I don't even know if he was actually sure by the trade deadline, or even right up until July 1st. I buy that part. I was never even mad that he left, in and of itself, and totally understood the reasons why he did. All that stuff was fine in my book.

What was horsepoop was the "please don't trade me" act. Had that not happened, they moved him for a haul, and the outcome was still the same...I don't think I would have had a particularly large amount of animosity toward him. And (frank) Garth Snow for acquiescing to his selfish request.

Maybe the worst part of Snow's stupidity was giving that 6-year extension to Bailey in a pathetic attempt to appeal to Tavares's sense of loyalty. Still one more season after this one.....

This is what happens when you take a back up goalie who’s good at fantasy hockey, and make him GM (first time ever), you get a first overall pick walk for nothing (first time ever). Fantasy hockey is void of negotiating player contracts with agents. Inexperience allowed Snowjob to let emotion dictate. The “I earned the right to test the market” should have garnered the response, “you have until the all star break to decide, otherwise the organization must protect itself, as we’ve earned that right”.

Why would the Isles not move Varlamov? This is a no brainer to me. I love him and the fact that he publicly says he wants to stay but cmon. We could get a good pick for him and save a boatload of money.

Pierre Engvall will wear No. 18 with #Isles, rather than initially listed No. 47.

I'm reasonably sure that I posted this before. Regardless, think about it. Bailey was supposed to be Tavares's best friend on the team. Snow was having trouble getting Tavares to commit to the team and wanted to make it more tempting for him to re-sign. Bailey was a UFA and it's fair to say there wasn't much danger of him attracting significant attention from other teams. But Snow signed him mid-season to a $30 million extension over 6 years, well above his value to the Isles or any other team. I can't remember where I read this, but there is plenty of circumstantial evidence to support this theory that Snow thought Tavares would not abandon his best friend.

It could be one of a thousand scenarios. But, you don’t let it get to that point for the exact reason of losing said asset for zero in return. It’s just too bad he didn’t take his best friend with him.

I wish he made it a non-negotiable part of his signing with the leafs.

I think I read many years ago that Bailey was Tavares's best friend on the Isles. It kind of makes sense. Bailey and Tavares played together on the Islanders since Tavares's first season. Two Canadian guys from the Toronto suburbs.

Not that it means anything - but we also heard the same thing about Moulson, PA and Okopso.

It doesn't really matter if it's true. What matters to the story is Snow's perception that they were best friends. That's the only reasonable explanation for Bailey landing a $30 million contract.

Islander ownership gets most of the blame. They needed to step in and tell Garth to move him by the deadline. Sometimes ownership needs to be involved and it's not meddling.

The Lightning have been killing us. Losing to the Pens 4-3 now. Vasilevskiy has been total trash lately

Florida lost in regulation to Nashville, so that helps the cause a little. The Rags are about to lose to Ottawa in regulation, despite loading up with offensive talent.

The Pens won in OT, passing us in the standings. Seattle beat Detroit, however, in OT. This season is coming down to the wire.
