Gord! Happy friday

Great point --- I think the Rangers are adjusting to the trades still, but killing off that 5 minute major is a really great point; and that adversity point as well. This is exactly what grows the team. My concern originally was the team wouldn't have enough support and that adding another top pick would be great, but getting a Jakob Chychrun, is like drafting a Top 5-7 pick easily. The drafting and development done by another team too.

Talbot's play should also not go under the radar and I think the same with the goggles!

Of course I want to see the Sens make the playoffs but coming together as a team, playing with structure, growing their game, fitting in with players -- these are the kind of things I'm really watching for. I think we are seeing Stutzle and Tkachuk leading the forward group by taking their games' to the next level. Those big goals and sticking with it against one of the best teams in the league; in MSG. Like you said, coming home after this crazy week, it's important to stay focused and play 1 game at a time.

I'm curious to see if Brannstrom comes back in. I really hope so OR if there's a trade that happens today.

- AlfieisKing

Agreed on Branstrom. I was surprised he was the odd man out. As well as Holden played last year, this year he seems just a step behind. Granted he is more experienced that Branstrom, I think Branstrom’s speed can be more useful as long as he has a good partner.

Who knows, maybe a trade is in the works for a forward.

Great win last night.

I think that the Rangers only having 5 D dressed eventually affected them.

Anyone else take a deep breath in when JC stayed down after that hit behind the net? Would be the Sens luck to pull off a great trade only to have him get hurt in the first game.

I think the Sens are done dealing. The could only really make improvements on the 4th line in replacing Gambrell or finding someone who is better at hockey just as tough as Watson. Bonino would have been my choice but he just got sent to the Pens.

And you don't want to mess with chemistry, which this team seems to have a lot of....

I like big players and Greenway is huge. He has good speed. Having an off season. Needs a change of scenery. He is available and would be a spectacular fit with Kestelec and Gauthier.

Just read that Tom Wilson is available. He has another year left on his cap hit of $5.5m. He would be an amazing fit into the Sens line up.

Talbot looked good last night.

Chychrun will stabalize the D, but it shows how timely goaltending is needed. In far too many games, one of those would have been a goal, and this might have been a very different game.

Great to see a comeback win like that on the road vs. a legitimate playoff-quality team. It really felt like a game that could have been lost early with that match-penalty to Watson, but they hung in there and by the 3rd period were really outskating the Rangers. They gave up too many late chances than I'd like to see, but good teams will always make a late push. Of course they weren't facing Shesterkin, but then again Shesterkin hasn't been the Vezina-quality goaltender he was last year.

It was also really great to see Derrick Brassard play so well in his 1,000th game, and earn the first star. He's quietly been on a tear with 8Pts/9GP since the all-star break, and getting that kind of secondary scoring from the bottom-6 is a critical factor in these kinds of close games. In fact, their recent 4-game winning streak is largely a product of his play, as Brassard has 3G-3A in that span which is second only to Giroux and his sublime 3G-7A production. In short, the veterans are leading the way, and proving how much they want to compete this year.

Hopefully Dorion pulls the trigger on a move to improve the bottom-6, especially at C. Gambrell/Kastelic just isn't reliable enough, particularly if they're going to continue to intentionally leave Greig in the AHL. Some interesting available options would include Derek Grant (ANA), Travis Boyd (ARI), Nic Dowd (WSH), and Isac Lundestrom (ANA).

Don’t think the caps would ever deal Wilson unless something ridiculous comes their way.

That’s something they could do in the off-season because every playoff team would be in on him

Not sure the Capitals would get as much in the off-season with just 1yr remaining on his contract vs. a team getting 2 playoff runs out of him at minimum by trading for him now. Part of me finds this mildly concerning, as Wilson was specifically mentioned as the kind of rationale they had for the Boucher draft selection. You have to wonder what Dorion might be willing to put on the table to bring the actual Tom Wilson onto the roster... like maybe Norris/Brannstrom? Given the projected cap complications of trying to re-sign DeBrincat/Pinto in the off-season, it would potentially tie up a number of loose ends... especially if they feel that Greig will be NHL-viable as a #2C/#3C as early as next season.

My ideal scenario is for Ottawa and Buffalo to make it in 7th and 8th.

Looking the upcoming schedule:
Columbus
Chicago
Seattle
Canucks
Calgary

Lots of "should" win games for a team wanting to seriously make the playoffs. It gets a lot harder after that, so should hope for a solid record out of those

TSN is reporting OTT picked up Patrick Brown from PHI for a 6th-2023.
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/pl...ick-brown?player_id=64665

6'1/210lbs, 30yo, $0.75M AAV - pretty decent, versatile depth forward. Can chip in on the PK, plays ~11:30min/GP, has 125 hits in 43GP, has a >53% faceoff win%, with just under 300 faceoffs taken this year. Definitely helps bolster the 3rd/4th-line C situation, so I'd say it's a pretty good deal... especially for just a 6th round pick.

They were clearly one Brown short of a complete roster, after having traded away all of Logan, Josh, and Connor in the past year. The 3rd/4th line forwards are now looking like a very even mix of CAN/USA players:

Brassard, Derrick (CAN)
Gauthier, Julien (CAN)
Joseph, Mathieu (CAN)
Kelly, Parker (CAN)

Brown, Patrick (USA)
Gambrell, Dylan (USA)
Kastelic, Mark (USA)
Watson, Austin (USA)

I was thinking that Gambrell has been really good over the last dozen game. Made some really nice plays and has been good on the penalty kill.

With a playoff spot starting to look more realistic (still a way to go), the greed in me wishes that Dorion could have snagged Max Domi for a 2024 2nd rounder but might be better to use that bargaining chip next year. Domi could have really solidified the 3rd line centre role but highly unlikely he would be able to resign here but you never know. I felt like Dallas got very good value.

Not really sure if Patrick Brown will be an upgrade on what the Sens already have but more depth can’t hurt.

Dorion had a great deadline snagging Chychrun. Not many trade deadlines do teams solidify a roster spot for 2.5 years and for an affordable cost.

Brown's certainly not a game-changer, but if you compare him with Gambrell he's got more than 3x the hits, and looks like a pretty substantial upgrade in terms of faceoff effectiveness. Gambrell skates very well and I think is maybe under-appreciated in terms of his defensive contribution, but if nothing else this trade adds depth and versatility in the bottom-6.

Don't mind the late pick up of Brown. Better than Gambrell. But wonder why Bonino wasn't an option for the same price?
