They would retain enough to make it happen on OEL. It would likely be OEL for Pettersson and McGinn as the deal, cap is pretty close there. By no means do I want a deal like that to happen but I do think that he is a guy like Matheson who could do well playing in our system.
It better not happen and if it does it better include a 1st coming back our way. - MacPatty
Is OEL still good?

Well I think Granlund is better than Kap or Blue but it's just not what we needed at that cap hit. If there was retention I think we would be able to swallow this better. |

Pens now have just about 1.7 mill in cap space.... So why couldn't they call up Nylander or Pruus? - MattStrat
That's what I said. Why not? I don't want Hex making any more moves that has long term consequences. |

Schenn got a 3rd in 2024, I can’t see dumo bringing back a bag of pucks unless it was part of cap clearing for someone else. |

Pens, Sens, Panthers, Sabres and Wings all in action today, all within 5 points of the final wildcard. Pretty big night just prior to the deadline. I think the Wings are just going to go with the flow and sell regardless.
The Sens already grabbed Chuchryn, I think given that they are up for sale they are going to want to push hard to get in this year.
The Panthers have been uncharacteristically quiet. They have a good team that has played like poop. They are a big threat to go on a tear, especially if they make some positive tweaks at the deadline.
I don't think the Sabres are going to go all in, and they will likely fade but they are still there and who knows. Everyone thought Kevyn Adams was a dippoop but it's looking like he has things going in the right direction there.
The worst case scenario for the Pens is to just squeak into the playoffs and get listlessly dumped again in the first round. I'd rather just miss the playoffs and have a lottery shot at a top 5 pick. I just don't know what moves we can make right now that will have us competing with the Rangers, Lightning or Leafs in the playoffs. They have all done a massively better job of positioning themselves for a run. |

No, he is definitely not. I could see him have a comeback in the Pens system and getting back to being a top 4 D man but I don't know why we would take that risk and try to find out.
I can't even think of a scenario where a deal for him makes any sense.

I actually think Granlund is a good pickup. I just didn't like the deal as it handcuffs us for other moves. In my head, Nashville should have had to take McGinn back but I actually wonder if Hextall even wants to trade him. If the Pens can get through the trade deadline with McGinn buried, can't they just bring him up into the lineup in the playoffs?
At this point, the ideal scenario is picking up someone for the top 6 to push Rust down to the 3rd line. Granlund-Carter-Rust could actually be a serviceable line.

I said that a week ago as all these teams starting adding really good players. They needed to face facts and focus on next year. Maybe get a little younger and try one last run. A team with 11 starters 30+ and a few others that are really close isn't getting through the Eastern Conference buzz saw this year.
This ownership group is involved with other leagues. They should know you can't compete with a ton of old players. |

How much worse can Hextall make things in the next 30 hours? It will likely be his last opportunity to do so. |

Granlund is Kapanen's replacement. He'll get the second PP and play on the third line. Sullivan likes his crusty vets, I expect him to get some time with Malkin.
For better or worse Hextall can't be finished.
Personally, I've been waiting for three years to see what Blueger can do with decent wings, maybe he gets the Thrill. |

There’s probably a lot more here than in the actual dressing room. I don’t think the players fancy themselves as GM’s as much as the hockey Twitter crowd does. - Grinder47
I agree with you. They're professional athletes and they have much different attitudes and thought processes than most, or all, of us.
I just meant from a cosmic karma in the universe kinda way the Pens are getting spanked. |

26 points in 61 games Phil Kessel? Maybe they gel and do something...maybe they form one of the softest lines in the league.
