Any interest in Domi?
- dmarsden2988

Him and Bjugstad are at the top of my list for targets, plus a few other guys like Dowd/Trenin/Leivo/Sheary/ect. Someone like that. We'll see if Fitz can get anything else done.

Think it was clear that pasta was staying in Boston and fitz made sure we improved for now and future with Meier

I am sure he will make other moves even minor that will help either by the deadline or during the off-season

LeBrun reporting that the asking price for Max Domi could be a 2nd round pick thats 'down the road'. Seems cheap.

Seems pretty reasonable. We traded our second rounder for next year... but I'm sure we could work out something. Gotta trust Fitzy.

Would be a good get, especially if we can sign him for a good deal too

Of course it does - how does it not? A 26 year old winger in the East who also scores 40 goals/year just got 11.25/year. You think Timo is going to see that and settle for 8 mil?

When did he score 40 goals?

Everyone keeps calling this guy a ppg 40 goal player but I can’t find that in his stats.

Well first off, its a UFA vs RFA. So that in of itself makes it totally different. Secondly, Pasta has FAR outproduced Timo throughout his career, and its really not close. Timo's career high in goal pace is this season at 0.54(44 goal pace), Pasta has produced at a better clip in 4 of his last 5 seasons. Timos career high pace in points was last season at 0.99(81 point pace), Pasta has equaled or bettered that(vastly in some years) in 6 straight seasons. Its not even a comparable for Timo, outside of their age being the same. Timo will get somewhere between 8.5 and 9.5.

Okay - fair. However:

35g in 77games last year (.46 goals/game)
31g in 57 games this year (.55 goals/game)

So, in an 82 game season he is now averaging 40+/year. One caveat being he has to play in 82 games....

Yes, Pasta is historically a better goal scorer than Timo - no doubt. But keep in mind Pasta is playing on a team that scores 20-30% more goals per season than Timo's last team.

And yes, he is a RFA but if he doesn't like our QO he will be well within his rights to seek a deal elsewhere this summer, no? To say that the Pasta signing $$ has no impact on what players and their agents are looking at is naïve.

My main point was/is, its scary to think we gave up all these assets for a player who may only play 20-25 games with us.

His QO is set. There's no negotiating that. We either extend him to a long term deal, sign him to his 1 year QO, or trade him. He has no rights to just go talk to other teams for a deal, thats not how that works. Again. This Pasta deal has ZERO effect on the Meier contract. None. Teams/agents use production and comparables when negotiating deals, Pasta is NOT a comparable for Meier.

Guys, as excited as I am to have Meier on the team he is no Pastrnak. That guy is one of the best players in the game.

Got it. I thought if he rejects our QO he is free to speak with other teams. So, if that is the case, he will have to wait a full calendar year then when he transitions to an UFA?

Either way - I hope you are right in regards to Pasta $$ not driving up his "perceived" personal value.

That's not how that works. He can't "reject" the qualifying offer. It's a set number based on his current contract. If the team doesn't qualify a player then that player becomes a UFA and can sign anywhere(Samsonov this past offseason). That's on the team, not the player, and there's no chance the Devils do that. Obviously.

Pasta is in another world compared to Timo, let alone Bratt. 80pts in 60g lol.

Boston is endlessly deep. We got Meier yay, but we know our bottom 6 is a mess.. and Boston was already the best team but with Orlov, Bertuzzi and Hathaway they’re somehow even better.

Our 4th line had 5pts last night. They are elite in my book.
