Is the cap going up next year? All these RSN's going bankrupt can't be a good sign. I'm assuming local revenues are added into the pool of money for which the cap number is derived.....don't know that for sure however.

This was in December:

Gary Bettman says #NHL is now projecting a $70m remaining escrow balance at the end of the season, which would result in the salary cap rising just $1 million this summer to $83.5 million.

Not willing to say now whether a negotiation with #NHLPA for larger increase is possible.

There was also mention of it going up significantly in 24-25, like 3-4m

The bigger issue is the escrow the players owe to the owners for being paid fully during Covid. That is holding back the cap from jumping up. The new TV deal will cause the cap to jump up like in the NBA back in 2014/2015, but the escrow needs fully paid back first.

I could be wrong but I dont think that's expected to be fully paid for another 2 years or so.

It’s kinda one of those situations where you have to ask who else are you gonna get? We’re not packing it in while Sid and Geno are still playing at this level so we need a 3C desperately. Miller is a swing for the fences as a guy that could completely outplay the price we paid to acquire him because he has talent and we bought low. Or he could be washed and we’re no worse off than we were before aka going nowhere until the big guns hang them up.

I’d rather make the move with a potential to give us a legitimate spark than rearrange the deck chairs with more low upside acquisitions.

Im with ya man, F it. Also...someone like JT can slide into 2C ...or even 1C...if one, or both, miss time.

7 years at 8 per for someone turning 30 is pretty bonkers though haha. He'd still be with the Pens for years after Sid and Geno....or they'd be eating half of his salary for a few years to ship him out before the 7 years are up.

my bro played with JT miller growing up here locally and my dad coached him. I believe he won the club championship last year at sewickley heights too, could be mistaken but I know he belongs there.

I think he could be the type of player we need, but hes had a pretty tough year in vancouver, a lot of which is because they signed him to this big deal which essentially guaranteed horvat, their Captain, would be gone.
