I agree with 1...but regarding 2...if there's a 3rd team involved ...is it possible Bonino is having 75% of his cap hit retained? haha..if so, he's not expensive at all. - MattStrat
Point 2 was more in regards to Granlund, not Bones.

Mate, you vastly overestimate how much JT Miller is valued given that disaster of a contract he just signed. - SuperHenderson13
Mate I think you vastly misunderstand how valuable PPG 1C, who can play in all situations are. Given the fact that Crosby and Malkin are on the wrong side of the 30 and there’s absolutely zero in the pipeline - the disastrous contract you speak of is completely normally - the final 3 years sure - every team has 2-3 of these type of deals.
Miller is still playing at a very high level on a very bad team. A couple late 1st round picks isn’t gonna sway the team to walk away from him |

I'm confused because in the last blog, or one before last, RW was saying a big no thanks to a "panic move" for JT.
I would of loved me some JT. - MattStrat
Because when it comes down to JT Miller, a PPG player vs. Granlund, an allergic to goals player, both on contracts with term, the choice is easy. It's JT Miller all day.

^^This. Who gives a poop what happens in years 5-7 when Sid and Geno are in their wheelchairs. If he is even remotely close to a PPG in the first 4 years of that contract, it would have been worth it for the Pens.

Yea I'm all in for JT, that would make a pretty damn good third line this year. And like you said he's the Zucker replacement next year. |

I dont follow the news close enough so maybe the fans can tell me. Why is management riding the fence on "one last ride" and rebuilding? Why re sign the vets last year if they weren't going to push for playoffs?
Letang/Crosby/malkin aren't getting younger next year. |

I assumed when he Pens hired Hextall it was to slowly tear it down and create cap space and add picks. Not sure why they hired him to keep going for it. - rayc16
Because when you have Sid, Geno, and Letang still playing at high levels, you keep going for it until they retire, then rebuild.

I agree with you, Miller would be a great acquisition for the Penguins as I, along with many others here, have said for the last week. But they are one of the few teams that it would make sense for. I couldnt careless what happens after 3-4 years. This team will be terrible after our core retires, everyone here is ready for it. So am I willing to pay for a guy like Miller for those 3-4 years? Sure I am. Am I willing to overpay for a guy like that who himself will be 30 before his new contract even kicks in? No, and most teams wont either.
The fact Rutherford is even fielding offers for Miller after signing him to that extension tells you how he values him in the whole grand scheme of things.
