Only for one season. Why not moar? Kupari/Turcotte/Byfield/Bjornfot/Kaliyev all decent young players they could move. - AdamFrench
I heard that Preds wanted Clarke and that is why LA pivoted to Cbus.

Pasta has been underpaid for a couple years. He's making up for it now. Matthews is adequately paid. No reason for him to almost double his salary on the next one.
Also I thought people said he wouldn't get 10?

That was the theme across the backend last night...
Riles is a much bigger issue than Holl when taking into acct monies and effort along with playing time.
How Leafers can have 10 D men and not 1 can run the PP with a hard, accurate shot is a mystery that defies belief. - dozerD10
Schenn isn’t a potential Rielly replacement. He’s a potential Holl replacement.
I already said the whole team other than the 4th line was crap. You can’t keep turning the puck over in the neutral zone and then just blame the D when McD and Leon are able to enter with speed and space. If the top two lines can’t generate sustained pressure in the O zone, things will and did get ugly.
Schenn is a useful add as a 6 or 7 guy in the rotation and moving Holl as part of a package to upgrade the 2nd or 3rd line is cool with me. |

Thats a pretty good deal for him. Matthews is better then Pastrnak though. - Archaic
Also pastrnak probably gave em a one million hometown discount
No chance of that in Toronto |

As bad?
The guy has 60 points in 54 games and leads all forwards in xGF% because of his 200 foot game. They've swapped Marner/Nylander and they are both notably below Bunting in the xGF stat because Bunting is the only one who's gotten to play with AM all year.
His shooting percentage has dropped this year to a career low 12.7%, and we've all seen him miss the net far more often than previous years on excellent scoring opportunities - but while something seems off with his shot, there's nothing wrong with the way he's playing.

Oh. I think Matthews can get 13+. But more importantly, how does this affect Nylander? 10+? - Leaffrog
maybe one day an elite player can take a small discount to stay with the Leafs...instead of the Spezzas and Gio's
Leafs paid more and shorter term than pasta...ufa

Pastrnak is a lot better then Nylander. Much closer to Larkin/Forsberg Terrirtory, but well see.

Can we like draft day Boston here and trade their own pick back to them for like 7 picks?

I'd take Willy over both Pasta and Larkin...
and Forsberg.. like Peter ... That guy is a all time player... no offense to the 3 guys mentioned but they aren't even in the same league as Forsberg.

Yes, compared to the player he is and relative to his skill. Id say he is having a disspointing year. I think most people would say that. He is tied for 18th in goals, thats bad for him.
He also hasnt looked very dangerous, not like previous years.

I tend to agree. If Luke Schenn was playing yesterday - the way the rest of the team failed to support each other - he'd have just been one more body they'd have walked past on their way to scoring. The inclusion of some new guys wasn't their problem - the fact that none of them wanted to play was.
Most of the time I do think our defense is better without Rielly. The D just steps up and plays the system and aren't caught in odd man rushes against as often - as such they can step up, close gaps, and seal zone entries in the neutral zone better. The way Rielly takes chances, we give up either odd man rushes, or pursuit rushes where we aren't in position to aggressively close on the puck carrier in good position.
That's not all on Rielly, obviously - but there's something about his presence that seems to make those unnecessary or poorly thought out rushes happen more often across all the lines. Maybe if you include some anchor guys - McCabe, Schenn - it provides a bit more stability, but that still leaves too many odd-man rushes coming back when you get caught. I'd rather only see those rushes happen when we're trailing.
Last night's game wasn't that, obviously - they weren't in position because they weren't moving their feet.

You would take Nylander over Pastrnak? Id have to imagine you would be in a small minority on that, and thats not a slight on Nylander.
Filip Forsbeg is in another league then Nylander????

Yeah Nylander is having a career year. I am unsure if he replicates it. I'd take Pasta over him. I don't know enough about Forsberg to say one way or another.
I just checked his stats and I'd take Nylander over Forsberg too.

The crazy thing is it took till mar 2 to sign his extension. I never really heard anything on his contract or that he was a pending ufa. If Matthews doesn’t sign July 1st the media is going to blow its load let alone wait until Mar 2 of next year. |
