I dont know what's worse right now.

Soogard letting in a couple stinkers, but the defensive coverage is just atrocious.

It’s all about routine.
Sogard wasn’t supposed to start.

Chicago is a gutted team. Way, way too many odd man rushes allowed. By the numbers, Sens are on top of this game. Stalock is playing out of his mind, and Chicago is getting points out of multiple players who haven't scored in a zillion years. It's inexplicable, really. Unfortunate, certainly.

Tough to score when the other team has en elite defenceman.

So, we just have a good laugh and move on.

It was bound to happen.

Exactly. There was a bit of luck with timing but man it’s a stretch to call it all luck on this move. Every other team that was interested in Chychrun got impatient and decided to go another route. Could you imagine how pissed off we would all be if Dorion got impatient and acquired Ekholm or Parayko or Weegar just to fill the void and saw Chychrun traded to another team with a similar package that Ottawa gave up? Dorion knew he needed a d-man but addressed it the right way. He didn’t panic like so many other GMs did.

I have trouble remebering such a frustrating match. Ottawa had the puck way more, then the puck goes the other way and its a goal. Soogard let in some softies, but then made some big saves, because the defense let in rush after rush.

Despite the outshooting though, they never really looked that "dominant".

Like you said, hopefully just one of those games.

Hoping they use the small window of time off to regroup and come back hungry.

Yeah eh?.... I watched the first 10-15 mins and I was frustrated why the Sens couldn't take this game like a do or die. With that said this past week has been A LOT for the Sens. They won huge games against the Red Wings, frankly I didn't expect them to beat NYR.

I think they will bounce back but really playoffs don't matter to me that much compared to some other fans. It's how they play and which players step up. As much as I like Giroux, Hamonic, and Talbot - I'm not watching them. I want to see Stutzle, Sanderson, Brannstrom, Pinto, DeBrincat, Batherson, and Soogard start to make great strides or return to the top of their game. Playing against the Bruins in round 1 would be great experience but they would be exhausted by that point and don't have the goaltending (or maybe even coaching) to make it an interesting series ... IMO!

The team has been very cautious not to mention playoffs as the expectation, and this game is an indicator of why that's the case. It's impressive how far they've come this year, but it's hard to sustain a major winning streak late in the season when so many teams are in the hunt. Case in point, their next 10 games are about as hard as you could imagine, with the next 4 on the road vs. SEA, VAN, CGY, and EDM, followed by a barrage of COL, TOR, PIT, BOS, TBL, and NJD. If they're still within striking distance after that meat-grinder, then they'll have a chance. But it will be an important learning experience for them regardless of outcome.

One thing I did like hearing from DJ Smith was an acknowledgement that they simply weren't ready to play this game, and that it's his job to make sure they are (i.e. showing accountability). Also liked the comments from both Tkachuk and Chabot about talking to Sogaard and making sure he knew it wasn't his fault. It's not to say that Sogaard couldn't have been better on some of those goals, but there was just no structure to their game and far too many odd-man rushes against. When they play a crappy game like that you just need to find a way to learn from it, turn the page, and move on.

Good job with the blog. FYI, they also set it up so that the Guest Writer pieces are going to be linked to the actual OTT section (i.e. so you can find them somewhere other than the Guest Writer section).
