Unfortunate goal against. Chabot and Zub didn't look great on the play at all.

Stutzte has really taken a leap in his game since the calendar turned to 2023. Superstar in the making. His chances are just not capitalizing.

Team looks ok so far but need to find some finish.

Powerplay goal by well placed Sanderson shot. Chabot penalty as a result of not moving his feet that leads to a goal against.

We might need to see a changing of the guard for the #1 d-man role sooner than folks thought.

Talbot should have stopped the 2nd goal and Hamonic needed to pressure the shooter more.

They are look alright at the moment. Will be interesting if the refs try to even up the penalties.

Before that 2nd period finish I would have said was much of the same: good chances no finish.

Hopefully they cna keep it up for the third and close it out.

Teams overall play and urgency is good. Hopefully it can stick around for the 3rd.

Wings look vulnerable in the neutral zone on the fly. 2 goals after outlet passes on the rush.

Another great neutral zone breakout on the rush. Slick pinch by Chabot. Won't give up the #1 D spot so easily.

Now, we need the second half.

Certainly one of their best games this season.

Giroux was awfully good.

Chabot looked like a thoroughbred.

Yep, gotta carry that into the next game. Funny having these two teams be back to back like this, but the timing looks good right now.

Most consistent 60 minutes all year and stars showed up. Why it took this long to happen is anyones guess but nice to see. Team didn't fold after minor dips. Kept pressing.

Big game tomorrow. Wings will be more ready. Never fun to lose a lopsided affair.

I thought that when those big boys like Kastelec, Watson, Gauthier started demolishing any guy wearing a Detroit jersey that moved for a minute or two in the second period really turned things around.

Ottawa looked the much better team. Lets see tomorrow.

Very unlikely they make the playoffs and I hope they don't overpay for some player to pretend they can jump all those teams to make the playoffs.

Great goal by Chabot.

Pretty impressive game, especially after being down 1-0 and 2-1. Good to see the scoring depth flex its muscle, with six different goal scorers including two from Chabot & Sanderson. Giroux was an absolute monster, with a 4pts night and going 15/19 in the face-off circle. It's really not clear how much more he could be doing to help elevate this team. Big props also to the checking line players, with Gauthier, Kastelic, and Watson combining for 18 hits.

It will be key for them to keep the momentum going, and grab another 2pts tomorrow night in the rematch with DET. As of right now they have more Pts/GP than FLA/WSH with 2-3 games in hand, and have the same number of wins as DET. They could effectively leap-frog all 3 teams with a single win, which would be huge in terms of reducing the number of teams they're trying to chase. It might also persuade Dorion to make an addition to the roster, instead of just moving out UFA players.

Remember the Carolina game last week and how the Canes dominated puck possession all 3 periods and on almost every shift. Well last night, Sens looked like the Canes.

When your 3rd and 4th line can step up and balance the load it makes for a huge difference for everyone. Love Sanderson's comment that this back to back with the Wings is the Sens playoff.

Don't care if they make the playoffs. Happy to see Sens remain relevant in the conversation.

Deadline dealings: I am okay with the Sens being buyers. But, this year is not the priority in terms of results. Bring in a RHD and give him the remaining 20 games in order to set up the top 4 for opening night next season.

I was hopeful, but lukewarm, on the signing of DeBrincat. I was cool on the signing of Giroux. Clearly the signing of Giroux turned out to be a grand slam home run. I remain lukewarm on DeBrincat.

If the right deal is on the table I am okay with moving DeBrincat at the deadline or this summer. If the Sens move DeBrincat, it is my hope that they are able to flip the acquired assets in order to get a deal for Pierre Luc DuBois who will almost certainly be traded this summer. I would like to see one more big body added to the top 6.

it was a great game.
but look at the standings people - REALLY look. Not with homer eyes but reality glasses.

SELL SELL SELL

If someone offers us anything for Talbot, Hamonic, Watson, Gambrell, Joseph or DeBrincat. Take it and run.

I agree for the main point, but I dont know if selling off spare parts for late round picks is really best. Stand pat would make the most sense.

Maybe Talbot depending what is offered.

Travis Hamonic --- 3rd round pick or don't move
Austin Watson ---- 4th round pick or don't move
Mathieu Joseph --- need a 3rd liner for next 2 years or don't move
Alex DeBrincat --- he's not going to be traded
Cam Talbot ----- Don't trade if Sens win today, otherwise possible

While I 100% agree with the reality that the playoffs are a long shot as the team has to play .700 to .800 hockey down the stretch, I am not sold our spare parts guys will net a whole lot so I am pretty indifferent if they are ‘sold’ or not. I could be wrong based on some of the trades we have seen such as the Jeannot trade.

The Debrincat situation will be interesting. He won’t be moved by Frida. I was very much a supporter in the first half of the season as he was contributing in other ways while being snake bitten goal scoring wise. While he is still contributing, he’s leaving me wanting more. Maybe it’s a confidence issue. I’d like to see him stay but the salary to do so, might not be justifiable. It will be interesting. If he can get a hot stretch going, he will win some folks back.

DeBrincat is not going to be traded because nobody wants him and Dorion knows that which is why he came out a while back saying DeBrincat wasn't going to be traded trying to make it seem like it's what he decided rather than every other GM in the league.

I'd hold onto Hamonic for a bit and play JBD on the third pairing.

If they can find a sucker to take Talbot or Joseph go for it.

I like Watson and wouldn't want to trade him but take a fourth if you can get it. Shoot for a third. A contender needing size and passion in their bottom six might do it.

Listening to the boys on TSN this morning and am happy to hear that "Summer of Pierre" crap is finally wearing off with the realization that this should have easily been a playoff team if not for the gross incompetence of Pierre "Proudest Day Of My Life" Dorion.

The Giroux signing was a home run but then you've got your 9 million dollar DeBrincat that you can't move, Gus for Talbot, Paul for Joseph, Brown for a 2024 second. As the TSN boys said "What could have been!"

Sign Giroux because he wanted to come here anyway but don't do any of that other stuff but get the RD you need and you're in like Flynn.

What is the bigger issue with this team right now, PD's incompetence or DJ Smith's?

I got to go with the coach. I think this might be a playoff team with a different coach at the start of the year - one that would prevent the poor start.

PD's problem is that when it he hits (Giroux, Batherson), he hits big, but then when he misses (Paul, Brannstrom), he misses bigs. Very little in between.

And as much as it hasn't panned out, I was on board with the Talbot and Debrincat trades. They made sense (solid vet goalie, former 40 goal scorer with term) and it was A direction at least, especially after 4 years of being handcuffed by Eugene.
