Seriously - we all have teams we hate and teams we love to hate. It's par for the course. But in terms of the tanking aspect - where do you think Vancouver is? I think they're on the wrong side of retooling, so a scorched Earth rebuild - keeping Petterson, Hughes and Demko, as the principal points, is in their best interest. If they keep Schenn or Myers or whomever to provide guidance, leadership, protection, etc. - that's all cool - but in reality, Vancouver is well into tank territory, I'd think.

I mean when Shanahan came along, the Leafs had been awful forever - and in particular since failing to prepare for the post-lockout capped world - and they had less than nothing to consider for a retool - so a full-on rebuild was the only solution - and yet it took them over a decade to figure it out.

For fair context, a friend of mine lives (now) on Gabriola Island, and when he still lived here I'd follow the Canucks with him - particularly back in the Naslund times - and always felt they were Cloutier-away from being a cup contender.

Realistically, the Canucks aren't there yet - but when you've put so many band-aids on that they start to fall off of other band-aids, you need to just start over.

Toronto, Calgary & Boston for me. Just hate those teams. It especially annoys me that the Leafs tanked and they’ve had a competitive team since. Their fans and media are one of the worst things in the sporting world.

Must have got manhandled by Tim Hunter. Only way I can see hating the Flames.

Him having to go back to Toronto would be so damn unfair to him

There would literally still be fans who still see him as a failed 5th overall

*shakes head*

Lol sadly this isn’t even incorrect

If they ignore the past he’d be a perfect fit. Depends on the offer.

That Dylan Cozens kid is really starting to come into his own, now has 23 goals, 52 points in 57 games.

There's like a decade of Leaf threads here. Do you think we can forget about the past? LOOK AT MY AVATAR!

There's a huge percentage of Leaf fans who think we need a couple of face punchers - because it was pretty f'n cool when we drafted Wendel Clark - thirty eight years ago!

This isn't a fan base that just ignores the past.

That said, you are right - in the correct role, Schenn is an effective player. Not dragging this bit out - but I do wonder if his lack of footspeed would work in Keefe's system which is more neutral-zone aggressive and tries to employ a full offensive zone cycle.

Even when awful forever we were forced the 4pm Leafs game slot on Saturday. The usual response is they are popular & make the CBC money. Problem is nobody would ever know since there never was an option. Even games in Van had to be at 4pm. At least now they are entertaining to watch.

Flames aren’t going anywhere even if they squeak in. Time to put some lazy vets out to pasture.

Agree foot speed is Schenn’s weakness. He has simplified his game & probably playing his best hockey in his career. The intangibles & grit he’d add would fill in very well.

Rather see Schenn go to Buffalo, or some other young team, trying to make a playoff experience.
Not interested in the Canucks doing anything to help out the Leafs.

This I get.

When I had to go to Vancouver or Calgary for work (I was back in my 20s), it was the best. Of course not for you guys - but I noticed the offices usually shifted their hours to be more east accommodating, so they tended to, on majority, start at 7am as opposed to 9 - so the workday was finished closer to 3pm - which was great for me because I could go watch a game, get drunk and be asleep by 9pm. Was it for the people living out west? I mean, no, but . . .

That said, we now have some business partners we work out west (or God - in India) and shifting our hours to their hours has given us a sense of comeuppance.

Sounding like Thatcher Demko open to moving on from the Canucks
Andy Strickland: Sounds like Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko would be open to a change of scenery as opposed to going through a rebuild with the Canucks.

He was three years left on his deal at a $5 million cap hit.

This was from Andy Strickland, earlier today.

What a difference a week makes! I think posters that think we need to ragdoll teams and get heavier should watch the flames and avs game last night. Starched. That dino hockey that Sutter loves is done.

But hey you stick with your icecapade style if that works for you. Me, I miss when men watched hockey.

Everyone loved Bruce, that was embarrassing the way the team handled that.

Tochett needs to keep playing the young guys. Management needs to move some more players out by summer. Long ways to go.

- VanHockeyGuy

Yeah I don’t like the way they handled it but I get what the attempt was… just reinventing the team from the ground up so to speak.

Do you like how the games are working out even tho the management was a tad sloppy this year?

Even I’m willing to say that won’t happen in Toronto… a lot of fans would, but there would be that over the top group that doesn’t lol

As much as I hate the Leaf's and the city, you're actually a pretty good guy.

I hope Kravstov works out, now is the time to get him in the lineup.

If VAN can move Boeser & Schenn I'd consider that a win. Calgary?

- VanHockeyGuy

Thats fair. We can hate Calgary together.

Actually, my 20 something cousin moved to Vancouver in October. (frank)ing hates it there lol. He says people are unfriendly. But he's kind of introverted and nerdy so not surprised he is struggling for friends. His office is 99% work from home and he goes to the office so no help there.
