I would say stand pat and let this season play out however it going to play out. I don't trust Hextall to fix poop and I certainly don't trust him to fix the team through free agency in the summer. Let FSG fire his ass and hopefully get someone in here that is actually good at evaluation and roster construction. I can see us losing the next 3 of 4 games.

My hope is that Miller’s value is so bad due to his upcoming contract that we can somehow pull off sending a main package to Arizona for Chychrun and still have enough juice to get Miller. If we can do that while keeping Petterson and Zucker I think this team will get the spark it needs. Realistically still need another winger but at this point we’re out of cap and assets if we can even make the above work to begin with.

I know a lot of rumors had it that teams weren't going to make a deal because of his contract and his attitude. This would be the dream scenario. From additional rumors/reports Hex was looking for a Winger w/ Chyrchrun so maybe a cheaper bottom six player may be obtained. I agree with you on keeping Petterson and take it a step further with even keeping POJ.

If the Pens get Chyrch, one of those guys are gone....

It would be like the summer all over again imo. Rearranging the D core without actually improving it.

In the previous 6 seasons Church averages 56.16 games played. Most he's played in a season is 68 games...his rookie season in 2016/2017.

That other winger SHOULD be DOC. He has been playing with another gear lately, and a 3rd line of DOC-Carter-Rust or Zucker-Carter-DOC could be an effective third line.

Petry has like 10 assists in 16 games since returning....BUT...its only the last two games he started to look as good as he did before the injury and long layoff...to my eyes, anyway.

hahaha yeah Im not too hot on snagging him...espcecially when we'll probaby lose a quality LD to do so, maybe even one thats very cheap and cost controlled for years.

Best course of action imo was to leave the D alone.

Matheson, Pettersson, POJ, Dumo on the left

Letang, Marino, Ruh, Friedman on the right

9m in cap for Petry and Rutta vs 9.275m for Matheson and Marino doesn't justify the downgrade

If we end up getting Chychrun the Petry trade looks really bad in hindsight. I understand the logic behind the Petry trade even if I wouldn’t have personally done it but if you get Chychrun, Marino is just such a better fit in that top 4 than Petry is.

Chychrun has become overrated to the point that he’s now underrated. He’s very good. He’s much better than Matheson or Petry and would be a really good fit with Marino play style wise. With a reasonable contract to boot.

My hope in this working out is more in Smith than Petry. Agree though I'd rather have Marino. Don't like that we're locked in with 2 aging RHD for so long.

Realistically? Probably not, but I just don't see a way out of Carter as 3C unless you acquire someone specifically for 3C purposes and shift Carter to wing. Just gotta hope he retires this offseason lol

I think it'd be a better line than McGinn-Carter-Kap though.

But Sully is going to give him those defensive zone draws/assignments no matter what, so I'd rather load up the wings around him.

I'd rather try to get a PPG player like Miller and push guys down the lineup. Maybe we get lucky and Zucker wants to stay so he signs a team friendly deal, who knows.
