Hold on….the blues actually claimed Kapanen and that contract??? Holy poop, can they send Carter and McGinn on waivers too?

Hextall saying prices are high, but Nino for a 2024 2nd seems like steal to me. If you want to “fix” the bottom six, a deal like that is where you start

I mean, that’s like 9 mil in cap space you open up if you drop those 3?

Im ok with the 4th line who it is. But 9mil for a new center and winger… sign me up.

I'd get rid of Blueger too. Archi and Poehling can be part of the 4th line

I think I would have had a little faith in Hex if he pulled off the Nino for a 2nd trade.

Warner Bros - the holding company that owns regional sports networks, including Pittsburgh has told the sports teams they cover they wish to end their partnership, effectively removing WB from sports. The complete fallout isnt quite known. No idea if the penguins/pirates could reach an agreement to take ownership of the channel in Pittsburgh. It probably wouldnt be as profitable as it used to be, but could still be done. It wont impact Penguins games for the rest of this year it appears.

Warner Bros. Discovery wants to exit regional TV sports: WSJ

Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. (WBD) wants to stop running the business that oversees three regional sports TV channels that air games for professional teams in Colorado and Utah, as well as Pittsburgh and Houston, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. The Journal said an executive from that business told the sports teams that bankruptcy was an option for the business, and that "the business will not have sufficient cash to pay the upcoming rights fees," and that Warner Bros. Discovery "will not fund our shortfalls." "Unless we can reach a deal to transfer ownership of the network (and the attendant rights)" by March 31, "our only realistic option is to file for chapter 7 liquidation," the letter said, according to the Journal. "We find ourselves running out of time and options." The Journal said the letter proposed that the channels, which operate under the AT&T SportsNet brand name, "transfer ownership of the networks and programming rights to the teams for no purchase price consideration beyond a release by the teams of any future claims against the networks." Shares of Warner Bros. Discovery finished 1.1% lower on Friday.

The way I read this is Bally Sports/Diamond Sports is trying to transfer everything over to the teams for nothing.

It will affect the Pirates a lot more than the Penguins. The Penguins are almost finished for the season, whether they make the playoffs or not.

I don't know who would want to get involved in the train wreck we call the Pirates.

He ruined the Flyers. However, unlike the Pens, he did his damage via the draft. Although his one big signing we are still trying to get out from under. But be careful what you wish for Pens fans. After Hextall we were gifted Chuckles Fletcher, who is everything Hextall is plus he firmly believes the way you win is to beat people up.

Honestly his deadline trading isn't terrible, he's only made two trades, which they were both good. He should not have signed Carter after the fact(or to as high a contract) because the Carter situation was all good until then. Rakell has been awesome no need to get into that. Now the off-season stuff is where it gets a bit tacky.

I thought Hextalls big issue with the Flyers was not adding at the deadline? And apparently him signing players is another issue. His big bright spot here is the Rakell trade and signing, that has been solid through and through.

Well I think that win locks us in as buyers rather than sellers.

I dont really get the rumors around Chuchryn... He is maybe a bit better than Matheson but the Pens need someone solid defensively for the top LD spot, not a left handed Letang light (including the injury history).

I'd gladly have him on the team but not at the two future firsts and a top prospect cost.

I like the idea of McCabe. I'd get Vejmelka as well. I'd see if the Preds would part ways with Jeannot too.

There is no deal big enough to make us contenders this year. So hoping Hextall can find a way to just retool and change the mix at the deadline.

Zucker should be worth way more to a team like Dallas than us. Can we retain 1/2 and get a 2nd and a prospect that we can use in another deal.

Holland is playing the long and short game with Edmonton. I'd flip him Jarry, McGinn and Dumo (1/2) for Campbell, Puljujarvi & a 1st this year.

We would have 2 1sts and a 2nd rounder to chase a good player with term. Problem with this plan is that it would take a really savvy GM to pull it off at the deadline and Hextall is the opposite of savvy.

I like McCabe too but I don't think he moves the needle enough to pay the steep trade deadline prices. The other two I haven't seen enough to have a strong opinion about.

It's also not that far fetched at all that the Pens 2nd rounder in 2024 would be a higher/better pick than the Jets'.

I really don't see how a 3rd line consisting of Nylander and Pruus could be worse... In fact I believe there is definitely potential for it be at least a bit better haha... That's not to mention the cap savings for adding a great player if possible... But... Carter has a NMC. He ain't going anywhere.

I think we're all pretty much having the same thoughts on this... Though I think there's some would like a full on fire sale and rebuild.

Well the moves I would make would be guys with term so it's more for the next couple years. But it also could help this year as well in terms of making the playoffs and losing in the first round 😅.

All these trades being made, yet Hextall is just sitting around waiting until no one is available on Friday for the deadline.

Edit: none of the prices seem unreasonably high for these players....

Dadonov is meh

They don’t have the cap for Nino

Barbashev was a massive overpay by VGK

Not sure where any of those were a fit for Hextall. I get poopting on him for not making deals but they still have to make sense.

Plus Barbashev isn't really going to help Vegas, they needed a Stone replacement (Kane) or it's not worth it.

Diamond Sports is different from the situation impacting AT&T Pittsburgh. AT&T Pittsburgh is owned by Warner Bros. Diamond Sports is apart of Sinclair Broadcasting. Both own similar assets of regional sports networks, and both appear to be going through challenging times. However, Diamond Sports doesnt impact Pittsburgh. The situation with WB does.
