Brock Mcginn going to Anaheim. Have to think we gave up a draft pick as well. |
|
|
|
Exactly what I was thinking. Kulikov replaces Pettersson? - drummer829
I hope not. That would be a massive downgrade. |

Ok I guess I’d rather have Kulikov expiring than McGinn so this trade makes more sense now. |

I mean, LD Ty Smith is waiting too.... I rrrreally don't want to lose Petts but Smith has shown he can play at NHL level and he's already in house...could be what Hex is thinking.. - MattStrat
The real problem is does that mean we have to sign back Dumoulin because Smith can't replace both. |

No. He’s an over the hill defensive d man who who’s wat overdeployed. Best case scenario for him with us is that he’s like Gudbranson and can be competent on the third pairing. - Victoro311
Damn... Why do that? I really don't know the player much.

We’re probably doing that regardless. |

Dumo-petts-kulikov left side is devoid of all offensive talent… and more blocking smith. |

Dear goodness it’s blatantly obvious Hextall is just making stuff up on the fly here. |

Meh? We got a third for Teddy... not a horrid price for dumping 3 years of a near 3 mil dead weight player |

No this one I actually get. This dumps off Brock McGinn for an expiring contract and gets some semblance of cap flexibility next summer. Probably won’t matter much with the Granlund contract over our heads but this one technically makes sense. |

We can’t not have a LD in his 30’s on the roster…I’m sure Hextall is pissed he can’t give him a 35+ contract. |

Now send a 3rd to get rid of Carter. Make a move for a top 9 winger
Heinen-Granlund-Zucker, or some sort of iteration of that |

can’t see how this deal couldn’t have happened weeks ago though |

So we traded Teddy and Brock for Kuli... whatever the (frank) his name is that expires this year is how I am going to view this trade. Still meh? |

I actually like this trade. If the 3rd rounder is the pick we got for Blueger, we essentially got rid of 2 players that werent helping (besides Blueger on the PK) and got rid of 2 years of McGinn and it cost us nothing.
One of the most important things for a GM to do is admit when they are wrong and move on. Hextall doing that with Kapanen and McGinn is a good start. |

As it stands right now, this is a great trade. In the worst case scenario he is a 3/4 LD and saved us McGinns cap hit for the next few years (not concerned about the 3rd).
But the reality is this deal seems to set up us making another trade involving a LD. Pettersson seems like the obvious one but I actually think POJ could be the guy going out the door if a bigger deal is going to happen.

I dont really care about the Bonino trade. It was for late round picks so whatever. I was hoping he was better at faceoffs and then I could see the rationale, but maybe he is a specialist for left or right faceoffs?
The Kulikov trade is the high reward/low risk trade I was talking about. He was actually a solid player before Anaheim acquired him. His numbers are ugly this year, but I hope that's more of a result of him being on the Ducks than anything. If he doesnt regain form, he leaves at the end of the year and we rid ourselves of McGinn. That's worst case and Im fine with it |

One of the insiders mentioned JVR and a couple of teams, but the Penguins werent one of them. So hopefully that doesnt happen. |

I think this is where Hextall needs to hit a home run on a top 6 player, JT Miller being the dream. If you add Miller, slot him in on Malkin's left wing and slide Zucker down to play with Carter and Granlund. They have history and if Carter is the worst player on the 3rd line instead of the best, I think that could be a great 3rd line.
I hope Ron pulls something off here and makes everyone (myself and every Pens reporter included) eat poop.

Man... Don't ruin my day.
I want 3pm to get here so Hexy can't do any damage. Same way I used to feel about Rutherford in his last days here.
Man this team is old lol.

Still think he should be fired tomorrow for waiting until the 11th hour. |

The #habs are playing third-party broker in the Nick Bonino trade between SJ/PIT. They get a fifth-round draft pick for the trouble. |

It's does kind of seem like this could be the plan. Although at same time it all seems like Hex has no plan. Not much time left either |
