres beat the Boston Bruins 3 - 0. Tom Barrasso had his final shutout as a Buffalo Sabre. Phil Housley scored his 27th of the year in that game, and Pierre Turgeon added his 13th of the season. The story of the game was penalties, and there were some beauties in this game.

65 pims total
Jay Miller and Lyndon Byers each received instigator penalties
Ken Priestly got a 5 minute butt ending call

it's funny seeing like really old poop of health and diet practices and we sit here today saying what a bunch of (frank)ing dopes, meanwhile in 50 years we're going to be doing the same poop, looking back at today and wondering how the (frank) we're still alive.

50 might be generous but the point remains.

I really want to see it happen, and I want to say yes...but there are a lot of tough games coming up. Does he step up and get this team into the playoffs or at least keep us in it to the bitter end?

The Sabres need him big time down the stretch.
