So we agree it's a net positive move that improves the team.
Noted.
That still doesn't mean they're trying to 'win now' with the trade.

Unless they are willing to completely rebuild through the draft, which was never going to be the case with Pettersson & Hughes on the roster, these types of moves are expected. They said they were going to do this type of move, and they have.

They still have a most likely top 7 overall pick. For now….

Not about the OEL thing, but haven't you been saying they can't always sell/tank and they need to add good pieces every year etc etc? This is what you asked for

Want a decent 25-year-old RHD? That’s the price, or thereabouts. Rutherford himself said his timeline to turn this team around is 1-2 years. I don’t think it’s possible. But this is how Rutherford operates. This is why he was hired. This is how the Canucks operate.

If they draft Reinbacher and now have Hronek this improves, significantly, that backend.
- LeftCoaster

Yes or trade down to get him. He’s not top 6-8 imo.

Here we go down the old "2 things can be true at the same time" road.

• Filip Hronek is a good player having a very good year. RHD cost a lot and VAN doesn't have any good ones.

• VAN moving high picks for a 25-year-old is.. confusing.

Not unexpected, as I said, this is what they forecasted. With Pettersson and Hughes on the team they want to win in the next five years for those guys and still keep an eye on things long term. Which they will with their own first round pick, I don’t see them trading that.

Canadian teams making American teams stronger, American teams helping out American teams, it’s clear as day except TO but they are a big market, it’s all about the money we will never win the cup.

2 silver linings:

1) we still have our own top 10 pick (for now)
2) if this 1-2 year turnaround fails, we don't have long to wait before an actual rebuild

lol yes I have already stated many times including day of.. that I hated the trade.

Different trades though where OEL was declining for seasons before trade. And Chychrun isn't even on a bad team.

No, what we want is the team to actually stockpile picks and develop their own players and prospects and not trade for these 24-25-26 year old players.

Most Canuck fans are idiots…

Watching sports shows some say Hronek is a UFA in 2025. Nope

Cancelling tickets. Go right ahead & pout.

Always said in my 50+ years of being a Canuck fan our fanbase are whiney losers & as much of the problem as anything else. Sure jump on the bandwagon when good times. Sure luv being posers on cel phones then. Etc etc etc.

The media just keeps feeding them…

I don't mind the player they obtained. He's a good 2nd pairing D. His results are MUCH better as a 2nd pair then when he had to play 1st pair. Van's D is all around terrible and he will be forced into 1st pair once again.

The value they paid was high, paid what could be a steep price. If they were paying 20th and 45th, I'd say fine. If the picks are 13th and 38th as they look right now. According to a recent pick value chart the difference in value between those two sets of numbers is pretty well Van added a high 2nd round pick worth of value.

It's going to take a lot more for this team to turn it around than Hronek. Beauvillier has come in and played great and team is no different, traded for Bear who was an upgrade, team no different.

I would have much rather seen what was available in the draft with the NYI pick then to give it away.

It's fine if the team makes moves. Timing of the moves and price being paid, It's something the Canucks GM never seem to get bang on.

To on the way to the bottom, better trade away 1sts.

So just abandon the draft model winning teams use for depth, talent , and cap space out of fear?
This team is a mess and they are destroying the fanbase along with it.
Fans are now afraid of drafting, regardless of the GM of this team...

- carsonagenic

No I’m with you. I 100% would have preferred top 10 picks every year for the next 10 years and had Pettersson, Demko and Hughes leave via free agency.

A 25yr old RHD is only beginning his prime. What the fans want isn’t what Mgmt will do. Trading isn’t done. The days of JB wasting assets are gone.

Cody Severtson

2018-19: 20th overall for J.T. Miller after finishing 9th-last in the NHL

2020-21: 9th overall for OEL and Conor Garland after finishing 8th-last in the NHL

2022-23: ??? overall for Filip Hronek while on track to finish 6th-last in the NHL

just stop, man.

As Cody points out, the Canucks are a dog chasing its tail at this point. They keep spending draft capital and failing to make progress.

There better be more moves to come, as far as rebuilding that backend. If you’re gonna support Petey and Hughes, then do it, don’t piss around. Whether I/we like it or not, this is the direction they’re gonna take things.

Personally, I’d like to see a complete rebuild, but that would realistically mean trading both Pettersson and Hughes. They aren’t doin that.

The highest potential value in the Horvat deal was the unprotected NYI pick in 24'. Vancouver has now wasted that
