I just keep going back to the fact that the Penguins had a clear choice. Either take a step back, admit you arent a good enough team this year, sell off some assets, and then use your new capital to rebuild this roster with a smarter and better hockey mind than Ron Hextall.

It would be a tough pill for a lot of people to swallow, including Crosby/Malkin/Letang, but they arent stupid. They know this team sucks. You could've sold them on the idea that this retool will be quick and will put us in a better spot.

I honestly wonder how much of it is us chasing a playoff appearance just to keep the streak going? If so, both the Steelers and Penguins are determined to be average for no reason other than ego.

They don’t make $$ unless they are in the playoffs. Even then you need a 2nd round to really be profitable. That’s most likely the target to deem successful.

Just seems like there are other options than granlund.

One of the funniest things about all of this is that the penguins managed to get:
-older
-less cap flexible in the future
-no better on the ice.

Punt Ron Hextall into the sun.

Yeah I’m sure you have a better pulse on the team than all the regulars here.

Hasn’t he played wing more than center in his career as well?
- Feds91Stammer

Lol if true he did this to support carter at 3c.

So Granlund as 3c and Carter as 4c? This is idiotic. I’d rather have Blueger than Granlund

The Penguins spent the entire season being so cap-strapped they couldn't play their best prospects. As of Wednesday, they'll be unable to fill out a 23-player roster because they're still cap-strapped — all to add a bottom-six center who is 31, and has brutal metrics.

Like the fact that we didn’t need to replace Blueger with an outside C and that Granlund was acquired to play in the top 9 which is really really bad.

Remember when Zucker at 5.5M was an albatross? Should have just saved a 2nd and re-signed him if this is what they were going to do.

Lost in all of this is how much Grinder is gonna (frank)ing hate Granlund but will be contractually obligated to defend him just to fulfill his duty as the contrarian of the board.

I'm going to get depressed if I try to figure out how little space the Pens have next off-season to address their holes in G, top 6 LW, and third line wings.

Unless something drastic changes, that's our big ticket add for next season as well. CF has us with 19.4 in cap space and only 14 players signed. Averages out to less than 2.2 million per spot. Even with a couple ELC's added, after signing Jarry we're still fvcked.

I know I am speaking for the majority, but unless it was someone like Miller coming back who is a PPG player or someone younger. It made no sense to get anyone who cost more than 3 million in cap space for our bottom 6

Tbh I would have rathered us not making the trade and just letting our prospects play on the bottom 6...guess that can't happen now
