Exactly, what was the point of getting a 1st round pick, just to trade it away? If they manage to get more 1sts and 2nds then ok, maybe this deal isn't so bad
- DariusKnight

Point was getting Hronek by the looks of it lol

Lots of rumblings that Pittsburgh is now circling back to Garland/Boeser/Miller after losing out on Chychrun.

The highest potential value in the Horvat deal was the unprotected NYI pick in 24'. Vancouver has now wasted that
- manvanfan

They needed to wait until summer for this kind of move and see the status of that pick. If the pick ends up being top 15 this season or unprotected next season, then it's (frank)ing stupid.

I feel that at least one, but probably 2 of Boeser/Garland/Miller won’t be with us for saturdays game. I hope we get a 2nd and 1st but would take 2-2nds if need be.
- I-own_da-Northwest

I’ll be more middle of the road & expect us getting another 2nd & maybe other assets by the TDL.

I don't mind the player they obtained. He's a good 2nd pairing D. His results are MUCH better as a 2nd pair then when he had to play 1st pair. Van's D is all around terrible and he will be forced into 1st pair once again.

The value they paid was high, paid what could be a steep price. If they were paying 20th and 45th, I'd say fine. If the picks are 13th and 38th as they look right now. According to a recent pick value chart the difference in value between those two sets of numbers is pretty well Van added a high 2nd round pick worth of value.

It's going to take a lot more for this team to turn it around than Hronek. Beauvillier has come in and played great and team is no different, traded for Bear who was an upgrade, team no different.

I would have much rather seen what was available in the draft with the NYI pick then to give it away.

- manvanfan

It’s not the individuals coming in making the difference but the sum of all the parts working together. That’s also the coaching.

Canucks don’t want to tank next season. So these moves are all about the turnaround. Not sure they get there but then they will be selling Petey and QH.

Yes there’s a 90% chance that second flops and becomes a bust especially with Vancouver’s scouting. I’d rather have a proven NHL D man that’ll be in his prime when the rest of this team is ready to compete 3-5 years down the road.
You’d have to be retarded to hope that you’re going to get a gem D-man that’s developed into top 4, with the 20th overall.

In fact I challenge any fan here to name a pick taken 20-32th overall by the Canucks that became a stud D man by time they were 23 in the last 20 years.

No one knows how high this pick will be yet. Does your opinion change in it's top 15 or unprotected next season? They should have waited until summer to make this kind of move...

They are not trading Miller. They invested in him to win now and won't be leaving a massive hole down the middle... and the moves they are making continue to follow that direction. I'm sure they listened to some calls but teams are probably looking for Van to accommodate a dump deal seeing their unintentional tanks is screaming not ready to compete.

Boeser isnt going to bring in anything substantial. Probably lose another pick in any move involving him actually.

This 2nd round in the draft has lots of potential for Dmen. Going into the draft once again without a 2nd.

- boonerbuck

On face value I agree but…

Lacks creativity ignoring our LTIR cap space to use this TDL. Packaging Ferlands LTIR brings down the cap hit for eg Boeser. Taking on a 1-2 year cap dump also is a factor for any trade.

How much draft equity is Arizona gonna have in the next few years. They’re stockpiling the hell out of draft picks and prospects. The modern day version of the old Quebec Nordiques.

Only risk I see is the 2024 unprotected 1st. Personally it is a gamble but I’m ok with gambling. The NYI are not going to plummet imo. After all I am a trade junky 😂😂

Hronek is a great add and we need the Right hand shot desperately. But still, alot to give up. Have to think that Allvin will try to recoup this picks back with a few more deals.
- LordHumungous

Who could they trade that wont hurt the win now, and recoup 1st and 2nd round picks? I don't see it.... maybe a 3rd/4rth but

It does. Because if Heidt, Bensen or Yager was available at 15, we shoulda shot at a future guaranteed 2C or better.

If they took a flyer on a poopty token defenseman like pellika or Reinbacher, then I’m glad they moved out the pick.

Nobody knows how low it will be either. Yes could wait but do you honestly believe teams trade young RHD in the summer? That is rarer than rare c’mon.

You do realize the year we took Juolevi, Sergachev was considered that token D and look how he ended up.

Conditions on the Sens picks to AZ.

“Conditions: The ’23 1st-round pick is top-5 protected. If met, pick becomes ’24 1st-round unprotected. Additionally, should #Sens reach ’23 ECF, the 2nd-round pick becomes ’24 1st-round top 10-protected. If that condition is met, the pick becomes ’25 1st-round unprotected. 2/2”

A couple of weeks ago when I suggested that maybe they were not going to fall in the standings and had a chance at making the playoffs you aggressively jumped all over me.

Means squat without results.
Bruins had 3 consecutive 1sts & whiffed. Picks aside no UFA’s want to go to Arizona.

I could see Heidt there at 15 not the other 2. No matter what they would be 4-6yrs of making an impact if they developed. The 2nd round is where I think are many good players to mine. We need to recoup 2nds.

Wasn’t a token D in my books. He topped my list but I rather wanted McAvoy in a trade down cuz RHD.

On NYI falling I’m more undecided now. Other teams have many games in hand but those chasing NYI are not making any hay of late. Sabres are team I see as making any move. The Pens are looking old & desparate. Enter Boeser 👍
