So do we flip Bones, or Gralund for JT Miller? 🤣🤣🤣

Crosby and two 1sts. Don't think those chants didn't upset Hexy. Payback's a b!tch.

Dreger says we made a hard run at JT Miller but we didn’t have the center Vancouver wanted in return.

I'm cool with bringing Bonino back in the fold but poop, we paid more for him that St Louis paid for Vrana with 1/2 retained for the next 2 years.

What’s up w/ vrana that you would not only give him away, but also retain salary? There’s a lot of weird deals this year.

I can't imagine that we go into the playoffs without addressing what is to me the biggest hole in our lineup, a playoff goalie. Our starter Jarry so far in his career:

GP: 8
W: 2
L: 6

GAA: 3.0
SV%: .891

And those stats were from series where the Pens were easily playing good enough in front of him to win the series. I just don't know how we go into the playoffs without having a legit plan B. DeSmith is not it and this is why I have said I would rather tank than go into the playoffs without a 1b goalie because we are just setting up for yet another 1st round out. [/img]

Wtf Yzerman.
- Feds91Stammer

As we talked about before... what did you expect to get for a guy every team had already passed up on waivers?

While I'd prefer a better back up for sure, more so because of durability concerns, that was Jarry's one and only playoffs series. Its not like there's a long history of him being terrible in them. Its a 6 game sample size and since then he's had very long periods of looking like a stud. Also, and I could be wrong here, I think he wasnt long back form injury when those playoffs started.

He's also won championships at other levels.

At this point, the Pens have 0 cap space so any deals happening will have to be dollar in, dollar out. I don't see any obvious players on our team we could move to get better at this point. Unless there is something massive in the works I think we are all done after the Bonino deal.

I’m actually pretty impressed that Hextall managed to make this team older and slower at the deadline. That was really hard to do and by god he did it.

I saw a post about the alarming trend of his performance after the All Star break in recent years. That there is enough to make me want a stronger backup.

Honestly I think the only chance this team has to make noise is if one of our goalies channels 03 JS Giguere.

Yeah, I hope I am wrong on this one. You point out my other concern though, he has had one year with a full starters workload and he was injured for the playoffs. For the Pens to even get into the playoffs, they are likely going to have to ride him like a true #1. Can he handle that workload and still be good to go for the playoffs?

Thats why I want a 1b, a guy we can feed a whole bunch of starts leading into the playoffs so Jarry can be fresh. It is the same thing as we had with Murray. He was a stud in the playoffs because Fleury took a huge volume of starts down the stretch. As soon as he was the #1 guy and had to take a high number of starts he poop the bed.

As hard as we have been on Hextall the past few days. It seems he was definitely trying to make the big trade. From multiple reports he has been non-stop on the phone trying to make deals.

I see from multiple Vancouver sites that the fans aren't happy with their GM following the report of them turning down the multiple high picks from the Pens for JT Miller. The fans are all-in on a rebuild due to seeing the retool fail for multiple years now. They want better draft picks and salary moved out. They are confused on how you deal Horvat and show that you are going to rebuild, then you turn around and not trade JT Miller to help bomb and give you 8 million in cap space for free agency.

He was also injured in that series, he came back to start the playoffs but wasn't ready. However we do need another goalie because of the injury history.

He had the same M.O. in Wilkes Barre sadly. At the time I chalked it up that he just wasnt acclimated to the grueling length of a professional schedule yet. Obviously things havent changed, and this is what he is.

It's almost as if their front office didn't know they could flip picks for roster players

That's what it was, I new there was an injury around those playoffs. Hard for players and goalies to get back to game speed sometimes and its even harder when its all amped up a bit in playoffs.

If he stays healthy, I believe so, yes. He hasn't had anywhere close to a long being overused grueling season this season. Lots of time off.

Yeah, and there is a reason there are so few true #1's anymore... its hard to keep up with the pace over a full season. The right move for the Pens this offseason will be re-signing him to a modest length contract for under $5M per season and signing someone like Varlomov who can eat a ton of starts and be a guy who could step up in the playoffs and win a few series.
