Yikes

Who said the Jets are restricted to NTC players lol šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚.

Way more players donā€™t have them.

Seems like some kids have their parents phones lol

Your Chevy what trade do you make this week?

- jjonah

Players still possible -

D - Eklund, Karlsson (doubt he waves), Chychrun, Edmundson, Schenn, Gudas

F - Boeser, Crouse, Bjugstad, Schmaltz, Buchnevich (favorite of mine), Reinhart, Grandlund, Garland, Konecny, Domi, Laughton,

Most desirable here - Chychrun and Buchnevich, or Eklund, Schenn and Boeser/Granlund

But we'll soon see where the old ball bounces, or if it does! I'm thinking it still will!

Possibly Josh Anderson, Sean Monahan, Gavrikov, maybe even Chris Tanev if Flames throw in the towel this week. Klingberg, Shattenkirk, or one of my faves...Troy Terry,

Lolā€¦whoā€™s saying they canā€™t try to trade for players?

You jump from try to ā€œjust trade for themā€ .

Takes 2 to make a deal and the Jets are not in a market where itā€™s wise to give up multiple 1sts or picks 1-5, and a Dman for a Jeannot. Tampa can because they will always have players wanting to play there. Easier to replace assets.

Just my opinion but the next GM has the same disadvantages as Chevy.

Karlsson and EDM as an option may have something to do with playing with the best player in the world?!? Ottawa got lucky as Giroux wanted to come home. Other than that most CDN teams have 1 arm tied behind the back in these situations.

I think the Jets will make an effort to make a deal this week.

there is a great article on the Athletic today that looks back at every single deadline trade from 2018 and where all players, picks and prospects are now. Spoiler alert, 90% of the picks and players traded never amounted to anything. Lets look at a couple big trades we made. We traded Ladd for Logan Stanley and Marco Dano and we traded for Stastny and gave up Foley and a pick that turned into Rasmus Sandin, I think its fair to say, both teams who were selling the picks and prospects would take those deals all day.
Also, lets remember that statistically the percentage of players to play 100 games in the NHL after the first drops to below 30% and drops rapidly every round after. so even looking at the Jennot trade, people severely over value 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks. they are lottery tickets, that is all.

Good info. 1st round draft picks extremely important to small mkt teams like Winterpeg, thus need to retain if at all possible.

Ya know I keep wondering if Troy Terry might be available too. Favorite of mine as well and 25. Maybe a little old for Ducks rebuild?
Problem is I believe he is an RfA next season or the season after.

As someone else says here, maybe Sam Bennet?

not really though, look at the difference in talent between all the picks we've made that were top 15 compared to bottom 15 in the first round. How big of a difference to our team has Roslovic, Vessalainen, or Stanley made? Connor taken just after my 15 cut off at 17 would be the lone exception and that draft was clearly a top 3 draft over the last 10-15 years

That 30% number is interesting. The Jets are easily way below that.

For sure, retain those 1st rd picks! If nothing else, you trade them, and what interest is there at the draft for us fans?

Now having said that, I might consider trading our 2024 1st rd pick this year as I believe we can recoup that for one of Scheifele, PLD, or heaven forbid, Hellebuyck.

Hey Ross77, You seem to have the inside scoop on the relationship between Chipman and Chevy. Who does the drafting between them two?

Admittedly, I have not read the article, yet. However I guestimate The Roslovics and Stanleys will (have) achieved the 100 game threshold more so than the 2nd round picks and further down the rounds.

I guess the Braydon Points of the NHL picked in rnd #3 are the exception, perhaps a lottery win or good scouting, whichever you wish to believe. Jets have some late rounders playing like Appelton (#6) but seem not to be very gifted in point prod'n, not like the old lottery win examples of Enstrom or Buf taken in the then 8Th rnd, I believe.

if you just look at the 2nd round, no we are not. I said 100 games, Gus, Samberg, Petan, Comrie, Harkins all these 2nd rounders have or will play over 100 games and I didn't look at the last 3 drafts as its still to soon for those. so we will easily be above 30% for the 2nd round. We've actually only made 1- 2nd round pick that you can say wont ( Suter ) and I'd say Lundmark is a long shot at this point. After the 2nd round the % drops rapidly per round and that we are probably in line with the rest of league

the scouts handle the bulk of the drafting but Chipman has his hands in everything and makes the final decision on trades and contracts. if you dont like what this team has done, look at him, Chevy does what he is told

there will always be gems found in round 3 and after, always, but they amount to less than 10% of the total guys drafted in round 3 and after.

I have looked at the second round and so far only 2 Jets draft picks in the 2nd round have played over 100 games, or I should say have suited up for 100 games. Getting 5 minutes of ice time or less - can we really consider that a game? I am going on actuals not probable's.

The main question that should be asked have any of these picks moved the needle here in Winnipeg? I would say no.....

Chipman, most likely like the rest of us has 0 confidence in Chevy. It's surprising that Chevy would subject himself to be treated the way he is, unless he has some self-esteem issues where he feels that all he is worth. It's no wonder why all of his press briefings are non-sense.

More reason to #firechevy

It's his money, why shouldn't he have final say ? These are big decisions and a lot of money is involved. Do you really think other owners don't get involved in these type of decisions ?

I would think if I had a million or two invested (I can only wish) in any team, I would want an "ok" in every deal. Not going to let a deal go through that I think hurts the future of the team. It only makes sense.

I would bet that almost all owners (if not all) sign off on deals, at least major ones.

So last year it was "fire Maurice", now "fire Mark Chipman", or "fire Chevy". What about David Thomson? Are we keeping him? Or Rick Bowness?

I don't know about management but I think it will be "bye-bye" to PLD and Scheifele this summer. Hope we can re-sign Helle, but doubt it after the bronx cheers.

I agree Benny, Iā€™m just saying if you want to complain about this team, donā€™t put all your blame on a guy being told what to do (Chevy) blame the one actually calling the shots.

Chevy has drafted outside the first round 64 times. He hit on Hellebyuck in the 5th round. That was essentially a fluke, goalies are voodoo. I do agree that Hellebyuck is a superstar.

Based on percentages, Chevy has gotten a superstar outside the first round 0.15% of the time.

Tons of good goalies are drafted in later rounds, finding Helle in round 5 is no reason to think these later round picks need to be hung onto like their gold or for the Jets to hang their drafting record on.
