He (Naslund) also was a winger who benefited from Bertuzzi developing into a Cam Neely-type power forward and Morrison being the puck distributing defensively good center. I suspect had Bertuzzi not turned into what he did, Naslund wouldn't be as good as he was. Bertuzzi created all the space Naslund needed to get his wrist shot off and pick the corners while Morrison played interference and distributed the puck. - DariusKnight
Thats right... my mistake. He was a winger... |

I think if the Canucks didn't have OEL they'd more be one top 4 D away from competing.
They've got a star center or 2 and a star LHD as well as a top goalie. If things go their way and they play with structure they should be top 3 in the pacific. - Pres.cup
Who knows. They started the season with a better team than they have now and it really flopped. Now they removed a 35-40 goal scoring center. As usual, it will come down to whether Demko plays like a world class goalie or not.

Draft and summer yet to go. |

I’m thinking about adopting a second team since this organization has been a tire fire for 12 seasons now and unless they get Bedard this year, it’ll be another 12 before they’re competitive again. Who would be a good choice? Edmonton?, NYR? |

Watching benson verses bedard on tsn, benson looks pretty good, I wouldn’t be upset if we picked him. |

Dreger alluded to Hextall offering Pickering, a 1st and a second + cap dump to the Canucks.
Allvin said it was a good offer, but it doesn’t help them turn this thing around for next year and they’re not interested in rebuilding |

Don’t you think it would make more sense to draft a D-man that is about the 25th best in this draft stacked with elite forwards? At 5th overall.. when there could be 3-4 franchise forwards available.
Lots of fans here want that
Seriously though it should go:
Bedard
Fantilli
Michkov
Carlsson
Yager
Bensen
Those are a generational player and 5 franchise changing players. Can’t miss draft picks… if you’re dumb enough to piss away one of those picks for a 2nd pairing defenseman around 25th overall… you deserve the mediocrity a monumental drafting mistake like that would make. That’s Joulevi2.0, that’s drafting Virtanen in the top 10 kind of mistake. |

Yes it was JTM that they were trying to get and apparently it was close according to a couple of “insiders”. |

I just hate cheering for my team to lose and I know that they won’t be competitive for at least another 5 years. |

Horvat is far better at this stage then Hronek but having an actual top 4, maybe even top pairing, RHD will have more impact on the overall team play.
Pettersson is a better 2way center then Horvat except faceoffs and Miller is still performing at an elite level for a couple more seasons.
They need to try to overcome the intellectual failings of past managers and push to compete now before miller's contract becomes an anchor and Pettersson/Hughes/Demko ask for trades. |

Yeah the way he repeated his answer seemed like it was tiptoeing the real answer, but Hextal also repeated he is not giving up first round picks and sacrificing the future. The truth is probably somewhere in between.

Miller has already taken a step back from last season. Will he take another step back next season? I wouldn't be quick to claim he should be elite for a couple of seasons. He had one big break out season then a step back. Both Petey and Horvat are having better seasons than Miller and they are better defensive players as well... I don't see elite coming out of him this season.
I would understand the rush and short cuts to maximize the years of this young core if it were showing signs of being a very competitive team who can compete for a cup down the road.... but we are concerned that a core that is 6th last in the NHL might not want to stick around in a couple of seasons and it sure doesn't sound like a loss of what could have been to me....
This management could of been farther ahead but they sat on their hands through their first TDL, then didnt make moves again around draft day... then invested heavily on Miller/Boeser and UFA's causing more cap issues. Followed by changing gears once again mid season... they have been going in circles since they arrived. I'm not at all convinced they will pick one direction yet. |

Come join me and start cheering for the team to win games. A nice 15 game heater, to close out the season should help with team chemistry and confidence for next season.
It might even help management see just how close they are to being near the top of the bubble group, so a few key off-season additions and the team is even closer.
This tanking stuff is for losers, the Canucks are way better off accumulating some wins now and picking in the 11-16range, than they are being losers and not trying to improve systems play and comradery, with the new players
Go Canucks Go. |
