What makes him better than Matheson?
- Feds91Stammer

He’s an elite passer and better defensively.

The more I think about it the more I want Miller...even with my Avs loving buddies sending me this crap in a group chat haha

- MattStrat

After 3-4 years, that contract really doesnt matter. When everyone retires and we rebuild, we will need bloated contracts like that to hit the cap floor.

If you can get Vancouver to almost give you Miller for nothing, that is the kind of move the Penguins have to make given their limited assets to trade to begin with.

Buying low on Miller is actually smart though so does that really fit Hextall's capabilities?

hes not a ginger for starters /s

in all seriousness I view Chych as a better scoring d man, but probably not quite as good of a skater, I'd like to think they are about even defensively...hard to say though. he and math probably have about the same injury proneness as well.

Penguins should trade Crosby for JvR. It frees up some cap for this year and opens up a contract slot next year.

Gotcha those are just what came up on my googling. So he is a marginally better Matheson with an inability to stay healthy.

And with a much better contract.

Idk I like Chychrun’s strengths more than Matheson’s. They’re equivalent skaters/puck carriers but Chychrun’s passing ability makes him much more well rounded/multifaceted to n exit/entry capabilities and Chychrun has found his success in a far less sheltered first pairing role. Remember we had to shelter Matheson heavily here. If Chychrun were deployed similarly he’d probably look elite.

That is fair. Now how do you feel if Chychrun means losing Pettersson?

So reports out of Vancouver yesterday are stating they had a "sizable deal in the works" which they hoped to complete by Friday, and they are only waiting until the team they are trading w/ finish their "cap management/space brokering" which definitely sounds like Pittsburgh.

Changes the skill set of our top 4 dramatically but only a slight upgrade in aggregate ability. It doesn’t move the needle and should be avoided. The scenario where I’m fine with the exchange is if Pettersson is a non negotiable requirement to land Miller, in which case we’re obviously way better off with Miller and Chychrun than we are with Pettersson

Okay makes a lot more sense now. At first it seemed to me like you were one of the Chychrun is a legit 1D folk. I think he is an offensively gifted 2nd pair guy. His injury troubles make him untouchable for me though.

No I think he’s a solid 1st pairing guy who’s been doing an ok job being deployed out of his depth as a 1D on a really bad team. I think given his skill set, ability, and contract he is the platonic form of the mythical Letang insurance we’ve been chasing for ages. That said, I am WAY more concerned about our forward group so I think gassing all of our assets on Letang will insurance when our d core as a whole won’t even get that much better and not addressing forwards would be a huge mistake. But if we can truly get Miller for pennies on the dollar then I am very open to buying Chychrun with our remaining assets.

Hahah if only!! I am with you on the Miller and Chychrun statement. I think if we need to ship someone off like POJ or Petterson, but it means the overall team improves then it's the correct move to make. I may sound like Grinder a bit here, but outside of Malkin, Crosby, Rakell, Letang and Guentzel I really wouldn't mind if anyone else was moved if at the end of the deadline it made us better today and the next few seasons.

Getting miller and Chychrun without losing pettersen or zucker would be a huge win.

Do we have the cap space to do that though? Getting mcginn and Blueger off the roster enough?

12.6 mill cap space needed for Chychrun and Miller....where is it coming from? I think Petts would definitely be gone if we get those two.

I just feel we're going to end up getting players no one really has discussed, like other years hahaha

Dumo should probably be added in that equation of cap space at least from my assumption.
