Chevy has got the best job in the world and after Poile retires will be the second longest serving GM in the league. Love all the banners that are hanging from the rafters during his reign….

I am not too sure what too say about Chipman’s balls…..

Who do you think has to fire Chevy??? Why would he fire the guy who takes the blame for all his mistakes and inaction?

So is the next GM going to get rid of our brutal taxes? Weather? Going to make the city more attractive to players wives (plays a big factor)

The next GM is going to get UFA’s to decide to sign here?

Next GM going to get Wpg off of all players NTC lists?

Who is the magic GM?

Agreed with this. Could Chevy be more proactive, maybe, just imagine all the calls the seem to gain traction only to come to a halt when it won’t work for the incoming player. Apparently Meiers management or sharks told the jets they wouldn’t even consider extending here. Nino is a better move considering this.

This is probably what Chevy’s agent is telling the Jets for 12 years of ineptitude. After 12 years of being in the same position one would think that Chevy would start to do things differently. I think all players want to win. A winning culture goes a long way.

Karlsson might end up in Edmonton and he had no problems playing in Ottawa. I fail to see how Edmonton and Ottawa have anymore advantages than Winnipeg and both those markets seem to have less problems attracting free agents.

Players have waived to come here before because they thought they were going to win. That is clearly not the case.

Further to this has anyone else noticed how many players left here with a bad taste:
Byfuglien
Enstrom
Ladd
Trouba
Laine

I am sure I am missing someone but this is getting pretty bad.

I was thinking if we were to blow the team up, I’d trade Helle and try to acquire Spencer Knight on a reclamation project (he’s only 21). I think maybe we put a little too much stock into Helle’s value from a replacement standpoint. For example I’d say the best goalie in the NHL this year was an unheralded free agency signing last year for 4x 5 mill - Linus Ullmark. If someone wants to pay up for him, that prevents us from signing him (Helle) for too much and too long.

This is all hearsay. I am sure if Chevy told him that he would be qualified at 10, he would have come running here. I have yet to hear of a player saying that would take significantly less money to play elsewhere as opposed to Winnipeg. Chevy has had this team near the cap for the past few seasons so essentially he handcuffed himself from attracting someone good.

I think 3 of those 5 aren’t on Chevy. Ladd priced himself out of Winnipeg (thank heavens), Trouba wanted to be in New York and we held him as long as we could (probably too long) and Enstrom was likely only mad at Maurice and not Chevy for being benched. It’s possible there are others that could be on Chevy, but I can’t think of any.

I’m sure almost all of us on this site base our thoughts on hearsay, but I trust in this situation this is why you’d bail. Just my opinion.

and who aside from Trouba has gone on to better things ?

Buff tried to pull a fast one with his medical condition.
Enstrom was pretty much at the end of his career.
Ladd, pretty much same as Enstrom.
Laine - injury prone, still poor defensively, and not yet the "generational goal scorer" that was predicted.
Copp and Roslovic both wanted bigger roles. They could not be accommodated.

You don't need magic just an internet connection.

Like did you know Jacob Chychrun is apparently available has 2 years left on his contract and has no trade protection.
Same goes for Brock Boeser. Nick Schmaltz and Ekholm have 3 years left.

You have got to stop worrying about who you can't get and see who you can.

So the deal is there to make and the ask is reasonable?

The returns have gotten steadier more silly as the days go by.

Wanting Chevy out fine I guess. Who is the replacement that makes Wpg a destination?

If the asks for Chycrun is 2 first rd picks as earlier reported….I would NOT make that deal.

Jets need young players who’s contracts they can control more than a LHD with 2 years left on a deal

Chevy clearly has not made Winnipeg a destination so he’s definitely out. Rumours were abound last summer that Barry Trotz wanted to eventually become Jets GM after coaching. That was obviously denied by Chevy, hence Trotz not becoming our coach. I would have given Trotz the job of being both GM and coach.

I would make this deal. This would easily make the Jets a top 10 organization meaning that they would be drafting after #20. We have witnessed Chevy’s drafting record after that number, yes?

It’s a lot for a Dman who plays 53 games a year and really has had 1 standout offensive season.

Good hard nosed D but out 1sts are worth more than teams that can sign or trade more easily.

I guess it depends on the direction the Jets are going. If they plan on giving 30 year old Scheifele and Hellebuyck extensions that might give them at most 4 years of contending but they will have to add established players not wait on the likes of Lambert McGoarty, Luscius and any other draft pick.

Alternatively if they blow up the roster then your worry about guys with ntc's and ufa's is probably moot because they are looking at a 5 plus year rebuild.

there are dozens of solid players under contract with term and no trade protection, is there some rule saying we cant trade for these guys that I'm not aware of?

again, this has nothing to do with Chevy, Chevy does not make these decisions, all major player transactions, all player contracts, all management moves are decided by Chipman. if you really want to blame someone, at least blame the right person. Chevy's Boss

Lol…who’s saying they can’t try to trade for players?

You jump from try to “just trade for them” .

Takes 2 to make a deal and the Jets are not in a market where it’s wise to give up multiple 1sts or picks 1-5, and a Dman for a Jeannot. Tampa can because they will always have players wanting to play there. Easier to replace assets.

Just my opinion but the next GM has the same disadvantages as Chevy.

Karlsson and EDM as an option may have something to do with playing with the best player in the world?!? Ottawa got lucky as Giroux wanted to come home. Other than that most CDN teams have 1 arm tied behind the back in these situations.

I think the Jets will make an effort to make a deal this week.

1000% This!

I can't believe literally a day or two after Chevy trades for a good player that doesn't have trade protection his defenders are still using the trade protection excuse.

There's WAY more players that don't have trade protection then ones who do.

Its not like there's some rule that Chevy can only trade for guys that have trade protection.

Everyone who's even a passive Jets fan is well aware that Chevy has a difficult job being based in the Peg but for the love of gawd this trade protection is his biggest barrier to building a winner narrative needs to die!

Who said the Jets are restricted to NTC players lol 😂😂😂.

Way more players don’t have them.

Seems like some kids have their parents phones lol

Your Chevy what trade do you make this week?

That Jeannot trade was really dumb but no one is suggesting Chevy should trade that many picks plus a young player for one guy.

And really they're not as successful at the draft as their fanboys think they are so if they can turn mid to later round picks into NHL players they should probably deal them.

The problem is that a lot of the better/best players do have NTC/NMC or a List of cities they can't get traded to. They have more leverage than the average player to get those put into their contracts. So good luck getting the Kanes and Karlsson of the NHL, instead Chevy is always trying to get that next tier down and then get them with some term so we can ice a competitive team and everyone doesn't leave all at once.

Trading for a UFA in the situation that the Jets are in at the end of next season is just going to make the problem worse. He needs term ! Ideally a guy with three to four years left.
