Also... Ekholm to Oilers per Friedman

Elliotte Friedman
@FriedgeHNIC
It's Ekholm and a sixth to EDM
To NASH it's Tyson Barrie, Reid Schaefer, a first this year and a fourth.

I have nothing to say about the big prospect the Oil sent us because I don’t know anything about him, Barrie is who he’s always been, a very good offensive defence-man with some holes in his defensive game. what can you guys share about Eckholm?

Also….what the Hell is 4% 😂

Ekholm is still a solid player. He is more of a defensive d-man which why you guys got him. He does have some a heavy shot and can contribute offensively as well. Surprisingly mobile for his size. I always liked him and he'll be missed.

Love the guy. Defensively responsible and a great teammate. Get's overlooked because he prioritizes actually playing D over offense. I have a feeling you'll like him, we loved him here. I might be forced to root for Edmonton to post season because of this move.

Ekholm will be missed, that's for certain. I wish him only the best - he deserves it. Solid at his job and such a good person to boot.

It's nice to see at least the team headed towards a tangible direction from these recent moves. We have a few more days remaining before March 3, so I am curious to see what else may occur. With the draft being in Nashville this summer, it adds just that much more fanfare to what may be in the pipeline. I'll be sure to present a deep dive after trussed deadline day has come and gone instead of posting constant updates here. There's a lot coming! And optimism appears to be back, to some degree, in Nashville!

Guess it depends if this is a full fledged rebuild or not, but I'm not getting the sense the organization is burning down the farm yet. Has more or a we'll do business with you if the price is right kind of thing. I would think Granlund and Sissons would be on the table for the right price. I also wouldn't be shocked if Barrie gets flipped at the deadline since his inclusion in that trade was more because Edmonton had to shed some cap to make room from Ekholm. Fabrro has been in the rumor mill all season long. Maybe if some of the more cash strapped contenders can't upgrade their D elsewhere, maybe a team or two might take a look at him.

From the PIT fans, this is complete robbery by Poile. What do you guys think?

Well, I still kind of like Granlund for whatever inexplicable reason (lingering hope I guess), but yeah based on what we've seen from him this season, the Penguin fans are spot on.

Huge salary clearance for the Preds on top of it being time for him to go elsewhere. Add in the '23 2nd rd pick and it's great for us. I imagine Pred fans are mostly ecstatic. Only time will tell how it works out for you guys. Won't be long.

He's a solid player, but I do not understand what Pitt is getting here and why they wanted the full cap hit, etc. I've always loved Granlund but I do not think this addition is the difference in a deep playoff run or not for the Penguins. It seems maybe like they got jittery with all the big guns making moves in the East and felt they needed to join the party. Maybe a new environment will open things up for him.

I've continued to research and still cannot understand the 4% salary retention on the Ekholm deal. Salary retention slots are valuable, especially in a rebuild. We have numerous guys on long-term, big money deals still so wasting this slot here is a bit odd. But what do I know?

Tyson Barrie has arrived. His equipment has not. Per Hynes, the plan is for Barrie to be in the #Preds lineup tonight assuming his gear makes it in time.

Rasmus Asplund from BUF for a 7th

Fabbro extended for [email protected]

Not a bad way to close out the trade bonanza and continue the team's nice record of 4-1 lately. Should honestly be 5-0 since the Penguins game was a late heartbreaker.

I'll be back this weekend with a complete breakdown of what has transpired this past week. I'm genuinely excited. Something I cannot say I have been for some time.

I’m a little surprised Fabbro got re-signed. He might still get moved this summer..

Appreciate the honest response. All reports indicate that is exactly the kind of player we need on our blue line , and I welcome the help. I hope Barrie and the Big kid work out well for y’all….👍

I expect he'll either do well and get extended by next trade deadline or he gets shipped off somewhere.

And at the time, us keeping 4% of Ekholm's salary basically doubled their cap space.

Seems like we may have the most Preds move ever with a full-on sale of assets and still make the players to get mediocre draft placement. Could you imagine? haha

It's been a blast watching the youth of this team play recently though. I genuinely enjoy watching the games currently. Can't say I was always able to say this recently.

I think he fits in nicely. Young and has a lot to offer. Can't say I know too much about him, but I am definitely intrigued in watching.
